Yeah, I'll just say the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett.

I wrote a novel if you want to read it.

My favorite series ever is "The Last Vampire" by Christopher Pike.

It's been re-released as "Thirst No. 1 & 2". Go get them. ^_^

Anthem by Ayn Rand it's short (105 pages) but Fucking excellent.

When you are engulfed in flames by David Sedaris. The most fun I've ever had reading.

A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess. It's disturbing as hell.

or Do androids dream of electric sheep by Philip K. Dick. Best sci-fi writer ever.

The Count of Monte Cristo

It'll take you a fair bit of the summer to read, too.

Edit: I hesitate to use the word epic because I am not really a giant douche IRL, but this is truly an epic.

well just because you are somewhat interested in religious books then try the bible, that will keep you busy all summer :p

I'll just list them out.

? Temeraire Trilogy (Dragons galore)
? Bartimaeus Trilogy (Even though it's commonly found in the children's section, I find it very enjoyable)
? Eragon/Eldest/Brisinger
? Ender's Game
? The Hunger Games (like Battle Royale)
? Battle Royale

If you are in the mood for sci-fi, try John Scalzi's Old Man's War series. If you're in the mood for something based a bit more in fantasy but still modern, try Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files series. I heartily enjoy both.

Someone mentioned Revelation Space! 'Tis my favorite series.

In addition, try House of Leaves (just noticed it was already mentioned =D)and John Dies At The End. JDatE is funny, dark, and well written. Oh man, still one of my favorites.

As far as classics go, The Age of Innocence surprised me. Interesting, thoughtful, and a heartrendingly compelling ending. Candide and Canterbury Tales are both good too, with humor that translates well even now.

My other options have been listed already; Ender's Game, anything Douglas Adams, etc.

Happy reading!

Right now I'm reading The Gunslinger by Stephen King. So far, it is simply amazing, and I'm not even halfway done. Neil Gaiman is also excellent, as well as Dean Koontz.

Crime and Punishment if you're up for some philosophy/psychology. 1984 or Lord of the Flies if you're up for some human nature/control. Watchmen for a good story, plus assent to godhood. Robinson Crusoe for a good read.

Books/works of literature I would suggest:
The Outsiders
Scott Pilgrim
The Catcher in the Rye
Any of the works of Edgar Allen Poe
I also hear Pride Prejudice and Zombies is good, World War Z as well.

Hope no one said this already but it's a fairly well known bit of fiction. the white tiger by Aravind Adiga is one of my more recent favs. Pair it with a case of exploding mangoes, a lot different, but an interesting book to read. the name of the author escapes me right now unfortunately.

I'll second Ender's Game, The Bartimeus Trilogy, The Count of Monte Cristo and The House of Leaves. And I think I'll add...

Egil's Saga, King Harald's Saga(Old historical books, vikings, very interesting.)
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and it's spiritual successor, Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. By Seth Grahame-Smith. Also, Practical Demon Keeping and Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal both by Christopher Moore. These are all comedy.

Prolly a few more, but I can't be arsed to remember them.
