I hate songs about love, sex, money, ego, nationalism, & religion.

Since that's the only thing anyone sings about, I had to make some changes.
*Parodies are always better than the real song.
*Listen to foreign music; it can be about whatever you want it to be, because you can't understand it.
*Years of foreign music conditions your ears to no longer hear English very well when it's being sung. This makes it almost impossible to memorize english lyrics because most of what you hear is either "blah blah blah" or misheard engrish.

That's like saying "There's too many damn songs about death. They should cut waaaaaaaay back on them, for my sanity."

Consider trying different genres.

Besides, I LIKE love songs. One of my favorite songs ever is a love song!

I approve of your song choice. =)

OT- Hmmm, it seems that I just am too used to the average idea of the love song, that I can't listen to anything similar to that format.

How is this about relationships?

Well, if you say angels, witches, and cats represent women (which they have been used to represent women before) then add in Worm, rat, and such as representing men, then you may have a song showing the dynamics of men and women.

or i could just be reaching.
Nah, it's about the Munster's car, and throwing in references to the occult and Americana, kind of Zombie's thing. You can read other stuff in, but it's not what the singer intended.

OT: There's plenty of love songs, plenty of non-love songs, and it's up to you what infects your ears. I'm sick of shitty club music and barely remixed versions of other people's beats with a new crappy set of lyrics produced by 13 people and a focus group. So I don't listen to the radio and seek out what I like for myself. You're responsible for what you listen to.

I recently rediscovered these guys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ejga4kJUts , who I remember hearing when I was little.

Miracle of Sound does some great stuff, on this very site.

If you don't like what you're hearing... you can stop listening to it! Mind-blowing concept right? All you need to know is one artist, or song you like, and people can recommend you more, you can find more using wikipedia, or one of the song streaming sites that are becomming ubiquitous.

With all of these Spoiler tags with auto-playing songs, I was just WAITING for a RicRoll.

I have been disappointed.

OT: Um... OP, what music are you listening to? If you're listening to Rock - in general - then yeah. That's kind of what most of it is about.

You want non romantic? Get yourself some activist music. Then it's all about politics. Disturbed is a good group for that - plus good music. Although I think a couple of their songs might be about love. It's hard to tell through all the screaming. :D

Or, if you like 80s rock, check out Queensryche. There's one song when they talk about fiscal spending. No, I am not kidding. The song also kicks ass, because... well, it's a heavy metal song about fiscal spending. What's not to love?

Edit: My spouse also recommends System of a Down and Shinedown for non-romantic songs. I actually should have included Shinedown above, because I have a nasty habit of mixing up several of their songs with Disturbed. It's not my fault though - the songs have exactly the same titles.

In my experiences love songs, or songs with themes of love and loss, are good if the person who wrote it actually feels what he is writing, and most love songs are are a boring ride on the S.S. generic to Snooze town, because most people who write them just use it as an attempt to sound gentle and sensitive. This, I feel dose not work unless there is genuine emotion behind the song, a good song is not all about the content, most of what makes a great song great, comes from the soul.

I serenade my opponents on xbox live with various love songs. Bit of Ronan Keating, some Blue, Elton John for those who hate homosexuals, and get down with some Robbie Williams when I'm feelin' extra jiggy.
That's brilliant. Please tell me you put loads of passion into them.

This song is probably the best I can think of that talks about Love in a non-conventional way. It's about how Love is just a biological requirement designed for the purpose of breeding, and how superficial the emotion is. Also Evil Dead spoof for the music video!

LOVE...is a way of feeling
LOVE is a way of feeling less alone
So what's all the fuss about?!?

FUCKING LOVE: the paradox of needing
OH LOVE,
MAKE WAY FOR BREEDING

I know what I stand for;
I STAND FOR ME!!!

I'll wait for the night to come
So far, suicide at home
For I'm not the man you know
This love it's about control

OH WHAT A FEELING!!!!!
OH WHAT A FEEDING!!!!!
Know the chosen ones ARE HERE!
ALL HAIL!!!

I'll wait for the night to come
So far, suicide at home
For I'm not the man you know...
This love,
IT'S ABOUT CONTROL

ALL IN THE NAME OF LOVE
ALL IN THE NAME OF LOVE
ALL IN THE NAME OF LOVE

You think too many songs are about love? Start listening to heavy metal, my man. There are barely any love songs in heavy metal. :p

I was joking. I have listened to Rob Zombie for ages. You would have to be kinda nuts to not know what it means. Anywho, my point is if you reach enough, you could consider nearly every song about relationships. would you be right? er, no.

There's an overabundance of these songs blabbing out everywhere. But they aren't love songs by any stretch of the imagination. They're sex songs. (Or often "Crush" songs.) Huge difference. I hate them.

I prefer a bunch of different songs on entirely different spectrums. While all too many songs out there these days pretty much say nothing but "I wanna have sex with you" over and over again, I tend to listen to songs that more or less say things like...

Hey, when I get tired of love songs, I find some good songs about love. Ones that mellow me out, relax my soul, and make me realize what is truly important in life.

Or I might just really like Strapping Young Lad

LOVE! IS A WAY OF FEELIIIIIIIIIING!

Love is kinda of big theme that we can all relate to. So yeah it's going to be a popular thing to make songs out of.

Fair enough. I can imagine how horribly wrong that could go. Dig Through the Ditches and Burn through the witches... holy shit, I think it'd be a "Love" song about killing your girlfriend. That's brilliant.
