Sorry, but being the uninformed person that I am; what's GECK?

EDIT: I clicked the link. It appears that it's a modding tool. This will be good, especially with me considering buying it.

Two words:

Fuck. Yes.

....but on reflection, I feel like an idiot for buying the Steam version, which I've heard has been notorious for being difficult when installing mods comes into play.

could it be possible to move all the game files to another directory and not have steam run it? that could solve the problem

Well, if us console users don't get any of the moddy fun at all, maybe perhaps we could just get a few fixes for Christmas? I would love to have Walter back in my game. And I know my guy would love to have the robots that are part of the end of one quest actually existing.

We're so close to buying it for the PC now. PC users can use commands to find vanished NPCs and even bring them back to life at times of wrongful death and accidental suicide. And now the GECK. Yep. Just might go buy it for PC now.

I don't know where you heard this, but I have had absolutely zero trouble modding STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl on Steam. I would expect F3 to act the same.

Is there no way to transfer mods to the 360 HDD and have it work with the 360 version of Fallout 3?

I want to design my own guns, and I want to make my own items. I don't want bright purple BoS Paladins or Mirelurks in clown masks - I want..... the impossible.
Actually Custom weapons and Armor are some of the most common mods around. It's relatively easy to create a new item in the Construction Set and place it somewhere in the gameworld. Complete with custom mesh and texture. You can even use a normal weapon mesh and just reskin it, then give it custom stats, and a name, and enchantment. You can even have the enchantment activate a script effect. I saw a dagger that turns people into a pile of apples.

Not what I expected it to be about.
Oh my god... my last name is Geck too! That's so... oh wait, that's right... we're related. I forgot, dad.

I have already started getting some mods and making a few videos of Fallout 3. The GECK being realized revitalized Fallout 3 for me. Argh, too much rhyming in that sentence.

Steam is actually very easy to put the mods in, at least haven't had any trouble with my other games. The main thing is that the directory you start from is changed (rather than being say c:\programs\Fallout 3 it becomes c:\programs\steam\aps\so on until you hit the bast 'fallout 3' directory.. and no, I don't know the exact directory, just an example). Basically this just means that an 'automatic' installer doesn't work right, and you just have to manually put the files where they belong because of the slightly different base path.

Course, maybe I am use to this because I tend to never use the default install location anyways.

WooHoo!

Oh wait I have a PS3, so I'm likely to get nowt; and I live in LeperLand (i.e. Europe) so I'm doubly likely to get nowt. Heck we didn't even get Shivering Isles as a download or as a stand-alone from Bethesda the only way to obtain a copy was buying the GOTY edition "Yes muppets you will buy the entire game again; now dance, dance I tells ya".

So, any thoughts on what kind of mods you hope / expect to arrive soon?

And are there any budding modders here at The Escapist who have some epic ideas that they'll be working on?
