I got absolutely destroyed by Soraka mid as Akali. I can't play Akali to save my life so that didn't help but the silence is bullshit!

As a side question can someone please tell me if Lulu solotop works? I've heard rumours and she is probably the worst Support in the game if we're talking standard bot lane with AD carry setup. As much as it pains me to say so.
Ah see the thing about playing Akali mid against ranged champs is that you basically have to farm cautiously with your Q. Then, as soon as you hit level 6, you jump onto your enemy and burst them into nothing before they know what happened. It's harder to stay in lane though ever since they nerfed her passive.

Lulu can quite literally play any role effectively. Her support is actually pretty good. It's not so much about helping your team (except your ult) as it is about disrupting your enemies (think Blitzcrank support). She's great for initiating team fights. Make your tank gigantic and have him/her run in. Lulu has decent sustain and great harass so she is actually a great top champ. If you go full ap, she can be your ap carry. If you do an on hit/attack speed build, she can be your ad carry.

After playing LoL and then switching to Dota 2 when I got an invite, I would say that LoL is a decent starting point as it removes some of the complexity and is much easier to learn if you're going in with no experience, but Dota 2 (which is pretty much DotA but shiny) has a lot more depth and variety to both in gameplay and the metagame, and so is more fun once you manage to get it down.

I have heard that League of Legends has a community that makes Xbox Live look like a meeting of MENSA. So that might scare ya off of that one.

Is no one going to say anything at all about the absolutely horrible LoL community?
All the MOBA communities are "bad", anyone who tries to say that one community is somehow better than the other is lying through their teeth. Hell at least in LoL seeing the other teams all talk is disabled by default and you can mute your entire team in an instant.

Yeah I can't estimate the damage of my Q well because I never play the character much. So a ton of farm gets lost... Plus I can't get her combo down yet. I go into Katarina mode and try to teleport with E instead of R or I go into Irelia mode and teleport with Q instead...

This doesn't happen with any other Champion in the game. I'm usually good at switching control schemes in any game, I can switch from Halo to CoD to Battlefield to TF2 with zero button fumbling. Akali is someone I can't even get the basics of yet. Except that you don't dive an Akali since Twilight Shroud is so much win you can't even handle it!

Shame cuz my friend is usually an unstoppable dunking machine with Akali. I'm not allowed to play her whenever he is in the game because i'm ruining his character.

Just like how I cringe at a bad Irelia or a Riven who begins every fight with Wind Slash I suppose.

WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?! ARRRRGHHHHHH!

Thanks for answering my question, I really need to play Lulu more. She's the only "new" Champion I bought on launch day since I started playing. Zyra looks to be joining her in that regard XD

So pull a Blitzcrank and sit in the bush until some poor fool gets into range then CC his ass into oblivion? Cool! A leveled Glitterlance really fucking hurts and has so much range

I find you need to out-aggression a Blitz support duo. If you have a Corki you can steamroll them into fleeing to their turret at lvl 1 because that machine gun is horribly effective.

Me and my friend go Corki/Sona now. It's so hilarious just meandering into the second bush where they do that "surpise ownage" thing when you walk in only to get ***** slapped by the machine gun + Q + double damage Power Chord that I charged back at base.

Dota 2 plays like a 10 year old game, its outdated, and some of the gameplay decision were pant shittingly retarded. Put that cognitive dissonance away and accept that you have wasted many hours not having fun playing Dota, and then maybe your opinion will be valid.

LoL is a good starting block, but the model sucks shit. You will end up spending more on it than an actual game that has care and love put into it.

Dota 2 plays pretty much like Dota. It screams mediocrity at every turn, yet the repulsive fanboys will defend it using buzzwords like "balance" and "metagame"

HoN is half Dota, half its own game. It has a superior engine to Dota, but it has a community so utterly repulsive that playing it will cause you to be a worse human being. Oh, and the company running it is retarded.

Smite is ok, kinda weird.

