Not sure if this is the right place, the advice forum seems a little too serious for this? I'm looking for some games to play together with my boyfriend :D. We both like playing videogames but he doesn't seem to like playing games with me. :( He really like strategy games and honestly I am just terrible at them. Whenever we play together I end up way behind on almost everything and screwing up the game >_<. We both like playing fps, but he prefers games like Call of Duty but I just find that boring. Any suggestions? :3

Well, you could play Monaco. It's a pseudo-strategy game (very basic graphics, however) for up to four players. You can specialise in roles and everything. What do you two think of Team Fortress? It's an FPS (which you both like), but it's very quirky and light-hearted, which can be the antithesis of your experience with CoD. There's also League of Legends and other DotA clones, which are sort-of strategy games, but you can choose a support hero (read up some online guides) and feel awesome that you're contributing to the team without having to carry them to victory.

There's also that awesome simulator for a spaceship that I completely forgot (which is great for a LAN party or to have friends over). There's also Portal 2's co-op system, but I think the multiplayer maps can get a bit boring once you've figured the puzzles out.

I'm all out of ideas for now, but I'm sure others will chip in in no time.

Find a good MMO.

All MMOs have elements of strategy to them, both in character development and the ins and outs of combat (particularly in group encounters). But not so much that you'll feel confused or overwhelmed. If that's too big a time investment, try a pseudo RPG with team elements, like Borderlands or Diablo/Torchlight.

If he STILL won't play with you, find a new boyfriend.

If he likes strategy and you like FPS you both could play something tactical that requires team work. Counter Strike Global Offensive, Rainbow Six, Operation Flashpoint, Natural Selection, Killing Floor, DayZ/WarZ, Planetside or one of these other new MMOFPSes.

Introduce him to serious sam. Seriously, it makes call of duty look like watching paint dry. You'll have an awesome time.

Here's an old-school suggestion: Tyrian. 2D vertical-scrolling shooter for MS-DOS with two-player local co-op support. Put one player on the keyboard and one on the mouse. I used to play it a lot with my sister when I was in school.

Do whatever game you find fun.

If your bf don't like it, tough shit. You have the tits, you have the power.

Any guy who gets mad at his gf while playing a game needs to fix his shit.

What console, specifically? If PC, do you both have sufficient systems?

Portal 2, Minecraft, Left 4 Dead 2, Half-Life 2: Synergy, and Borderlands 1 and 2 are some favorites of mine, but most if not all of them are exclusive, or at least run better on PC.

Sorry to ignore the original point of this thread, but what is this game? I must know! And is it on PC?

Not sure if it still has active servers but you could try Savage 2.

One player plays as the commander and plays an online RTS, building a base and managing workers as well as buffing fighters.
The other players play as the fighters and play an online FPS, killing enemies, conquering their bases etc. They can get buffed by the commander and depending on the research he's done you can get different weapons or play as different units.

So you can enjoy a cool FPS that isn't CoD and he can enjoy a cool RTS with some unique twists added in.

I couldn't remember the name of it, but some google fu fixed that quite nicely.

It's called Artemis [http://www.artemis.eochu.com/] and it lets you and your friends take on the roles of different officers aboard a spaceship (with one of you being the captain). I've always wanted to give it a shot, but I lack the necessary numbers. I heard it's awesome, though.

Thank you! My inner nerd just gave a squeal of joy.

To the OP: I believe you can't go wrong with Minecraft. I play that with my GF all the time and we have a great time.

Before we make suggestions, what consoles do you have?

My girlfriend (along with pretty much every other girl I know) loves Heroes of Might and Magic 3. If your boyfriend likes strategy, and you're willing to check it out, I can recommend that. It's widely considered one of the best turn-based strategy games ever, and is incredibly easy to get into.

Otherwise, on the FPS-front, you have stuff like Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Quake Live or Tribes: Ascend, where all of them (except L4D?) are free, allowing you to easily check them out. My personal favorite here is Tribes, though.
Oh, and do yourself a favor and play through the Portal 2 co-op together. That thing is hilarious.

I would second MMOs. Games in which the majority of people solo, with challenge tuned for this playstyle, are much more enjoyable as a duo. You have someone with you upon whom you can depend, to heal or tank for you, etc. You'll get through stuff faster, depend on each other, level together and get to develop your characters to each complement the other. If I could enjoy every MMO this way, I'd enjoy them a lot more. I'd recommend Conan/Secret World from Funcom as F2P games with some substance to them. A tank/healer duo is particularly great as you're entirely self-sufficient and doing any dungeon-type content (4-5 players) is incredibly easy as you'll never have to wait to get a team together.

Saints Row 3 is a brilliant game and in co-op, it really shines. Going through that game with a friend is a fantastic experience, especially if one or both of you give in and embrace the zany nature of the game. It adds an unpredictable element to the mix as they do things spontaneously you didn't expect or plan, often to hilarious consequences.

Splinter Cell: Conviction has a fun co-op mode. You each play one of Kestrel and Archer, there is a story of some sort involving Russians, split into four campaigns each of about 3-4 maps. You'd think a stealth game wouldn't lend itself to multiplayer with a partner, but it works surprisingly well. The two of you systematically disable lights and guards, resuscitate and rescue each other, disappear into shadows when one of you inadvertently alerts the guards (it will happen) and make clever use of both your gadgets and mark/executes.

Other multiplayer games worth mentioning: Borderlands, Left4Dead2, Resident Evil 5.
Other multiplayer games I've not tried with a friend (but would like to): Hunted: Demon's Forge, First Templar, Dead Island, Fable III.
