It's about establishing a routine. Set aside time every day, and you'll just fall into the habit of working out. Since you're trying to lose weight, focus on cardio, so running, biking, and calesthenics. Listening to music or having the TV on in your exercise room will help make it less boring.

Second, find ways to make healthier foods taste good, or just find healthy alternatives to what you already eat. Replace white bread with wheat or whole grain. Replace red meat with white meat or fish. Egg whites are good for breakfast, they fill you up. Popcorn (no salt or butter) is a good snack. Stay away from yellow cheese, white cheeses like provolone are a bit healthier for you. Oh, and stay away from crash diets, like those that tell you to only eat like 30g of carbs a day. You won't have the energy to work out.

But once you get into the habit of regular exercise, dieting will become much easier. Regular physical activity increases blood glucose levels, which means you will be more energetic and wakeful, and less hungry.

Basically this. It's all about routine and making it more enjoyable. Having someone to go with is also great if you're starting a new regime. Good luck :D

A bit of chub never hurt any one. In fact I like a bit of something to cuddle up to! I see incredibly attractive men of all sizes and wouldn't hold it against someone if he were skinny or chubby or muscular.
I do think as long as you're not incredibly unhealthy, if you're happy the way you are then it shouldn't matter.
Yes I do watch too much Gok Wan.

Anyway, a good motivation for me was when I bought a fairly expensive dress that I couldn't fit into when it arrived. So I hung it up in plain sight and used it as a reminder to lose weight. If I wanted to binge out, I'd look at it and say, "No! I must fit into my dress!" and it usually worked.
It wasn't a drastic weight loss, but I could have taken it further if I wanted.
The other time I managed to lose weight without even trying was when I first started taking my pill. It may have been combined with the fact I was walking to and from school and cut out fizzy drinks, but I still had unhealthy food sometimes. The pill can either make you lose or gain weight, and I managed to lose about 8/9 kgs and go down a dress size. I put it all back on in the past year or so though. I'd do anything to get back to that size ;-;

Also count calories. Having less calories that recommended (but don't be dangerous with it) is a very good way to lose weight.

Diet is really the most important aspect of losing weight, even if you don't exercise you can still lose weight with a good diet (that's not to say you should). In terms of exercise the best thing you can do is make it fun. I go to the gym with a friend whos a similar fitness level, we also do classes to mix it up a bit (such as kobo/boxercise), this is also a great way to meet other people in your position and share tips with each other. Sports is a fun way to be active and help you to lose weight without feeling like a real 'workout'.

Weight lose is something which does take a long time, and diet and exercise is something which you have to implement into your normal life as a long term plan to really make it work.

Setting goals for yourself can be useful, as long as they are realistic. If you are a member of a local gym, you can ask someone to assess your fitness level and help you to make a plan for yourself.

I hope some of this was useful, and good luck :)