No matter what you choose, you will have fun to begin with, then sooner or later it becomes an addiction, a life sucking addiction, a chore that must be completed. If you absolutely must, I suggest LoL first, then HoN for its now F2P model, then try Dota 2.

Go with LoL, I've been playing it for a little over a year now and, while I'm not completely happy with the changes they have made to champions or some of the champions they have released, I will say that my ability to enjoy it has remained stable. Best part is, when you start out, you're basically given free reign over who to pick and where to go. Once you hit 20+, you basically have to conform to the meta (1 bruiser top, 1 AP Mid, 1 Bruiser/tank jungle, 1 AD Carry bot, 1 Support/ Tank bot).

*Sigh* I remember when you could take Caitlyn to the mid lane.

I definitely recommend League of Legends. When I started getting into MOBAs it was my first. It's quite easy to learn, but the gameplay gets more in-depth the more you play...
Okay, I'm biased, but I really love League. Having tried DotA2 and HoN, League is much friendlier to noobs, prettier (imo) and more exciting. Plus, it's free! Can't hurt to give it a go... unless you like champion skins...and are fond of winning in style.

Get HoN AND LoL
Try both out then decide, they're pretty different gameplay wise. HoN has more of a DoTa feel to it so you'll have denying* and glyphs**.
LoL I'd say is more innovative, adding summoner spells*** and runes/masteries**** into the mix.

*Killing your own minions that have low health to deny the enemy bonus gold
**Gives various bonus depending which you pick up, scattered across the map (one gives you 3 clones)
****Free spells with huge Cooldowns, makes things interesting
*****Largely affects the champions you play as, could flip the whole champs playstyle upside down.

Hell yeah, its like crack.
I am actually super dota 2 fanboy not because I played the original back in the day so not sure if I am allowed to be Dota Elitist but I am more sucked in by the variety of heroes.

and well MOBAs across the board have terrible communities though.

Dota 1 fanboys are the lowest scum on the planet. Simply because Dota was arguably one of the most dumbed down AoS games that was properly developed in WC3, and yet the rabid lunatics would carry on like it was the second coming of Jesus. Reminds me of LoL fanboys now...

It is very, very addictive. And whats unfortunate is that the majority of the games played is with 4 randoms via matchmaking. These games are simply not made to be played like this, and if you ever manage to play with a proper team, the game becomes completely different.

IMO, the only Dota 2 has going for it is the HUGE amount of teams scrimming. The gameplay and heroes are an anachronism. If you do not have a team in D2, I suggest you find one, because your missing out on the best thing the game has to offer.

Edit: oh, and I say this as an ex Dota fanboy.

As someone who has played a hell of a lot of LoL, and not much DotA 2 I say download both of those and play them both right now up until level 5. Before you start learning much about either game and just going off feel and control of both to see which one tickles your pickle. Because if you're like me and would like to try to play both, and I've been playing LoL for years you're going to have a fuck load of "bad habits" come with you, things that work for one game that don't transfer well.

Smite and Super Monday Night Combat can both be played on the side, you're not going to need to learn a quarter as much about the games to be competent, and playing Dota/LoL alongside will likely make you better at them in my opinion (not better at LoL/DotA, better at Smite/SMNC).

Just go for League, no cost to play and community isn't the worst.

League of Legends - It's the easiest to get into. It has a solid tutorial, an AI mode that lets you get with the basics and reasonably decent matchmaking for PvP. It's also totally free, with microtransactions for cosmetic items and convenice. I'd argue that DOTA2 is a better game overall, with more depth and variety, but it's also much harder to get into, the learning curve is pretty much a cliff and there's no tutorial (yet) or anything like that. HON is... well, I'm pretty subjective on this, but IMO it's the cesspool of the MOBA communities, where the worst ragers go to hang out with their own. The other MOBA games are minor and I'd suggest going with either LOL or DOTA2, with LOL being a better choice for a complete newcomer.
