Lately I've been watching a ton of League of Legends video's on YouTube, and I've been wondering what MOBA should I get into seeing as there are a ton on the market... Any way I'm a beginner at this kind of game, so any one have any suggestions?

League of Legends is as good as any - free to play, and you've probably watched enough videos to at least know what's expected of you.

My advice? Don't. I personally think this MOBA dealie was stupid to begin with. I played the originals on Warcraft and didn't think they were anythings special then. How someone got it in their mind to actually sell them as stand alone games is beyond me. Even among the "Don't think just have fun"-gametypes there's better choices. Go play Team Fortress 2 or something. (In my opinion)
don't think just have fun? Did you ever even play a MOBA game for real? Even on average level it's a highly strategic game that has you constantly be on your toes and think of what to do or not. It might not be a game for you, but don't misrepresent it either.

And no, I am not a MOBA fanboy or whatever. I've maybe played 10 matches in total in LoL because I was bored one weekend.

This might not be what your after but try "super monday night combat" on steam, it's a MOBA but from a more of an uncharted view point rather command and conquer.

Here watch this over view of it....

I'm not great at it but the community doesn't seem as vicious as I have heard others are.

League of Legends has a pretty good in-game tutorial. And I could give you my referral link, if you wanted.

Demigod is currently $5 on Steam. It's community is probably small enough that you won't get screamed at for having the gall to use Ragethar the Butthurt in the top lane instead of the bottom one. I've never played it but I like Stardock so just giving it a shout out.

Heroes of Newerth if you want deep and fun gameplay. But you cant be depressed by negative comments. Otherwise Dota 2 seems really cool and free to play.

There's that new game SMITE. MOBA for newbies is what it seems to be going for, it plays as more of a third person hack'n'slash from what I hear.

Yeah LoL is probably the best bet. It's really fun and if you've watched enough gameplay footage you probably know enough to get started.

Surprised you watch LoL without playing it first actually, most people would only understand and find it interesting if you've played enough first XD

Oh and Fiora mid is a thing... Fuck your dickish poison harass Teemo! Riposte *****! Blinded? Excuse me while I don't give a fuck and turret dive you completely free with my ult!

I got absolutely destroyed by Soraka mid as Akali. I can't play Akali to save my life so that didn't help but the silence is bullshit!

Just ignore the badder parts of the community and you'll be fine. AKA don't touch Ranked. Ever.

The metagame is strong with this one... Even if I love playing Support Sona (which I do) I would like to see how well she'd do mid. Come on she has the best poke in the game and a ton of heals it might work!

Though I don't think her AP ratios are that great to justify not giving mid to the AP carry.

It's a question of "you could go mid with X and win. But Y would get the most value out of going mid instead"

Is HON even alive still? It seems to have fallen off the radar considerably. I hear it doesn't have bushes to hide in... Garen would be most displeased.

As a side question can someone please tell me if Lulu solotop works? I've heard rumours and she is probably the worst Support in the game if we're talking standard bot lane with AD carry setup. As much as it pains me to say so.

She has a badass poke with probably the best poke range in the game if you use Pix correctly, two good CCs and can escape most ganks with a simple speed buff, shield, ultimate combo.

That Amumu coming out of a bush at you? Turn him into a cutesy woodland creature and walk on back to your tower completely free.

I would go with League of Legends, it is the most new player friendly in terms of mechanics and playing against bots to start can teach you a lot.
There are also a lot of good youtube guides to LoL.
For example I'd look into Ciderhelm's Don't Feed series and Learn The League, his videos are really good for new people.

League of Legends, Defense of the Ancients, Heroes of Newerth...

They all stem from DotA - Defense of the Ancients, which is basically a rip off of Aeon of Six Gods, but no one remembers that - which was a custom map for Warcraft 3. It's a 5v5 team game where you control a character from a top down perspective, and you level and gain gold as the game (on average lasting about 25 minutes per game) progresses. You get experience and gold by killing small AI minions or killing enemy players, and the main goal is to be stronger than the other team by winning fights and subsequently getting more gold and experience so you can overwhelm them and rush their base.

I play League a fair bit, and would recommend it. Thing is though, a game lasts a minimum of 20 minutes (unless one team is really good and the other really bad), which means that if you have a bad game, it's absolute misery to play. Not much in gaming beats the feeling of doing well in it though.

I would recommend League of Legends. It's free and it has a good tutorial. You can also to custom matches against bots or do Co-op vs AI to help ease you into the game before braving the challenge against other people. Be aware that if you do choose to jump right into the competitive scene, you will probably be destroyed because a lot of high level jack asses make "smurf" accounts to have an easy time against new players.

It's a lot of fun and requires a good amount of strategy but be prepared to brave a rather angry community (this is the case with all MOBA games). If you can get some friends to play with you, the game will be even more fun.

It's a term that could be used to describe any multiplayer game where there's combat, but people just stick it on the games like League of legends, defence of the ancients or heroes of newerth.
Another term is Action RTS, but that's falling out of favour because of games like Smite and Super monday night combat which are a third person action game and a third person shooter respectively.

The naming is a little weird and no one's quite sure what it should be called...
