Looks like MW3 will not feature dedicated servers (Kotaku).

It's such a boneheaded move. I admit, I don't work in the industry so maybe they have a good reason not to, but I can't see what it could possibly be.

Not that I was ever going to buy the game anyway.

Unsurprising, dedicated servers cost monies! Oh noes, CoD franchise has none of that!!

But yeah, the more I hear the less I like, pretty sure it's meant to go the other way for new releases. I'll wait to see what it's like but I'm starting to have serious doubts about my initial hopes.
Dedicated servers are amazing and remove so many issues, admittedly the host migration system, when it works, is good. Unfortunately it definitely doesn't always work, sometimes picking the worst bloody connection in the room and sometimes just failing outright but it beats CoD4's system where if the host left it was game up (Sabotage...fuck people that leave just before they lose in sabotage. So annoying.)

So does P2P. Except that the costs are offloaded to the consumer. Dedicated servers are actually quite cheap, and giving the community the option to host them privately, only increases the diversity in the player-base.

if you look at the number of people playing mw2 vs cod4 as of now you can clearly see the benefits of dedicated servers. BF3 is comming out at the same time as MW3 with dedicated servers, and will probably benefit from mw3 not having it. i will probably not buy mw3 if the rumors are true. Also as some people have pointed out: dedicated servers does not really cost much more than peer to peer since it's people paying for servers.

Also dedicated sevrers opens for mods which in turn will help the game have a longer life span.

Is this gonna turn into another one of those "Boycott MW" things and then like 75% of the people who are "Boycotting" it end up buying it anyways?
I think so
it won,t surprise me one bit!
well a lot of the people buying did regrett it.. atleast after mw2 became insanely hacker infested on the pc, which would have easily been avoided by servers, and so would all the other problems with the game.

I can't even fucking connect to MW2 as it is, even if it says over 5000 plays TDM. Never buying a PC-game without dedicated servers again.

I'm pretty sure that the lack of dedicated servers is the reason the Black Ops multiplayer is shit.

Activision, Y U SO STUPID?

i would also like to point out to the people that thinks money is holding back dedicated servers: mw2 got dedicated servers hacked in, it cost nothing. only problem is that the dlc don't really sell well if they go with dedicated servers, but it does not really sell well anyways on pc.. : p

Yeah, me and 2 friends tryed to play today, since i brought friends and have pretty awesome internet we mannaged to play some games, whereupon there were a lot of insults and acusations of hacking thrown around.

Thing is a lot of the problem that mw2 had could have been fixed by servers: noobtubes would have been banned on most servers, deathstreaks could also be taken off. but most of all you could buy a server and mod it so you could kick retards and hackers.

Yeah, which is probably why the campaigns on a number of FPS games (and some non-FPS games) are so short.

I was just saying that I, personally, would only be playing on Singleplayer. I wouldn't expect anyone else to do so. :)

I'm a PC player so I like dedicated servers. No dedicated servers = definitely not getting it. The lack of dedicated servers affects more than just latency. There is a much higher level of hackers and what not on non-dedicated. I predict that MW3 is going to have the same problems as MW2.

Don't take that as fact, Kotaku has been putting out a lot of bogus information on MW3 lately.

Ever since 2003 i was in love with CoD. In 2007, when cod4 came out, i thought, this is the best cod. For me it still is. Great servers, i can kick people for noobtubing and martyrdom, and we can put several game modes in one server. No latency or lag issues, no hackers. MW2 was ok as i am a sniper and the intervention was good, but IWnet really put me off. Blops was just a sad waste of 50 euro and i had such high hopes for MW3, fuck IW.

I'm going back to CoD4

Pfff. I thought i'd give MW2 a go despite the lack of dedicated servers, and while i'll admit I had a lot of fun, i'm going to stay clear of this one. Why they cannot be bothered to just put dedicated servers on for the PC is beyond me, as that would get more people to buy it. I'm hoping battlefield 3 wipes the floor with them, but somehow I reckon it will just pull even bigger sales. Shame what's happened to it really, as many, many people agree that cod4 was one of their best games, yet it seems to be getting further away from it.

Honestly, the biggest problem I've found with not having dedi servers has been from the administration and social aspect. I can't remember lag being an issue more than a few times, and as I'm on a pretty decent connection, I often ended up as the host.

One of the things that occurred to recently, was when I started playing Bad Company 2 again after a long break. I found a decent server-host to favorite (this was about two months ago), that had a bunch of people that pretty much only played on those servers. I like the servers where no weapons are forbidden, and really the only rules are to not cheat, and behave in the chat. After a few weeks, I also applied to be an admin there, which I am now. The difference between playing on un-moderated MW2-servers where people can scream swears and insults as much as they like, screaming "FUCKING NOOBTUBE FAG" for using grenade launchers and the likes, compared to playing on a server with people I have gotten to know, who understand the importance of actually behaving in the chat to be able to enjoy your time on the server is just incredible. The same server-host (not gonna say the name, this isn't an ad after all) also host Black Ops-servers, with the same rules as our BC2-servers, and you can really see how used people from MW2 are to behave like shit when they go on to play Black Ops. The banlist is a looot longer, and whenever I have a sudden decrease of logic thinking and decide to go on Black Ops, I always end up being pissed off at people in the chat, and talk to one of the Black Ops-admins to go on there and sort things out.

I wasn't planning on buying it anyway. And I knew it won't support dedicated servers. They can't bother making dedicated servers when they release CoD games every fuckin' year. They shouldn't even make any more CoD games for PC after this one. Not without dedicated servers and with every PC gamer playing Battlefield 3 when it comes out.
