I just bought Arkham City today for the PC, and after playing for several hours I decided I wanted to try out the Challenge modes. Upon clicking 'Challenge mode' on the menu, I get this notice saying that I didn't sign up onto my Windows LIVE account even though I signed in hours before, and without any other option it takes me back to the title screen.

Nothing was saved. Three hours of gameplay, insta-gone.

Of course, considering my previous experiences, that was a pretty tame loss, so I'm glad I didn't lose so much. It just sucks that I have to play everything all over again.

So, my Escapist brethren, what experiences do you have with losing your game progress?

I remember accidentally deleting my first file on FF8 where I'd just beaten Norg. I realised the moment I'd done it and was forced to watch as the square of data with around a disc and a half of time put into it shrunk and vanished.

Back in the day when I played snes. I had super Mario allstars, all the games finished to the end and saved. I went to play one day I put the game in and accidentally bumped the machine. The screen went black and played some weird music. I restarted it and everything was erased...instapissed.

I remember the first time I played KotOR... I played the final four hours or so without saving, got to the final boss fight... and lost and spent about ten minutes weeping and bashing my desk. Wasn't that bad, because I realised the derpitude of it all and was laughing within a couple minutes of raising my head.

I lost my Phantasy Star Online files when the memory somehow got corrupted. Yeah I did lost my loots but in hindsight I wasn't that far into it. When I restarted the game, this time I check the assign ID database and the loots assign to that ID meaning I got much better loot the next time round than I ever did in the first playthrough.
