Earlier this week, LulzSec began it's warpath. To start, they attacked PBS and inserted a fake article claiming that Tupac was seen alive in New Zealand along with the image of a man eating a large hamburger with the caption "I EAT CHILDREN!". They then moved on to Sony Pictures where they allegedly compromised 1,000,000 accounts, usernames, passwords, email addresses, phone numbers, and other information with an SQL injection.

Using the momentum they'd gathered, LulzSec asked for donations to move on to bigger, more 'lulzier' things, which they received. At least count, they'd obtained over $160 in Bit Coin donations and used that money to purchase new equipment to launch larger scale attacks. As a warm-up for today's assault on the FBI, LulzSec hacked into Nintendo's main server and stole the server configuration files.

At 8:40PM EST (June 3rd), LulzSec finally launched their attack on FBI affiliate Infragard Atlanta and brought the site down, replacing it with a video meme, claiming how skilled they were. In addition, LulzSec claims that the attack was because of the recent stances taken against hacking by the US Government and NATO as well as declaring their attack on Infragard Atlanta to be an act of war against those two organizations.

LulzSec The Lulz Boat
I do believe it's... its... Friday, Friday, #FuckFBIFriday!
LulzSec The Lulz Boat
Welcome to #FuckFBIFriday, wherein we sit and laugh at the FBI. No times decided, but we'll cook up something nice for tonight. <3
They've previously revealed that they were planning on hacking the FBI last Monday, but after someone suggested the name 'Fuck FBI Friday', they pushed it back to Friday and went after Sony instead. (Judging by what's posted on their Twitter feed in any event.)

If successful, this will be the second time that LulzSec has hacked the FBI...cyber security really just isn't looking too adequate at the moment.

So, place your bets, fellow Escapists! Will the FBI manage to repulse The Lulz Boat, or will the FBI be their next victim? Stay tuned for more information!

[sub]I'm not supposed to take sides, but I'm kind of rooting for the FBI on this one even though I expect LulzSec to win.[/sub]

Edit:
LulzSec The Lulz Boat
By the way, we've received $110 in BitCoin donations and we just used some of it to buy a server with which to own things from. Badass, huh?
Okay, Who the hell is giving them money?

Anyway, since the donations are in bit coins, but they're saying the amount of money they've received in USD...I'd assume that they're stationed in the US. Goodie, we have enhanced interrogation techniques over here.

Edit 2:

LulzSec The Lulz Boat
#FuckFBIFriday draws closer.
So it does, LulzSec. So it does.

EDIT 3: Aaaaaand they've just stolen a server configuration file from Nintendo.

http://pastebin.com/QFJN82X4

Is Microsoft next, I wonder? Once again, the world of cyber security isn't looking too incredible.

Edit 4:
LulzSec The Lulz Boat
Someone is trying to SQL inject our static pages on LulzSecurity.com - we can see you trying it, you are really embarrassing yourself. <3

LulzSec The Lulz Boat
We just DDoS'd the IP that tried to inject us. Let it flow, it floats back to you...
Basically, it's coming down to vigilante vs vigilante. LulzSec has come under attack ALOT recently, but...they're winning. This is getting bothersome.

Edit 5:
LulzSec The Lulz Boat
#FuckFBIFriday in 45 minutes.
It's currently 8:10PM GMT -5:00 Eastern Time. So, at 8:55 EST...we'll find out if LulzSec or the FBI has won.

Edit 6: Aaaaaaand...LulzSec took control of an FBI affiliated website's Atlanta chapter...here's the site. http://infragardatlanta.org/

And here is LulzSec's declaration of war against the US and NATO: http://pastebin.com/MQG0a130

700MB of an FBI agent's company's data(?)...
700MB in emails: http://lulzsecurity.com/releases/Fuck%20FBI%20Friday%20%28FFF%29.torrent | If it doesn't work, F5 a lot - blame #CloudFlare
Edit 7: Everyone worried that the recent string of hacks would lead to Governments taking away internet freedoms? Get to worrying.

Edit 8: LulzSec's attack on Infragard Atlanta seems to be linked to this: http://www.linkedin.com/company/infragard-atlanta-members-alliance

So, yeah. Cyber security is pretty much a joke by this point.

Edit 9: If anyone was wondering what policy LulzSec was referring to in their declaration of war, I've detailed it earlier in this thread: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.288217-So-I-guess-America-really-takes-their-internet-seriously-Updated-with-new-link

They seem to be very active, I wonder what they want to do once they actually get into the FBI files and is that worth it to piss off the FBI.

edit: also why do you announce that your going to hack the FBI that doesn't seem like a smart move on their part.

They announce everything, and noone has been able to stop them. (As mentioned, this is the second time they're going after the FBI. They announced it the first time, and managed to do...something. I wasn't tracking them until a few weeks ago, so 'eh.)

Most of the time, I (wrongly, a lot of the time) consider hacking to be a bit of an aimless passtime of tachnically skilled and bored. But hacking the FBI is serious stuff. They actually have the power to track you down, if they can.

Sounds like someone is getting to big for their britches. They do know messing with the FBI means going to federal fuck you in the ass prison right? And while not to stereotype, most hackers are the big and tough type that could hold their own in a prison yard.

I guess their attention whores, thats really the only reason I can see for announcing all your moves.

As mentioned, this'll be the second time they've hacked the FBI. As much as I hate to admit it, LulzSec is either just that good...or the FBI is just that bad.

NOW things are getting interesting. At this rate, they are bound to learn something about the LulzBoat and perhaps even track a few. If and when they do, they will AT BEST be charged with simple felonies. At worst, they'll be looking at treason and terrorism charges. So let us watch this crime spree unfold, shall we?

Oh, and I just noticed that their Sony attack yesterday has hit national news. [http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/web/06/03/sony.pictures.hacked.mashable/index.html?hpt=te_bn7] Sony still has yet to make an announcement to confirm, but apparently the LulzBoat announcements were enough for CNN.

Why this forum is starting to read less like a Gaming news site and more like an extension of the chan sites? Also anyone rooting for these hackers are idiots.

@Kopikatsu, I am not attacking you, I just venting my frustration with these ass hole hackers.

The Quote "This is why we can't have nice things" come into play.

Yes Companies need to beef up there security, cough Sony cough. Companies need to get Some IT security experts on board, preferably one with hacker experience.

Patients son. I don't know if you understand how tracking people down works, it isn't easy to see, "oh hay, we're getting haxored! Look, it is lolcatz. -_- Lets drive down and get them." It will take a few months if not a year or so. But the FBI is paid to be relentless and will find the guys and toss them in prison.

I'm willing to bet if they hack the FBI they won't get caught. People think the FBI are some gods of intelligence that can track down anything, but lulzsec aren't stupid enough to announce and do this unless they knew they couldn't be caught by it.

Now don't get me wrong, I have no special love for Sony, i play on X-Box. But do you honestly think Sony, a multi-billion dollar international technology company doesn't have at least one IT guy with some hacking experience on board? The problem is as soon as you close one hole, another will open and some must be kept open to keep online commerce open. There is no prefect system. Not only that, being defensive means a they are reactionary, it is hard to be on the attack when you don't know who is going to hack next.

It is not just a simply black and white do this and be safe forever world they work in.

That is some bravado there. It will take some police work, and investigating, but I don't think lulzsec are some sort of elusive gods of hacking that they can't be caught.

correction: it will find these guys toss them in prison and then the NSA will "hire" them :p
NSA will hire one or 2 of them (depending on the size of the group) but there will be a few that are made an example of.
