Looking for some less well-known/obscure stealth games

Having just searched the forums, I know that asking for a list of good stealth/assassin games comes up often; however, I'm familiar with most of them - Hitman, Thief, Splinter Cell, MGS series etc.

So, rather than asking for a list of stealth games that repeatedly come up About 9,950,000 times (0.44 seconds), I'm asking, what are some good games (or mods, even) that do stealth really well that might not be well-known 'stealth' games?

Any platform, any genre: an RTS in which surprise/stealthy attacks are viable, an RPG where you can choose to play rogue (while not feeling extremely gimp/shoehorned into combat), an action game which heavily favors evasive maneuvers, maybe an FPS with well implemented sniper mechanics.

Perhaps even something similar playing the rogue class in WoW PvP: recon, hit-and-run, manipulation of the enemy etc.

Hit me with your ideas!
(In the meantime, I just downloaded the Art of Theft :p)

EDIT: Bonus for multiplayer

Hmm.. Velvet Assassin is supposed to be decent if not great. Mission Impossible: Operation Surma was also very good, though it at times aped Splinter Cell rather obviously.

Beyond Good and Evil is about 80% stealth.
Is lesser known, and just got the $10 HD version treatment.

It's also a kick ass game.

You can play all the Deus Ex games as stealthy if you choose; I prefer that route.

Ghost Recon -- the original one -- isn't exactly stealth, but you can definitely snipe to your heart's content and sneak through the brush and all that. You will get your ass kicked if you just charge.

Try Death to Spies, a really cool Hitman-esque game set in WW2.

Well, they're rather well-known games, but Batman Arkham Asylum has a rather large emphasis on stealth in many sections and Deus Ex: Human Revolution is best played in a stealthy manner (even though the stealth can be quite frustrating sometimes, especially at the beginning of the game).

Crysis, Crysis Warhead, and Crysis 2 have a cloak function in the nanosuit that encourages sneaking around to take down enemies, and while I wouldn't categorize them as stealth games, Penumbra Black Plague and Amnesia: The Dark Descent have absolutely no combat in them whatsoever, so your only option when faced with monsters is hiding, being quiet, etc.

Assassin's Creed can vaguely be considered stealthy as well, though you probably know that already.

I can't think of any obscure ones, really. I suppose Fallout 3/New Vegas will let you build a rogue-like character, but I don't feel that the stealthing aspect of those games is any good. I'm not the best person to ask though, as I've never really had a soft spot for stealth games, Arkham Asylum being the first one I really played and finished and only recently getting into the Metal Gear Solid series and Deus Ex.

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and Dark Athena are both absolutely EPIC. Butcher bay first came out on the xbox and it blew everyone away. It got a remake for the current generation and a 2nd campaign (Dark Athena) as well. Together, they are one of my favorite games of all time.

Does the Tenchu series count as obscure?

I don't know if I can count it all, since I've only played one game in the series...that said, Tenchu: Shadow Assassins for the Wii is pretty damn fun. Most of the game is sneaking around areas, finding ways to stealthily snap necks and kill people with their own swords, and getting spotted is a gigantic disadvantage

Commandos 2: Men of Courage is a sort of top-down tactical game set in WW2, where you have a team of operatives, each with their own unique specialisations (sapper, diver, sniper, spy, etc.), that you maneuver around the map.

It's difficult to properly describe, I've never seen anything like it, but I consider it to be primarily a stealth game. You can just shoot everything, but it's far more entertaining and exciting to play it stealthily.

It's an absolutely fantastic game and I highly recommend it, especially if you're fond of playing stealthily.

The thing about stealth games is if they aren't well known, there's a good chance that they aren't that great. The stealth genre is one of the few ones where popularity kinda matters.

Can't speak for the Wii one but Tenchu 3: Wrath of Heaven and Tenchu 4: Deadly Shadows are extremely good.

Could also try Art Of Theft by some cynical guy with a hat. I found it fairly entertaining despite a few annoyances.
