greetings this is ma 1st post on the forums.
i have tried search and no found a topic like this

a few friends and I are former/current WoW players, and we are trying to find a new MMO to try, my friends want a skill baesed MMO (which i say dont exist due to RNG).
But what we are after most is an MMO with good fun and (most importanly) balenced pvp system

dose anybody have any recomendtions for us.
thx in advaced
Do NOT go with Champions Online. I was in Open beta, and the PvP so far has been insanely unbalanced. You either min/max or get owned.

?I think you?re always going to have a 'flavor of the month,' but it?s always replaced by the flavor of the next month. I think that?s natural and healthy. We post various power sets on our forums, and every power set we post, there?s a few replies saying that ?I need to change my mind and use this power set because this is the most awesome power set we have.? The next one comes out and ?No, this is the most awesome power set.? We see that in-game too; it?s very gratifying.? - James Laird

This was on http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/72725/page/4

The guy in charge of PvP, James Laird, apparently believes FOTM builds are "Natural and Healthy". That tells you prety much everything you need to know.

Guild Wars has by far the best PvP system I've seen in a MMO, but I haven't played WAR, and I heard Warhammer has very good PvP.

WoW will never have balanced PvP because they try to balance classes around PvE -and- PvP, which simply doesn't work, especially when it comes to bursty damage and crowd control.

GW's PvP system has a few notable changes - first off, you can actually spectate matches, record demos of these matches, watch them later, etc, etc. Something WoW should have had for Arena. Secondly, instead of talent specs changing the way a class is played, you can only take 6 abilities into combat at once, so in a PvP match, you can only choose 6 - so you need to balance offensive, defensive, and support skills, so it's not like you could have a warlock who can skillcoil, chaos bolt/incinerate you for 18k, and then STILL be able to use his demonic circle teleport, and have a spell-locking pet, and still have powerful DoTs.

You'd have to balance between there instead, so no class is really overpowered, per se, but instead the game relies more on teamwork.

Also, if you don't want to PvE, you don't have to, you can roll a character at level 20 that can do nothing but PvP, and it will do nothing but PvP.

WAR on the other hand, from a friend of mine who plays, I know the game actually has COLLISION DETECTION, so melee can actually form a wall to block enemy players from getting to ranged, high-ground has obvious advantages, choke points are actually helpful instead of classes running through you, etc...And it has much less control abilities - less stuns, less incapacitates, etc. So you won't have an arena match where a druid can chain-cyclone you several times and then you can be chain-polymorphed as well, and if you trinket one, their partner gets back to CC you within the few seconds you had to move freely. It's more like you're actually able to use your abilities instead of other characters taking them away from you.

Now, neither system is perfect, or if you're looking for a competitive edge, "good," but compared to WoW, they're much better for that kind of PvP.

There is a game that people used to love because its community was remarkable. And it was based, unlike most MMOs, greatly on Skills rather than just level and gear. It is called Ryzom [http://www.ryzom.com/en/], and after much problems to keep it alive it has finally made a come back. The game itself is now free for download, and the monthly fees are similar to that of other games (around $12.00 USD).
Take a look, since they also have a 14 day free game period where you can try and see if it is for you.

Other options, if not really recommendations since I have tried them only briefly, are:

Age of Conan [http://www.ageofconan.com/]. Its focus is on the user's fighting skills. There is a free trial for 7 days.

Mac [http://www.warhammeronline.com/] version. A traditional approach to MMOs, so its not based on skills. There is a 10-day free trial.

The Lord of the Rings [http://www.lotro.com/]. The game mechanics are similar to most MMOs. The game download is only $9.99 now a days, and the monthly subscription only $9.99 USD too. They have a 10-days free trial to check it out.

Dungeon Runners [http://www.dungeonrunners.com/]. Free MMO by NCSoft (creators of Aion, Guild Wars and Lineage) with a comical style and a Diabloesque feel. A bit buggy, but FREE!

City of Heroes [http://us.ncsoft.com/en/]. By NCSoft. Never played it, but people talk about it enthusiastically. There is a 14 days free trial too.

All of this said be careful on what you choose, since the life of any MMO not named WoW is an uncertain event, and many die a sudden death. So check out the status of the game and how successful it is at present time.

Guild wars & Runescape.

MAYBE maplestory but can give your computer viruses sometimes.
Because you said Runescape, I have to point and laugh >.> Gods, how OLD is that game?

Aion is a new upcoming MMO, and the open beta will be starting soon so you can try it out before purchasing. I hear the pvp is just so freaking amazing [you use wings when you fight, how could it not be amazing!!]. The classes are very interesting and different, and leveling is pretty quick [You can get to level 20 in about 2 days if you stick it out, which is when your allowed to pvp I believe.]

Yeah i would have to agree with the whole aion thing. I gotta say though Perfect World International has been kinda fun. Its a bit a wow clone though.
Unless they changed Perfect World recently, I wouldn't go about playing it. The first few levels are increadably annoying IMHO. The land is so large, and the wings they give you to make movement easier just make it worse; as they are slower than a granny in a walker with 2 broken legs.
Perfect World does have several free MMO's though, but are very grind intensive and I could never stick it out long enough to get to the actual PVP [if they games had any?]. Their latest one I couldn't even understand the first quest and ended up quitting before I got any EXP!!

Why the hate for runescape? It is a good game, people just hate it because they are graphicsfags people who only care about graphics. if you got deep into it, it's immersive. sure, the combat isn't amazing, but it teaches you to level up till you can "pwn" some more.

I hear Guild Wars is the next best thing.

But don't forget, 'Otherworld' and the Star Wars one are bothing coming soonish, so there's lots to look forward to.
Guild Wars is definitely skill oriented. Limited skill slots and no real overpowered gear selection means the real difference in players is the skill difference.

Idk i really don't like paying for a game that i get to keep for a year just to have it taken back so i have to pay the fee's again. But if your into free MMO's i wasn't really into games until Anarchy Online, and Fiesta took the graphics to a whole new step, albeit the characters looked kinda cheesy, on the kid side anyways. Bought items also don;t give much of an advantage unless your into upgrading things and need a little boost to prevent item breakage upon enchanting.

WoW is still the king of MMO's and an upcoming expansion, (altho I myself quit WoW 2 months ago). EVE online is rather intresting if you manage to get in to it. And ofcourse SW: Old Republic, something I've been waiting for since KoTOR 2. But well most MMO's have trial periods so try them (that goes for those with a monthly fee ofc). And for those without monthly payment, try to find someone that are willing to let you try their copy of the game.
And finally I'd like to add that IMO, the MMO's with a monthly fee tend to be better then those that are free to play, this is just my opinion however, I don't want anyone saying that I'm wrong. Everyone has an own opinion.
