Chocolate Rain
Some stay dry but others feel the pain
Chocolate Rain
Build a tent and say the world is dry

I kid, I kid

Holiday in Cambodia - Dead Kennedy's:
So you been to school
For a year or two
And you know youve seen it all
In daddys car
Thinkin youll go far
Back east your type dont crawl

Play ethnicky jazz
To parade your snazz
On your five grand stereo
Braggin that you know
How the niggers feel cold
And the slums got so much soul

Its time to taste what you most fear
Right guard will not help you here
Brace yourself, my dear

Its a holiday in cambodia
Its tough, kid, but its life
Its a holiday in cambodia
Dont forget to pack a wife

Youre a star-belly sneech
You suck like a leach
You want everyone to act like you
Kiss ass while you *****
So you can get rich
But your boss gets richer off you

Well youll work harder
With a gun in your back
For a bowl of rice a day
Slave for soldiers
Till you starve
Then your head is skewered on a stake

Now you can go where people are one
Now you can go where they get things done
What you need, my son.

Is a holiday in cambodia
Where people dress in black
A holiday in cambodia
Where youll kiss ass or crack

Pol pot, pol pot, pol pot, pol pot, etc.

And its a holiday in cambodia
Where youll do what youre told
A holiday in cambodia
Where the slums got so much soul

The song attacks both Eastern totalitarianism, Western complacency and the direct relation between the two through American military intervention. The song's lyrics offer a satirical view of young, self-righteous Americans (So you been to school/For a year or two/And you know you?ve seen it all/In daddy?s car/Thinkin? you?ll go far...) and contrast such a lifestyle with a brutal depiction of the Pol Pot regime of Cambodia (Well you?ll work harder/With a gun in your back/For a bowl of rice a day/Slave for soldiers/Till you starve/Then your head is skewered on a stake).

I culled the description from wikipedia by the way.

Sometimes, I feel the fear of
Uncertainty stinging clear.
And I can't help but ask
Myself how much I'll let the
Fear take the wheel
And steer.

It's driven me before, and it seems to
Have a vague, haunting mass appeal.
But lately I am beginning to find that
I should be the one behind the wheel

Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes.

So if I decide to waiver my chance to be one of
The hive
Will I choose water over wine and hold my own
And drive?

It's driven me before and it seems to be the way
That everyone else gets around.
But lately I'm to find that
When I drive myself
My light is found.

Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes.

Would you kill the Queen
To crush the hive?
Would you choose water over wine?.
Hold the wheel and drive?

Whatever tomorrow brings, I'll be there
With open arms and open eyes.
Amazing song, that is. Such beauty.

I agree. But I love a lot of Incubus' songs because of their lyrics. I Wish You Were Here, Love Hurts, Anna Molly, Talk Show on Mute...mmm. <3

I've sort of adopted as a motto the following lines from Paramore's song Decode:

"The truth is hiding in your eyes, and it's hanging on your tongue, just boiling in my blood, but you think that I can't see..."

This sort of links to how I sometimes feel when people hide things from me and think I don't know, and also when I hide my own feelings (I'm a pretty closed up person...).

If you listen to the song, you notice that the singer is quoting the girlfriend referred to in the song. That passage is what she says, he merely says it as a quote when taken into context.

Yeah. My other favorite is Dig.
We all have a weakness
But some of ours are easier to identify. Look me in the eye
And ask for forgiveness;
We'll make a pact to never speak that word again.
Yes, you are my friend.
We all have something that digs at us,
At least we dig each other.
So when weakness turns my ego up
I know you'll count on the me from yesterday.

If I turn into another
Dig me up from under what is covering
The better part of me.
Sing this song
Remind me that we'll always have each other
When everything else is gone.

We all have a sickness
That cleverly attaches and multiplies
No matter how we try.
We all have someone that digs at us,
At least we dig each other.
So when sickness turns my ego up
I know you'll act as a clever medicine

If I turn into another
Dig me up from under what is covering
The better part of me.
Sing this song!
Remind me that we'll always have each other
When everything else is gone.
Oh, each other-
When everything
Else is gone.

It takes a stiff upper lip
Just to hold up my face
I gotta suck it up and savor
The taste of my own behavior
I am spinning with longing
Faster then a roulette wheel
This is not who I meant to be
This is not how I meant to feel

- Wish I May

May I have your attention please?
May I have your attention please?

Did you ever read Voltaire's "Candide"?
He says live life at Benny Hill freak out speed
Not a quote of what he wrote but a paraphrase
Make it up as you go Keyser Soze
Highlights yes but don't underline 'em
Just live for N.O.W. like Gloria Steinem
Life is like Marion Barry
It's not all that it's cracked up to be
Like Fred Sanford when the big one comes
Find the meaning of life is there is none
It's twenty-four hours when you call it a day
Be Frank and say "I Did It My Way"
Don't give a flying nun no don't give a Gidget
Just have more fun than a well-oiled midget
If life were picture perfect you could frame it
But the world is a diaper so let someone else change it

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride, take the long way home

May I have your attention please?
May I have your attention please?

All born equal unless you're Canadian
Then halfway through decay like Uranium
You define what's death-defying
Get the most out of life or at the least die trying
Are you Evil Knievel jumping a train?
Or running with scissors like Frasier Crane?
Have really good times doing really bad things
'Cause the show ain't over 'til the fat lady sings
Like Elton John with his candle in the wind
It's hard to blow out a flame as big as him
But we've all got to Wang Chung with the Grim Reaper
Whether you're Einstein whether you're Beaker
Death is certain so it's definitely worth flirtin'
Don't expect a bright light no just curtains
Life is like a penis most people don't know it
But most people suck so they usually blow it

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride take the long way home

Life is an aimless drive that ya take alone
Might as well enjoy the ride take the long way home

That's enough!
I said that's enough!

