Because its an annoyance, and you can make the case for it hurts nature (noise pollution).

Personally I feel if no one in the neighborhood minds what you're blasting, and as long as your respectful about it, it shouldnt matter if you do.

Then again...
<spoiler=I got a 40 dollar ticket from police for playing this really loud at 6 am in the morning><youtube=KyBhBfuXdPs>

Which is crap, cause no one even cared and afterword I had people laughing about it when we had block parties (it became a regular song). But meh.
You're a hero.

OT: No, it's not a crime any more than bashing cymbals behind someone's head is a crime. Should you do it? NO.

The only time I'd condone loud music is in a suitable context (see above).

Basically the loud music is supposed to be a social context so that a large group of people can hear it while entertaining guests. Your best bet if you do not like hearing it, Ignore it, go inside or somewhere else.
It can also be considered anti-social behaviour.

Hispanic, caucasion, black arabic etc shouldn't enter the equasion.

Seriously, why should I have to go inside because I don't want to listen to someones music? Why should I move along because someone else is ruining my day? These people should be more considerate.

Just like with people playing their music on loudspeaker on their phone on a bus or train. You have a minority group, useually consisting of 1 - 4 people playing loud music that the rest would rather not listen to.

The reason that the rest of the people do not speak up, is because they fear confrontation. Even worse, they fear that all of the like minded people who find this noise polution offensive, would not have their back despite being the larger collective yet divided group.

Basically people should stop being spineless and tell these yobs to turn their music the fuck down. Then everyone else should have the balls to follow suit!!!

EDIT: Incidentally, this did remind me of monumentally ironic encounter. Whilst waiting for a bus, a fiesta packed whith chav's drove past slowly shouting all sorts of offensive abuse... they were playing Bob Marley... a man that wanted peace and love for everyone. What a bunch of chumps!

One of my Facebook friends posted this on her wall. Really??? Obviously it's going to offend someone, that someone being me. I am not really Hispanic, but racism is a big deal to me. What does ethnicity have to do with anything with music? This forum is not about racism, but where it applies to this situation, feel free to comment on it.

Anyways, I am not one to turn up my music all the way just to let other people hear my music, but i've never had a problem with others doing it either. It may get on some peoples' nerves, but you only hear it for a few seconds before you pass each other on the road and then the sound is gone. It's not going to hurt anyone, so if you've got a system to show off, why not show it off, right? I say turn it up and let everyone know what kind of music you like. Doesn't bother me.
Oh I'm sorry, I didn't realize Hispanics had a genetic disposition to loud music.

I'd accuse you of being borderline racist, but that's not borderline, it's full blown terrible racism, and you should be ashamed of it.

EDIT: Obviously I stopped reading in disgust after the first paragraph, that's my fault, but in my defense paragraphs are usually there to mark the completion of a thought/argument and not saying "this is something my friend posted" before that volatile statement was kind of begging for a misunderstanding. Still, it's my fault.
It's 'usually' .. not 'ussually' ...
Was that seriously worth a post? I know you're new, but you should probably know better than dedicating a whole post to correcting a single word.

In respect to loud music in cars there's an important distinction to be made between being able to hear someone's music as they drive by, and being able to feel it. The latter is definitely, always, and in all cases unacceptable and just plain rude. Also stupid as you are damaging your own body at that point.

When I was growing up in England, my neighbourhood opperated on an unspoken but common rule. If I can hear it inside my house, its too loud. It doesn't matter if it was in the garden, the street, or someone elses home. The moment you intrude into my home with your entertainment, its gone to far.

If its passed ten 10:00 it annoys me

If its played longer then 15 minutes it will probably annoy me.

Call me a pansy but I hate listening to my music loud.

There is a student house a few doors up, and I have wanted to destroy them on a few occasions.

I think you can enjoy loud music, as long as the time and duration are fair. Making a bit of noise for 20-30 minutes in the daytime is a completely different beast to pumping shite for hours in the evening - stretching into the night.

If that's how you do it, I won't feel bad for you if someone phones the authorities or breaks your feckin' legs.

Quite true. Best way to listen to music is with headphones imo.

Yeah some people are just completely inconsiderate. And yeah in most places its against the law if it gets past the point of being ridiculous.

Loud music is a pain, sometimes even when you LIKE the stuff. And if it's loud enough, you don't really have many options. Neighbors blasting it in the middle of the night when you have a long day ahead of you? What are you gonna do, move to the next house over? If they want their music loud, either let them use headphones or invest in some soundproofing. What, that's too much trouble? Well, it's trouble when you're pissing off half the building/neighborhood...

Meh, I'm pretty easy going, but I don't like loud noises in general. Specifically pertaining to music, I pretty much only turn it up enough to hear it over the background noise, and that's how I prefer all the sounds I make/keep around me. As long as the loud music doesn't exceed my own decibel quota (this being easier, as it is typically in a different acoustic area than I am), I'm cool with it.

Your example would be more like pulling up along side someone who is driving and essentially following them to their destination, only you're next to them.

Having someone drive past is like... 1 minute at most, if you're at the lights. ?

I've never known it to occur in bumper to bumper traffic but that would be a parallel to the public transport issue more so that the OP's example.

Yeah no in the area I grew up in, fucking Guidos (no seriously where I'm from it has nothing to do with ethnicity ) would blast Gasolina when they finally heard about reggaetone after the years of its existence. I'm technically from NYC so a car blasting music down the street is a very common occurrence, but depending on how loud it is, determines how annoyed we'll usually be.

However I've blasted Super Eurobeat out of my car when I was in high school like an idiot, "ironically" of course (but I still did it). So I guess I can't complain much on it.

My original point is that I see more problems with the comment than anything because it's not exclusive to any one ethnicity. Douchebags blast their music all the time, they don't need to be any race to do it. Even over here in so polite rural Kanto we've heard someone blasting down our street once, there's no escaping it.

News flash: blaring music at obnoxiously loud volume doesn't make you "cool." Most people will just think you're a jackass. Bonus jackass points if you do it late at night, when most folks are trying to sleep. Doesn't matter what race/nationality you are, it's still stupid.

Younger generations are experiencing record hearing losses right now. Folks in their teens and twenties are often rated as having hearing capabilities more on-par with the middle aged and the elderly. This is often attributed to playing music at volumes much higher than the recommended norms.

If you really want to blow your eardrums out, just crank your iPod headphones up. You can rock your way to deafness without broadcasting it for everyone else to know about.
Not to piss on your parade but Ipod headphones suck ass, they have (what I like to call) sound vents, they have little holes in the outside of the headphone, so when you put the volume up loud everybody else around you can hear it.

I am partly guilty of playing loud music, I have skull candy Titans, which are meaga loud earphones ... there so loud they make my ears ring for 5 mins after wearing them. I know I am losing my hearing (I used to have awesome hearing) so I have knocked the volume down a touch.

I do not play my speakers loudly 'cos nobody likes to hear other peopls music whne your trying to do your own thing. Unfortunatly, somebody in my flats doesn't agree ... on the bright side, normal volume TV drowns out there music really easily.

I think that people should be able to have their music loud if they want to. Expecially if it's during the day! All this time i hadn't got any complaints ever and then one day last some shit head from upstairs complained that the music was too loud and that they were going to call the police on me. Well that has never happened before and i don't think i should be able to have earphones on when it is 2:30pm or 5:00pm in the afternoon!

The racism part has no bearing from what I've seen.

But yeah, it's rather rude to blare music loud enough to be heard by the neighbors. I'm living in the dorms here at college, so it's really bad. I can't be assed reporting it in, so I just drown it out with my music. No one's complained about my methodology yet.
