Hey there, this is my first post in this forum :)
Got a long story and short story of my problem.

Long story: My brother told me I could finish the first super mario (on Nintendo) when I was 4 years old (sounds weird..). I've been enjoying games earlier than I have memory of. Some of my best memories are from gaming. And I've always been very passionate about playing, playing too much really (but that's not the problem). So I started playing WC3 as my first online game. I got decent at it, played it with a lot of friends, switched over to DotA, playing it a lot with rl friends. Then WoW came. Played it a good deal, and when I finally had enough of WoW and quit a problem arised: Whenever I played a new game I would quickly get bored with it.
Oh yes, I'm still super hyped for certain game releases. I get the game, play it for a few hours, then get bored (or I don't know if I'm bored, I just turn it off and do something else). Only thing I've been playing in good quantity since WoW has been DotA (only because my friends play it, would never play it alone), but now I don't play that anymore either. I started quite seriously with a sport before this happened though... If that's of any relevance.

Anyone got a good advice up their sleeve? I really wish I would feel more passionate about gaming again, since it is a great hobby of mine.

Short story: I played WoW, got bored and quit, and now I can't seemingly keep my interest for any games anymore.
Help?

Try buying older but great titles, from clasic Nintendo games to newer but still great (and often not well known) N64/playstation games (5th generation), and 6th generation (PS2, GCN, XBOX) games, like Digital Devil Saga (PS2).

The problem probably stems more from how uninteresting games are today more than any change in your mindset. Games I buy these days are good for one playthrough and then most of them are toast, notable exceptions being where the game is for party-play like most Wii titles.
Amen. Had some mindblowing great hours with some buddies and Super Strikers on the Wii. Looking forwards to SSBB like a kid (doesn't release in norway till 6/27).

Also the tip about about going to 5th and 6th generation games might be a good one, since I my favourite games are Zelda; OoT and FF7

This has happened to me before, I'm not sure if my WoW addiction caused it thought. I just wait until a game I'm really set for (such as Assasin's Creed, possibly my favorite game) comes out, and if it doesn't dissapoint, I'm out of a slump. I think WoW may be causing this. I played WoW for a long time, and for a while I got bored and switched to Alliance, but I realized that they all suck (no offense...wait, yes, offense xD). You might want to stop playing WoW for a while, because no other games can really measure up to the monolith.

It is perfectly normal to take breaks from things...games, sports...girlfriends. At least games will take you back when your enthusiasm comes back.

It seems like you like to play games with your friends more than by yourself, so only thing I would say is find more multiplayer games that your friends are playing.

Take some time off ... um ... OK, I'm having toruble here. Way back when I haunted an old forum I used to give peope names when their forum names were too complicated for me to type when I was drinking. And I am drinking right now, and your name is pretty damn hard to type. So from now on I shall call you ukelele.

Ukelele, don't sweat it. Read some books or catch up on old movies. Take some time off gaming. It'll come back. Trust me. If you're not feeling it now, no worries. Live your life and explore new things. Gaming shoudl be a fun diversion, not a prison. You should want to play. If you don't, then don't.

To be honest, WoW did this to me also, until I freed myself of its addictive pull for about 6 months. You see, WoW shackles you to your PC, and immerses you so deeply that you forget time and space around you. Most "other" games can only do this for maybe 1-2 hours, hence you get this odd sensation that the game is becoming boring to you. BUT I guarantee you this - pick that same game up again the next night, just for an hour or two, and you'll love it again. The trick is realising that WoW = an all night session, whilst 90% of other games = a few hours at most. Maybe you need to play 2x games in a given night, instead of expecting 1 to hold you for so long. What I did when I quit WoW was play 2 hours of a PC game (the witcher, cod4 in my case), then went and played an hour of my Wii (geometry wars, boomblox in my case). It kept the games fresh and not boring doing it that way.

Anyway this is my experience and personal opinion of how WoW can affect a gamer's mentality.

Eh, wouldn't say you lost your passion or interest, it's just that you haven't found something "worthy" of playing, basically, you need a new and GOOD game.

Just keep digging! Download demos and stuff. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Company of Heroes are by far my best accidental finds, and I still play them constantly. I'll admit though, Shadow of Chernobyl relies quite a bit on modability.

It's not unusual to feel like that after coming down from WoW-addiction :p
It will pass.
My advice is to play some old favorites for a bit. Some of those games you know are great but haven't played in years.

Go back to your roots. Find the games you played as a kid, and play them again

Or try and play some games online. It might work.

I suppose if it doesn't you can follow Russ's (and others'(wait, is this the right one to use?)) suggestion to lay off the gaming for a bit, and come back when you feel like it.

Strange, but this thread sums up my entire attitude to gaming currently. I have a lot of friends who say "I can't wait for *bleft FPS* or *Actionny Stabby Game* or *FF Chunter Game* to come out!" and my reply is always along the lines of "yes." There's loads of decent games out there, but they're all some bloody variation on a similar theme. Look! Generic Well Made But Standard Tactical Shooter has been released! It's gotten 9/10 from most reviews! It's almost exactly like the last one but with shiney graphics and a tacky addition which happens to be in vogue right now! Oh Whoreslapping Wow! They've made another polished, adequate sequal with vague differences but familiar safe gameplay to the last game!

No risks, that's the mantra of the developer of today. A new idea? Let's just combine it with an old idea and create a game that is substandard at both and use it as a gimmick. Huge processing power? Let's use it all on better animating the blood splatter from your finishing move, rather than creating some vast universe with unparalelled oppurtunity with new physics and interesting design.

I spend more time playing Guitar hero now than other games, and only really because I enjoy the music a little (and being smug a lot). It upsets me that as the canvas of gaming has gotten more potential for artistic development, people are just painting the same mona lisas because the paints cost so much. That's profound, that is. You'd think the Wii would get around it, but from most people I know it's become synonymous with 'tat'. To keep the image going, the Wii would perhaps be a minimalist painting of an apple with seman on it, entertaining and different for a few hours, but just irritating and cringe worthy after that.

Maybe it's all just gotten old now... perhaps there's nothing more to do until they invent holodecks? And frankly, that'll be 99% porn simulation anyway.

Lately I feel as the OP has felt. Getting bored with many different games, online ones at that. Only game I have been having a blast with lately is Persona 3 FES. What makes this game good is the character development. The combat part is so-so. You just climb a dungeon and fight monsters till you get a few levels, then you go and experiment on persona fusions. But most of the game is interacting with other NPC's which I am enjoying.
