M Night Shyamalan booed by NYC audience... though I'm not sure why?

M Night (not even going to try spelling that last name) is a brilliant director who's a really shitty writer. He could be really good with the right crew, but he was successful as an auteur director a couple of times and he let it go to his head.
As for Airbender, there was no fucking way that was going to be good, so I don't blame him screwing up, just for being stupid enough to take the project up. Considering how much material he had to cover in such a short period of time and the studios weren't allowing him to change or condense any of the important points? Yeah, Peter Jackson couldn't have made that movie good.

Apparently they erupted laughing at the words 'From the mind of M Night Shyamalan. Am I stupidly missing a very obvious joke somewhere?

Anyone know the full story here? Is it something to do with Last Airbender?
don't worry sugar, you're not stupid. M.Night has been trying to re-create his '6th sense' success, and has failed miserably. M.NIght's latest cinematic abomination is The Last Airbender, a horrible attempt to make a series into a movie. Bad idea. Combined with bad acting, and bad dialogue, the only GOOD thing about the movie was the bending, but a film can't float on flashy effects alone.

anyways, that's likely why they were laughing.

oh and "Devil" looks silly.

Did anyone notice that Shayamalan didn't direct this movie but two other guys, Drew and John Erick Dowdle? Shayamalan just wrote the story, not even the screenplay according to the credits.

No? Too busy bitching about Shayamalan?

Thought so.

You know what's funny. Years ago when I was saying this douche was a hack everyone was like.

'ohh nooo. he's like a superamazingvisionaryofthefuturehaven'tuliekseensixthseseandallthatcozheislikeamazinganduberliknootherdirecter'.

Now like what 6-7 years down the line everyone's just catching up going...

'mmmyea, you were kinda rite there Jonny.'.

He was a hack from day one he's a hack now. Although horribly choreographed advert aside that might be his best (whatever passes for a film for him) film since 'unbreakable.' Which was his only watchable film.
People do have their own opinions, maybe they liked his earlier movies. That doesn't mean now that hes fallen you can just say that they were all wrong to like those movies.
If people still liked his earlier movies they wouldn't be booing him. No one cares about his older movies because when people look at them in retrospect. They were all garbage. Loose stories held together by one plot point that is revealed at the end. That's not good story telling. It's equivalent to

'And then they woke up and it was all a dream'

They were bad movies. Period.
Again because you think they were bad doesn't make them bad. People aren't booing for his old movies but for his newer ones. Please don't reply saying that they were all bad...again.

First off, I'm actually going to, shockingly enough I know, defend him a little. Since I'm not one to jump on the "we hate M.Night" band wagon, I'd rather see a movie and judge for myself what I felt about it. His movies this far, have at least if nothing else, been original ideas, that don't rely heavily on shock and gore, and tend to make you think a little, which doesn't also work out I admit, and I wont say I love all his films, I hate a few of them, but I hate them for my own reasons, not cause some critic pointed out flaws that I honestly didn't even care to see. Like the Last Air Bender. Honestly, with all the hate that movie is getting, I'm in awe. I saw the movie and actually had fun with it, enjoyed it even. And I have seen the whole Avatar anime series and loved it. I have friend who are fans of the Avatar series and they liked Air Bender as well. None of us thought it was by any means perfect, but we enjoyed it. I thought it stuck true to the main story, and frankly with the tremendous task of getting ten hours of book one into an hour and forty minutes, sacrifices had to be made, and a lot of the filler... let me say that one more time, FILLER, had to be cut. Its not like he had a budget like Peter Jackson had for the LotRs, there was no 3-5hours a film, which is too bad cause that would probably have helped it to feel less rushed. Anyways not to stray off topic, I don't get why the man gets so much flak for his films, has anyone seen anything from Uung Boll? There are some movies that deserve some scorn, in fact there are plenty of movies out there far more deserving of some hate, need I bring up Dragon Ball:Evolution? now THAT was an atrocity to a story. I guess what Im getting down to is, whether you love him or hate him, you'll still watch M.Nights movies, and if you DON'T see them, you really have no place to comment on them, based solely on what someone ELSE thinks.

Should be pretty obvious why. The premise of the movie is literally "A group of people are trapped in an elevator...and one of them is SATAN! *dun dun dun*"

Of course, there's nothing especially inherently humorous about that; it should just be another bad, bad movie written and directed by people who are bad at what they do. Nothing new or special. But this bad, bad movie was written by Shyamalan (who is bad at writing) and even goes so far as to completely embody his flaws as a writer. Coming in after a long series of absolute crap also made with his explicit involvement, the joke just gets better and better.

They were all bad... again.

What I'm saying is that if they had any actual respect for what he did in his early career then they wouldn't boo him for making what they would perceive as 1 bad screw up.

Everyone is allowed one or two mistakes and if they liked his earlier stuff they would just give him the benefit of the doubt. Evidently not the case.
What society do you live in where people aren't irrational idiots leaping onto every bandwagon they can find and insulting every famous person for every mistake regardless of what they've done in the past?

You can't judge a movie that's not even getting directed by the guy. Last Airbender sucked mainly due to the plot. The effects, the editing, and how the movie was presented non=plot wise seemed pretty good. I underline *seemed* though. And for Devil, they tried to use the name to get interest. Like with like the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Director was the dude who did National Tresure, and then Jerry Bruckheimer's name. I'm sure some people were kinda.."eah".. at hearing his name, since Sands of Time was kinda meh.

That new movie actualy looks somewhat interesting. Atleast the deeper concept. How like people are two-faced, and stuff. I personaly just like seeing psycological stuff about people's perceptions and all that. That's just me. Granted, I'm sure like with a number of movies, trailer looks good, but the movie sucks. Can't really say till the movie's out.

As for the laughing, I'm sure it's probably just people opiniated about his work now. Cause some of the concepts for some of his movies sucked, and such. Plus the name and culture refrences probably.
Honestly, I woulda wanted to be there in one of the movie's where they showed the first new Twilight traler. Specialy if it was toppled with a good movie like A-Team or whatever. That woulda been funny.

Huh... I quite enjoyed his movies, though I only saw Sixth Sense, the Village and Unbreakable.
Congratulations, you've seen his early (and only good) movies.

Everything he's done post-Signs has just been absolutely terrible, with his latest flick being one of the worst movies of the decade (according to critical reviews, I haven't seen it yet so I can't judge for real).

My theater let out an collective "daahh..." of exasperation when his name popped up in the trailer. As though it had actually been intriguing and interesting right until THAT POINT.
