OK, the title says it all. I want to play some good quality JRPG's (prefferably turn-based) on those platforms.
So far, I've played P4 Golden, FF VII and Chrono Trigger (I know, I know, 2 of those are from PSOne classics. Those count too) and I want more. Please recommend me some.

Also, is P3P worth getting even though I've played original on PS2?

P3P worth it just for female protagonist alone. It gives s bunch of new interactions, mainly with SEES who are all now social links, and completely different perspective. Also female protagonist is just better in terms of how you can express your character. The only con of P3P is lack of animated cutscenes.

Does Monster Hunter series count?
Play Monster Hunter Freedom, and then Freedom 2, and then Freedom Unite.
They aren't turn-based, but they're awesome.

If SRPGs count I recommend Jeanne D'Arc for the PSP.

I'm not a big JRPG guy and I loved that game.

P3P is much better than the PS2 version. The female protagonist has a better personality, the new music is great, and most importantly, you get your teammates as social links instead of random classmates.

Regrettably for this thread, P3P is the only PSP game I've played.

Valkyria Chronicles II is pretty good, especially in regards to the gameplay. The overall story, maybe not as good as VC I.

The only one I'm really aware of is Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, but it isn't turn based. However, if you're into Disney and FF things, it's a wonderful game with pretty tough combat. And you don't need to have played the previous games to understand this story, since its an entirely new cast (although some things might need explaining).

Other than that, I'm not familiar with PSP titles.

Atelier: Totori Plus.

One of the most bittersweet stories of this gen - bring a box of tissues late in the game.
But only if you can handle an RPG with a heavy emphasis on time management. I know that barrier is ovewhelming for some.
Don't let the cute graphics fool you - this game takes dedication.
But if you are a JRPG fan, you owe it to yourself to play this hidden gem.

Skip ahead to 2:10 if you want just the brief rundown of Totori. But I suggest you watch the whole video.
It's the prologue from Atelier: Meruru and is quite pretty.
Notice the music in Totori's section is more melancholy than it is for the other games.

Heh the unskippable series here actually made me interested in the series even though they make fun of it. The art style looks really pretty and the alchemy stuff intrigues me.

Yeah it is a good game, though I'm stuck on the retaking the Bastille thing and pretty much quit.

Need to get back on it someday.

The if you haven't played it, first Grandia game for ps1 is on psn. Its considered a classic, the story is charming, the English voice acting is not shit, and the gameplay is turn based but you also move in 3D

I certainly agree! Level 5 made this lovely SRPG very accessible, while still being fairly deep and challenging.

I'd recommend anything by Atlus as of late, such as Knights in the Nightmare or Gungnir. Again, they're easy to get into but still have their own depth without being too difficult

If you have a vita i'd really only say Persona 3 Portable, Person 4 the golden, and Final Fantasy 7 off of the playstation store. They're the only ones I have and I love them.

The Persona series without a doubt

If SRPG's interest you then try the disgaea series

Offering monster hunter to someone who wants to play traditional JRPGs is like... Well I'm a bit too struck for a pithy analogy. It's like offering them something completely fucking different to what they want just because you like it. If you like Monster Hunter, you know what else you should try?

Beers. I fucking love beers.

They aren't turn-based, but they're awesome.
Well it's Japanese and an RPG, the two factors asked for. OP didn't mention anything about it being traditional, so excuse me for trying to be helpful.

Definitely this.

There isn't much on the Vita yet, unfortunately, but you can't go wrong with Disgaea 3, and keep an eye out for Ys: Memories of Celceta, which is coming soon, and Mind=0, which just came out in Asia and I'm hoping will get picked up for an English language release, cause it looks great.

I'd also recommend for the PSP...

Breath Of Fire III
Disgaea 1 and 2
Fate Extra
Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection (even if you've played FFIV before, this is the definitive version and includes After Years)
Half-Minute Hero (not an RPG in the conventional sense but by far one of the best games on the PSP, hands down)
Legend Of Heroes: Trails In The Sky
Lunar Silver Star Harmony
Persona 3 Portable (a lot better than the PS2 version)
Star Ocean First Departure and Second Evolution
Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

I'd also second the PSone Classic Grandia.

Don't worry. Be happy!

I'm assuming from your post you have P3P on the Vita. How is it? I bought Peace Walker for the Vita and, whilst the new camera controls are nice the graphics are aliased to hell and the framerate is below 20fps most of the time.

OT: The first two Personas are on the Vita as well, however I'd only really reccomend Persona 2 as the first one has grown dated by now.
