Well all you Fallout 3 (PC) players, it seems that the GECK has finally arrived, and first impressions (for me at least)..is that it's rather impressive.

Official Download Page [http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/downloads/geck.html]
Official GECK Wiki [http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Main_Page]
Official Bethesda Forum (GECK) [http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showforum=46]
(News courtesy of / spotted by FOKensington & LHammonds over at Fallout 3 Nexus [http://www.fallout3nexus.com/index.php], then dragged over here by me out of sheer giddy excitement)

The tutorials done by the people from Bethesda are a really nice touch, helping along those that are new to this new-fangled modding by walking through a relatively simple level, with basics such as level design, NavMeshing, Actor/Item placement and quest creation.

All in all, this looks to be yummy.

So, time to go out there and get modding!

i just wish the day will come when developers will realize that all gamers are created equal, and they put out this cool stuff for consoles.

Well yes, I do feel rather sorry for those who don't own it on the PC. Hopefully in the near future Bethesda will do some sort of DLC content for console-gamers, much in the similar way to KotN and SI for Oblivion.

But this is AwesomeSauce. There are some incredibly talented modders in the Fallout 3 community who have done VAST things without this. With most of them having some background Oblivion modding experience, I don't think it'll be long before some seriously involved mods come out.

With the GECK out in the open, it'll be an explosion of new mods, ideas, areas, quests, characters, weapons, etcetcetc. I like the Wiki feature from Bethesda too, hopefully modders will be able to contribute their best tips for different features they've been able to implement, so others can follow suite.

Looks like the mod community is back to square one [http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Settings] again. It's sort of hard to complain overmuch considering Bethesda provided a construction set where most games never get one that the users see, but if they're not even going to fill out those vital details I don't see how the users will truly be empowered to do much. Even this long after release, Oblivion's plugins are a decisively lackluster bunch.

I'm really excited! I don't own Fallout 3 for the PC, rather the 360, but I'm still excited for PC users. I do feel a little like the other console users though too.. Missing out on some neat stuff!

I have a proposition!

Perhaps Bethesda can select some of the best mods and user created quests and make them DLC for console users? That would be really great! Especially if they kept it free..

I know that more DLC expansions will be coming out... but I suppose I can't be bothered to actually fix my bricked PC.

I was hoping they would have done that for Oblivion, but nothing was ever revealed. It's never too late Bethesda. C'mon, It's Christmas!

But yeah, I hope you PC owners have your fun. We'll just sit here, mourning our own shallow existence.

all I have to say about the GECK is
"Ladies and gentlemen! LET. THE. MODDING. BEGIN!"
Time to go to work!
might just make some new skins... maybe make it possible to become a super-mutant or something... that would be fun.

Sorry...but you would have found out eventually. It'll be best to get it out of your system early.

*feels rather guilty and whimpers*

EDIT:
Well I guess the follow up question would be...what type of Mods are you expecting to pop up from this? Are there any specific ideas that you think would work, or are you a Modder who is wondering just where to start with the huge thing?

Wow, I might actually buy Fallout 3 now. In my experience, Bethesda games are ok, but the modding is what can turn them great. Thank god they actually released this.

That'll only happen when consoles will be as powerful and extensible as PCs. But then you would lose the ease of use that so many attribute to consoles.
Exactly. The thing is, in order for this to happen, console users would need to be able to connect to the internet, download the mod, uncompress it, and put the files in the correct directories, and sort out any incompatabilities caused by multiple mods or a bad install. At that point, everything that makes a console less complicated than a PC is gone, and they would lose a lot of traction with the whole "I use consoles because they're easier" crowd. The only way for it to work would be the game company packaged it for an easy install. Which would cost them money, so they probably wouldn't.
