Always Sometimes Monsters is an interesting Life Sim/RPG, and it's cheap enough that if you don't mind a lot of reading, literally 0 "combat", and a fair amount of swearing and dark/mature subject matter (think about on the same level as The Witcher), it's a good use of 5-10 hours, and it's good enough to warrant an extra playthrough or two as well. It's a game where the entire point of it is trying to figure out how important your choices are as you throw everything away for one more chance at happiness.
Bastion/Transistor, for anyone who hasn't played them, are amazing narrative experiences (Bastion moreso) and have great action RPG combat (Transistor moreso) as well as a great aesthetic, soundtrack, and characters. Definitely worth a look.
If you're the kind of guy who isn't bothered by overly girly things as long as there is depth to it, then Long Live the Queen is essentially the Dark Souls of Life Sim games. It's a blast, and you WILL die. Horribly. And you won't see it coming. Hope you like to replay things!
And finally, Risk of Rain is an amazing Rouguelike/Metroidvania crossover. It's rather difficult, but incredibly fun, and the music, oh God the music.
These are all game I would highly recommend to anyone who needs a cheapish and fun game immediately. You won't regret ANY of these should you get them, I guarantee it.
