Hello, I'm trying to find some new anime to watch! Now let me tell you what I like, and what I'm looking for. Please please understand I'm not looking for any kind of debate or argument, I honestly just want to watch some more anime. I will only watch english dubs, and I really enjoy things where there is a certain lack of what I understand are called "face faults". However I really like Rurouni Kenshin, and Yu Yu Hakusho. However Blue Gender, and Ghost in the Shell are also basically my favorites. Others include Gundam Wing, Gyver (both shows), Cowboy Bebop (obviously), Ronin Warriors, Robotech, and Vampire Hunter D. Also Akira is awesome.

Gurren Lagann had a good English dub and if you like mecha stuff you should like Gurren Lagann. Mirai Nikki is one of those psychological thrillers that only anime can pull off and that had a good dub but it's a fact that although the chick who voiced Yuno in the dub was good, it was NEVER going to hold a candle next to her Japanese dub. Seriously, that's probably the best voice acting ever done full stop.

Well maybe Tomoki from Watamote comes close.

Also I know Elfen Lied gets a load of hype but dear god, do NOT watch the English dub.

Did Panty & Stocking get an English dub? I think I heard there was. I don't think they could make a bad dub out of PSG it just has that "I don't give a fuck" vibe about it, same with Highschool of the Dead (but you won't like that if you dislike excessive fanservice)

Seriously though, the first scene in HOTD is the main character screaming "WHAT THE FUCK'S GOING OOOONNNNNNNNN?!" You can base how much you'll like the dub on that first scene alone.

O thanks, um I don't mean to sound like I'm disparaging Gurran Lagann, but I'm looking for something less err cartoonish, I don't know what other word to use, I'm terribly sorry, I know that sounds like a negative word, but even something like yu yu hakusho just is more um, "realistic", even if it can be somewhat whaky at times.

From what you've said I'll throw recommendations for:
Outlaw Star
Irresponsible Captain Tylor
Mermaid Forest
Ranma 1/2
Slayers
Hyper Police
Magic Knight Rayearth

and while technically not 'anime', gotta recommend you give Avatar: The Last Airbender (the TV series, not the movie) a try.

Thanks, I forgot to mention some anime I have seen and I like, Outlaw Star, Bubblegum Crisis, Witch Hunter Robin, although I only really like the style of WHR, not the dialog

Since you will only watch with English dubs, I recommend Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Baccano! and Code Geass, as they all have really high quality dubs, and they are definitely in my top 5 anime I've ever seen.

There are some others I strongly recommend, like Shiki, Elfen Lied and Steins;Gate, but the quality of their dubs is a bit iffy, I urge you to watch them with the original Japanese audio, which is fantastic. That said, they are still worth watching even with the dubs so give them a shot.

Have to recommend Black Lagoon. It's about a group of modern pirates in the South Asia sea. Great action, great writing and the English dub is fantastic. My only warning would be that the series gets very dark at times, one story arc in particular, but if you don't mind that it's definitely worth the watch.

If you liked Gundan Wing then try Gundam 00. It's pretty similar but it looks better, and the plot and characters are much more interesting.

Black Lagoon has a great English dub:
Although their depiction of the Irish (2:50-3:20) is a bit... actually it's about right really.

Also Code Geass, Death Note and Monster are all very good, though I watched them subbed so I can't attest to the dubbing quality.

Ahh lemme check out my collection real quick-y doo...

Okay, here are some suggestions. And like you, I pretty much only watch my stuff in English. These recommendations have an official seal of quality from me in terms of dubbing.

Gurren Lagann - Want explosions? Want giant robots beating this shit out of each other? WANT BOOBIES??? Then this is your show. No show does over-the-top cheese quite like Gurren Lagann, and the dub really pushes it to maximum levels of cheese without being shit.

FLCL - 6 Episode show that makes no sense whatsoever, but it's probably the best anime I've ever seen. Boy gets hit in the noggin with a bass guitar by an alien woman riding a vespa and then monsters and robots start coming popping out of the spot where she hit him. Makes sense, ya? Well no, it doesn't, but that's what makes it so fun to watch. It's short and has a of re-watch value. And it has one of very anime soundtracks I've ever heard with a very garage band-ish vibe to it. I'd venture to say the soundtrack is as memorable as Bebop's.

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt - Want a raunchy, dirty, and downright vulgar show? This is it. Panty & Stocking is a show that mocks/parodies american animation and even mimics animation styles that we use (South Park, Ren & Stimpy, classic Transformers). It was meant to be watched in english because all of the text and songs in the show are in English, and all of the cursing is just more real in the dub. The animation is great if you're an art snob like me that likes unique animation, but other than that, great show.

Baccano! - 1930s immortal gangsters set in New York during the prohibition. Every character is the main character and all of the stories intertwine at some point. This is the show that got me back into anime after a long hiatus. Even features authentic mafia accents. Be fore warned: It's a very violent show. It's brother, "Durarara!!" follows the same premise, but instead of being set in the 1930s, it takes place in modern-day Japan with gangs and other mystical creatures. Both are excellent.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - A classic for anime. You've probably already heard the story, but I'm gonna say it anyway! Two brothers are devastated by the loss of the mother, so they try to perform the ultimate taboo -human transmutation- to bring her back. Little did they know that it would backfire and tear their bodies a new one and leave them emotionally and physically scarred for the lives. They now seek out a way to get their original bodies back and unravel and giant, nation-wide conspiracy along the way. Just watch it.

Hope that helped! I have more suggestions if you'd like to hear 'em!

I'm gonna flick a vote towards Gurren Lagann.

Its one of those rare shows that straddles the line between serious and parody, and is an absolute riot. There's a markable point in the anime where it becomes fanatically focused on trying to one up its own ridiculousness. And it manages to do all this while still establishing its own unique style, featuring solid writing and strong characters and great development, and actually morphs into a neat little political story in the second arc. It is truly one of those rare anime that doesn't get nearly enough attention.

Also, in every "Recommend Anime" thread, I have to talk about my favorite anime ever conceived by man: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Its funny, sad, compelling, fantastically written, and is filled with piles upon piles of wonderful and memorable characters, it never loses focuses of where its heading and manages to wrap up with an actual satisfying ending (which is so hard for shounen anime to pull off).
Its also the only anime I must watch the English Dub for, since its one of the best examples (I consider it to even be the standard). Give it a go.

Tiger and Bunny is a really good anime in my opinion. I think it has a dub, not completely sure. If it does have a dub you should give it a look.
