So I've watched Red Tails recently and tomorrow I'm going to an airshow and ww2 flight museum. So I know I will need a flight sim to play soon.

What would you recommend to fulfill my urge to kill Nazis from the sky.

- Steam or GOG?
- I do not have a flight stick. I have a Xbox wireless control for my Pc.
- I've heard good thing about IL-2 Sturmovik, but will I have to take a class to play that one?

What do you think?

Secrets Weapons over normandy or Blazing angels... as far as wwII goes, there decent far as I recall.

If you dont mind a good sci-fi story to go along with your flying, pickup the Wing Commander series and Freespace2 from GoG, Money well spent!!

Battlestations midway and IL-2 Sturmovik. Sturmovik is probably the best world war 2 flight simulator ever made.

BatteStations is one my favorite series.

First IL-2 is probably the best ww2 combat flight sim ever made.
Though it can sometimes be a bit difficult, and I'm not sure how will it play without a stick.
Graphics are also rather dated right now. Except for the planes, everything looks like minecraft.

Wings of Prey/Birds of Prey is not bad. Considerably better looking and sounding (helps immersion, imo), somewhat simplified controls (still wouldn't call it 'arcade', though).

I did not play Cliffs of Dover, so no recommendation here.
Midway is also good.

If you do decide to play IL-2 It has a VERY steep learning curve. In Microsoft Flight I can throw planes around the sky like nobodies business I put planes into spins for fun. In IL-2 I have to work very hard to stop the Hurricane from going into a spin. I haven't got a kill yet.

I fly with a basic stick though, not sure how well it would work with an xbox controller.

This isn't a WW2 flight sim but Descent: Freespace is one helluva space combat sim. It's sequel is generally more well beloved but I just LOVE the first game. They're both on GOG and cheap cheap cheap!!

Yep. What he said. While you're at it, might as well get the SCP mod which gives it a nice up-to-date look and maybe a load of campaign mods such as Blue Planet. It seems they made some changes to their website though which makes it hard to find some good mods. :/

This also isn't a WW2 game, but I highly recommend Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. It's a fast paced flight-simulator/shooter with a really neat mode where you can go into an up-close dogfight with another fighter jet. It is intense, fun, and has a neat metal soundtrack.
