I clicked on the link to this forum expecting to see some people who could relate to my taste in music and with an EXTENSIVE knowledge of all metal new and old, not so much the quote-unquote "poser" bands. I've heard a lot about these bands, I've listened to a lot of music by these bands (namely Job for a Cowboy, System of a Down, and All That Remains) Frankly, I think most of them sound like Slayer made a touchy-feely album featuring The Killers.

What about old Metallica? Why doesn't anyone listen to Slayer? And how about this HUGE death/thrash revival that brought forth bands like Skeletonwitch (Awesome Death/Black/Thrash. The sort of band every metalhead likes.) and Warbringer? (Pretty much a Slayer rip-off, but then again most new metal bands (NOT NU-METAL) all sound like Slayer, but these guys do it a lot better than anyone else).

And why not Power Metal? Dragonforce is having a ball not that everyone has "through the fire and the flames" on their ipod (myself included) what about bands like Firewind, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Primal Fear and Running Wild?

please tell me I'm not the only surviving fan of old-school, 80's punch-to-the-balls metal.

You know what? The only version of it on Youtube is the 5 minute version with 2 minutes of nothing, the shortened version being removed. So I'd rather not let people have to stumble through it again. But why the hell not?

God bless you.

Shadows Fall, I think Stillness is their best.

You're not the only one, as long as I'm still around.

Anyway, to actually contribute to the thread: Destruction's "Nailed to the Cross" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMVvpxUjTLg].

There will always be fans of old-school 80's metal. And if now... Then its all over (people with good musical tastes).

Dream Theater

Probably not as hard as you want, but they're completely amazing.
And Blind Guardian.
They're great too.

I recommend for heavy that still has musical quality Protest the Hero and Machine Head. Also bands like Black Tide, Five Finger Death Punch, Avenged Sevenfold, Mastodon, and Nine Inch Nails are great choices
