Good for you! Now, what are your expectations of it? I mean don't expect it to stray too much from the WoW formula, gameplay-wise (not saying they're the same; personally I prefer LotRO in some aspects).

As a first pro in its favor, LoTRO has, in my opinion one of, if not the best community of all MMORPG's out there (at least where I play, but I'm hearing it's generally great on all servers).

Oh and choose whatever race you think suits you most, I guess. Not hard to realise which race goes best with which class if that matters to you. The in-game descriptions of each race and class are pretty accurate.

Don't be an Elf Hunter, there are way too many of them.
Or at least there were before it was free, and on my server

I had a Hobbit Burglar.

Well, you'll soon see that "free"-to-play isn't exactly true. I tell you you'll either have to grind a lot, or you'll be tempted to pay for some stuff (quest packages, ability to ride ...). The system is really worked out well in that respect. But don't let that dishearten you, it's still a great game with lots of fun, of course a great world and a nice community.

Graphically it shouldn't be too heavy for most computers. Just what you'd expect from a MMORPG that's a little bit older. For me it runs smooth, but it still looks halfway pretty.

It seems as if there is a little overpopulation of hunters. I played one and experienced that there are often more hunters than needed for most instances, so it can be a bit hard to find a group for specific dungeon if you are a hunter.

In my brief experience, I learned the game had a problem with recognizing the player's orders. (I say had because this was a good few months ago and things may have changed, but if not...) I found myself rapidly clicking on an enemy every single time I wanted to attack. "Double click," they say. Rubbish! When I did double click for the 4th time, my character would usually respond and I could get on with the fucking game, but I had to do this for every single monster until (if memory serves) I found a highlight+button combo that initiated battle 10 clicks sooner. Even then, it took a few seconds for the command to manifest in the form of an attack. This wasn't helped when I got to the point where enemies attack on their own, being that, unlike WoW, there wasn't anything like a response when my guy was being attacked. I watched for a few seconds, incredulous, "What the fuck? That goblin isn't stabbing you for his health, (thinking of how these things go) are you going to retaliate at some point?" Well, of course not, if he responds poorly to me, his supposed controller, why would my rocks-for-brains avatar care for other beings? I searched the options screen for an auto-response to being murdered, "maybe I just have to turn it on first," I thought, but to no avail.

Unable to deal with the lousy controls and terrible response time, I ended up jumping from a cliff to test gravity damage as my final command (nothing wrong with movement controls, I'd say) and the end to Mittens the dwarf. Maybe this was just a fluke, it happened a week or two after it went free, so maybe all's well now, but if not, all of the people still playing must be part of the "bad controls are part of the challenge" crowd.
