Have you considered listening to the radio? After 7pm Radio 1 showcases loads of new stuff.

Also, huge lists do not make for a great opening post.
Thats when they do the Black hole thing isn't it? Thats a really good listen for new stuff, I'm gonna have to remember to listen to it myself now, can't remember which days of the week it it.

That's Colin Murray's show. Zane Lowe's show before it is more useful for finding out about new bands, but less entertaining. After midnight you get the specialist DJs for things like Rock, Bhangra or Dubstep.

I dunno.

Colin Murray seems to get things months before even Zane Lowe, like Vampire Weekend and Dan le Sac were both on Colin Murray early in 2007, but only popped onto Zane this year.

Besides, his show is more entertaining...

Three things I recommend to everyone, regardless of listening history:

Talking Heads
They Might Be Giants
Weird Al Yankovic

Aaah, Rock/Metal.. Now we're talking :)

Thrash: Metallica (up until The Black Album), Slayer, Megadeth's "Rust in Peace".

Power Metal: Nocturnal Rites (Check out the "Afterlife" and "8th Sin" albums), Hammerfall's "Legacy of Kings", "Renegade" and "Crimson Thunder".

Heavy Metal: Iron Maiden (for obvious reasons, just steer clear of the albums in which Blaze Bailey was the singer), Manowar's "Warriors of the World" (it's really a work of art), Edguy (listen to the "Rocket Ride", "Mandrake" and "Hellfire Club"), Iced Earth is also wicked awesome! check out "The Dark Saga" and "Something Wicked This Way Comes"

EDIT: OMG, I forgot Sonata Arctica, get the "Ecliptica" and "Reckoning Night" albums ;D

These are my recommendations

Well, if you wanna be narrow minded I can recomend Blind Guardian as one of the most creative and entertaining bands in all of metal.

I loved A Twist in the Myth, I listen to it all the time.
Nightfall in Middle Earth and Imaginations From the Other Side are also great albums

I'm not into metal but System of a Down, Stone Temple Pilots, and (I think) Third Eye Blind are good hard rock. Goo Goo Dolls, Smashmouth, and Presidents of the United States are all great, high energy bands as well.

EDIT: Forgot to add, but Yngwie Malmsteen is extremely hard metal and probably one of the ten best guitar players ever.

Black Sabbath; it's Ozzy Osbourne,
not always, first 6 albums were Ozzy, after that it's Dio and Ian Gillian and Tony Martin

as for Soundgarden, badmotor finger and before are the best ones, after that it's not as good

i'm going to say Skinny Puppy the best rock and roll band to return to planet earth

No need for that thank you very much. I said I listen mainly to rock/metal music, doesn't mean I listen to it all the time, and there's nothing stopping you from listing other bands. But yeah Blind Guardian is great.

You seem like the kind of guy that would appreciate some good Power Metal--

Might I suggest:

Helloween
Gamma Ray
Symphony X
Rhapsody of Fire
Blind Guardian
Iced Earth
Demons & Wizards

Don't get shirty with people because they aren't doing you a favour fast enough.

Have you considered sites like Last.FM? You can put in a band you like, then listen to a variety of similar artists. Pandora used to be great for that too, but it doesn't work outside the US anymore.

So you want some NOISE hu? Well I'm not really into Thrash Metal so I can't help you there, but I do like to listen to LOUD stuff. Try Killing Joke (but avoid Night Time and Brighter than a Thousand Suns); Foetus is good too; Prong is awesome; Ministry (of course); Skinny Puppy; try "Exterminator" from Primal Scream- good stuff; Revolting Cocks (especially Beers, Steers & Queers); "Suicidal Tendencies" from Suicidal Tendencies (it's their first album and their best, great hardcore punk stuff); Helmet (you can never go wrong with them) ; Butthole Surfers; Faith no More; Slint (a very underrated band). That's all I can remember right now.

Well I could just list you off the contents of my iPod pretty much, but some of the best bands I listen to are:

Megadeth, Anthrax, CKY, Children of Bodom, Dethklok, God Forbid, Soil, Soilwork, Chimera, Caliban, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Ounce of Self, Rammstein, Rob Zombie, White Zombie, Sonic Syndicate, Throwdown and Buckethead.

Gotta be something you haven't heard and will like in there lol.
