I see no mention of the Fallout Series... Might I suggest 1, or 2, or New Vegas (3 is okay, but it's just poorly written). And while I'm whoring myself for Black Isle/Obsidian, you should maybe give Planescape: Torment a try, it's very old school, and you'll want to give it an HD patch, but it's plot is absurdly interesting and involving, and you can get it for extremely cheap on GoodOldGames.com.

BTW: I'm playing Bloodlines right now, such a good game.

Fallout New Vegas is great, still a bit sand-boxy but also very strongly built around choice and consequences. Get Neverwinter Nights 2 just for the Mask of the Betrayer add on as that is seriously amazing. If you can cope with some design clunkiness and awkward D&D rulesets Baldur's Gate and Planescape Torment are classics for a reason, though they both need some mods to get the most out of them. Human Revolution is brilliant in its own way.

Why do people keep asking this question? The answer is always Planescape: Torment.

Also, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura is a GREAT RPG for choices and consequences. You even get different dialog depending on what kind of character you created.

Check out games from Black Isle/Trokia/Obsidian. Those guys actually value choices and consequences and different ways to complete quests/objectives in RPGs.

Planescape:Torment, Fallout 1/2 & NV, Alpha Protocol, Vampire:Bloodlines...
Lots of names to check ? thanks.

Risen.
Gothic II/III (post-patch) are also pretty darn good.

They're pseudo-sandbox - open-world, but everything is placed by hand. They represent a completely different flavor from either your standard Bioware-esque interactive novels or your Bethesda sandboxes.

Plus, there's Risen 2 - piratey goodness - coming out soon.
Gothic seems interesting: "The game places a special focus on the interactivity of the environment."

I thought the first post was pretty describing already. Diablo doesn't have the role-playing elements I'm looking for and I'm not interested of emulators.

Fallout mentioned on the starting post. Seems like Planescape: Torment is well liked.

I'd go back a few years too, and i'd reccomend neverwinter nights...

Check out gog.com, where you should be able to find some good old RPG's for not too much money... It will also reccomend titles based on others too!

Check out stalker: shadows of chernobyl. It's more sandbox than narrative, but it's closer to Fallout NV than it is to, say, borderlands.

If you're OK with going back a few years, Knights of the Old Republic is a classic. KOTOR 2 is also worth playing, though you've got to be willing to put up with its many flaws and bugs...
I think there is a WESP5 like patch for 2, however I never noticed any bugs on PC or Xbox versions. Maybe I'm just not picky or my memory is bad but I don't recall anything that was really gamebreaking.

Alpha Protocol

Despite all the flak it gets, it really does amazing work with choice/consequences.

Human Revolution and Alpha Protocol. Neither are perfect, but both are pretty good.

It does an extraordinary job at that. You can never tell what the consequences might be. It has an insane replay value because of that. Too bad PC version is so bugged.

And the ending is so horrible. I loved Alpha Protocol, but I'll never replay it because of the ending.

Welp, for starters get Nethack, if you want a simpler version of that get Doom the Rouge-Like. To the Moon is good, same with Corpse Party, but Corpse Party is not for the faint hearted.

I'd also suggest the Fallout games as a whole. Alpha Protocol for the choice system, since that was more fun then regular fighting in the game.

Deus Ex series. Just get this and you make me happy.

Price points are for:
Nethack and Doom the Rouge Like is free, so go have a ball.
To the Moon is 12$ on Desura.
Corpse Party currently has a free demo on the PC, the game itself can be bought on the PSP.
The Fallout Series ranges from 40$ or 10$ on steam.
Deus Ex is 10$ on Steam, while Human Revolution is 30$.
Alpha Protocol is 20$.

$ = US dollars.

Its not a great ending, but compared to the Me3 Ending, its not bad

Two Worlds?
I know this may sound ridiculous but I second this. I really enjoyed the first Two Worlds (I haven't played the sequel), I thought that the soundtrack by Harold Faltermeyer (whom also did the Top Gun soundtrack!) was great, too. Keep in mind that I played it on PC and thus I didn't have to face any of the text issues I found on the 360 release.