Also
Sometimes it feels like the juice is just one, hell of a squeeze.
I'm wringing it out my hands, drinking in my agony.
I love this shit and I hate this shit, I need it just to survive.
I've served my time, I've earned my keep, and now I'm taking what's mine
(And only I can stop me)

So what is it that you were fighting for?
Is it something that's worth dying for?
(Look me in the eyes, don't tell me.)
Is it in your heart, what your striving for?
A painful lesson learned is worth so much more.
Can you open up your eyes and see?

All of our lives we ask ourselves is this really what's meant for us,
Take a cold hard look at yourself, it takes heart to face your reality.
I can, I can't, I cannot give two shits about your self doubt, when it's time to rise
I won't sell myself out (I won't sell myself out).

So what is it that you were fighting for?
Is it something that's worth dying for?
(Look me in the eyes, don't tell me.)
Is it in your heart, what your striving for?
A painful lesson learned is worth so much more.
Can you open up your eyes and see?

And doubt falls away, like pages in a good book like an autumn leaf's decay.
And doubt falls away, like sand in an hourglass the end of a perfect day.

And doubt falls away, like pages in a good book like an autumn leaf's decay.
And doubt falls away, like sand in an hourglass

[Solo]

So what is it that you were fighting for?
Is it something that's worth dying for?
(Look me in the eyes, don't tell me.)
Is it in your heart, what your striving for?
A painful lesson learned is worth so much more.
Can you open up your eyes and see?
And finally
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Fighting back the impulse turn my head and close my eyes
Spending these nights awake and cold and paralyzed
Wonder how we got this far and never realized
The common thread that binds our lives
And I know you hurt
But I can help you if you can...

Take my hand
And we'll live inside the dreams we left behind
Take my hand
As we move from this place to a better life
Take my hand
Wohoooha
If you take my hand

Fighting back the feeling that you always could deny
Anything but everything we know is just a lie
As I cremate this memory and watch the darkened ashes rise
And beneath the smoke
I'll stand and ask you if you can...

Take my hand
And I'll promise not to ever let it go
Take my hand
'Cause this hope is greater than you'll ever know
(Take my hand)
And this is all I'll ever ask of you to show

Fight back the urges
Turn my head and close my eyes
And will I wake tomorrow still alive

I'm still dreaming
I'm still waiting
I'm still sure
(I'm still sure)
You're still living in a life
That isn't yours
(That isn't yours)
And this is part of me
I hope you never see
This is my life inside your heart

Take my hand
And I'll promise not to ever let it go
Take my hand
'Cause this hope is greater than you'll ever know
(Take my hand)
And this is all I'll ever ask of you to show
Which perfectly describes my current relationship situation!

'I thought I lost you somewhere, but you were never really ever there at all'. -Here is Gone, The Goo Goo Dolls.

I think this line absolutely captures the feeling of an unexpected betrayal that saddens as much as it brings anger. I love The Goo Goo Dolls to bits.

"This is a song about a rose
Or perhaps it's a song about the shadow of a rose
In the morning the apple sellers congregate on corners of their own
But you and I we sing our song about a rose or perhaps the shadow of a rose

With the children of Fribourg and the good thief standing by
We consort in silent rendezvous and call the world a lie
When our song is but a candle that will one day burn away
The children of Fribourg cannot hear what we say

This is a song about a rose
Of lonely caravans whispering to God
To chain the world in prose
But people are not singers and life is not a song
And even God can only guess
Why or where or when or if
The answers all belong
And you and I we sing our song about a rose
Or perhaps the shadow of a rose"

- Song About A Rose by Pearls Before Swine.

I love songs you can waste hours thinking about. Why Fribourg? Is the 'good thief' Death?
But as the song says, even God can only guess... do we really see the same rose? Or do we each see a shadow of that rose differently? It's essentially a meaningless song, but that's sort of the point.

I need to listen to this again...

In a little While
Surely you'll be mine
In a little while I'll be there

In a little while
This hurt will hurt no more I'll be home, love

When the night takes a deep breath
And the daylight has no air
If I crawl, if I come crawling home
will you be there?

In a little while
I won't be blown by every breeze
Friday night running to sunday on my knees

That girl, that girl
she's mine
And I've known her since

since she was a little girl
with spanish eyes

oh, when I saw her, in a pram they pushed her by

Whoo hoo, my how you've grown
well it's been, yeah
it's been a little while

Slow down my beating heart
Man dreams one day to fly
a man takes a rocket ship
into the sky

And lives on a star that's dying in the night
And follows in the trail, the scatter of light
The rest is just a few lines repeating. Hands down U2's most beautiful song. I can guarantee you can't guess what this song is about, though.

EDIT:Scratch that, U2's most beautiful song with the possible exception of Kite.
I do! :D
I think Sometimes you can't make it on your own or the sweetest thing is there best though

Haha. What in the world? That made me giggle for some reason. K for my next lyric:

And it seems such a waste of time
If that's what it's all about
Mama, If that's movin' up then I'm movin' out.
Mmm, I'm movin' out. Ooh-hoo, uh-huh, mmmm

Movin' Out (Anthony's Song) - Billy Joel

Okay, I just love this song. But I just like how the first verse is saying that there's no point in working your life away to get what you don't really want. Might as well live your life. That's what I plan on doing.

Yeah, those are really nice songs. Still, if you're comparing U2 songs by simple beauty, there's no way you don't end up with In A Little While and Kite.
