How many of you have heard of Mugen? If you have then what's the main site you go to for characters, and how large is your roster? There are alot more questions I want to ask, but I'll save that for later if this turns into a conversation.

Main site I go to is eSnips, because that's where people love to warehouse characters. As for legit sites, I've got too many bookmarked.

My roster is over 800 characters and I use EVE Battle (Everything vs Everything) as my screen pack. Of course because of that sheer number it takes a long time to load up. Overall my MUGEN folder is over 7GB in size.

lol. It's pretty much a custom fighting game where you add your own roster, download your menus, health bars, etc. (there are default ones). It's really fun if you do it right.

M.U.G.E.N. is a customizable fighting game engine. It was originally created by a group called Elecbyte several years ago, and since then people have been making their own characters, stages, screen packs, and full games based on it. You can see a lot of MUGEN stuff on YouTube.

Elecbyte disappeared for a while until suddenly coming back about a month ago.

I basically got a lot of it from my brother's old DVD, then I just started adding loads of characters and stages ever since. I believe I've started doing it since 2006 or 2007.

Hmmmm..... Oh gawd I had loved the game a lot, had a somewhat large roster but the problem with MUGEN is that half the people who make characters can't AI program worth a damn (I know that's the hardest step but, come on....) I mean either the character ends up being so hard that you might end-up smashing up the computer or easy enough that I can beat that person blindfolded and both my arms tied behind my back and almost no middle ground.

Yea that's the truth. People like strider or Sora are so hard but fun to play as, so I made an entire file deticated to characters that are either too cheap or too hard. But people like Peter Griffon that are so easy I can't think of anything to say.

wow Thats awsome.I started in the beggining of 2008. we then had to wipe out our computer due to a virus so I lost everthing. Now I've made a pretty good recovery of my roster and got the same screen pack I had last time (Infinity).

For those who want to know what exactly is going on:

basically sum up what the premise of M.U.G.E.N is. It's a fully customizable fighting game engine: you can add characters and stages, change the look of the health bars, etc. The common name used on the Internet for it is actually MUGEN EVE: EVE standing for Everyone Vs. Everyone.

The audio quality on that second video is pretty bad. Mostly, the quality of MUGEN depends on the amount of time/effort that the characters and stages you download had put into them by their "creators": some people like making crazily unbalanced characters for the hell of it (Guilty Gear ones in particular tend to be wicked strong), and some just break the game. Sepiroth can heal himself and do nuke-level damage, for instance.

And, as with all things on the internet, naked characters abound, so you should be wary when adding new characters, ESPECIALLY female ones.

All in all it's a nice laugh, though I couldn't take it seriously thanks to the balancing issues and the controls being awkward as hell for me.

EDIT: Also, the AIs can be rather random, and the collision detection can be too. Just the price you pay for having so many characters being worked on by different people.

I used to play MUGEN, collect heaps of good characters with decent AI and stages. I just downloaded massive torrents of collections by other people from isohunt and mininova back when it was really popular, there was shit loads to download.

Best characters was Brolly and Dragon Claw, also the evil character versions were cool too.

I actually play all the time. I play it like it's solitaire. You know, while a video buffers, or when I'm waiting for a big site to load.
Favorite character is Tetsu Yatogi and his variations.
He's so balanced. I only have about a hundred characters or so, but the AI on half of them suck, and the other half I still can't beat a lot of times. eSnips is definitely the place to get characters and stages.

Eh. It's kind of amusing to watch, sometimes. Mostly it just gets in the way when I'm looking for videos on youtube. I've seen quite a few people who mistake Melty Blood fights for Mugen, in fact...

I make a very few exceptions.

If you watch, I'm sure you can guess why I make it an exception...
