This thread is a DISCUSSION. SO DISCUSS. I don't want to see any comments saying, "macs r gay lololol" READ this post and then answer it.

So anyway, me being a hipster douche bag and all, I use a mac. It's not the newest model, second newest, but it works fine. And so I was watching those hilarious "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" and it got me thinking. At this point in our modern era, it does not matter. Sure, 10 years ago it would be a HUGE difference in choosing between the two, but now, both sides are losing their definitive aspects. Any smart PC user won't get (m)any viruses, they'll use a decent graphics card, and they know how to do everything simply. Macs are introducing video games with Steam and whatnots, the awesome applications like imovie aren't free anymore and they're getting more compatible with programs. The discussion has been redundant. Regarding hardware, with macs, you'll be paying for quality, but any smart computer user will tell you that it's overpriced and it's purely for the aesthetics, but it's not considerably more powerful. The hardware with PC's can range from excellent to terrible, so it's really much more flexible. Comparing the two operating systems, they've gotten even more similar since snow leopard and windows 7, with nothing that's ever really bugged me from either side. Now don't get me wrong, these are two different computers, but all the arguments and debate over which is better has long passed the point of it mattering. Now a mature person will tell you that it never mattered, but shut up; my thread!

So, the question is: Which one do you use and how does it affect your usage of the computer? Could you do everything you normally do on your current computer on the other? Are there any myths that you would like to explain that aren't true?

P.S. I know nothing about Linux so that's why it wasn't discussed here but feel free to talk about it.

I know it's a bit late but I'll add another question for discussion. Would you think that a mac is a better choice if it was cheaper? It seems like a stupid question but think about it.

I use a pc because I'am used to work with a pc, thats the #1 reason why people uses PC's.
If my first computer was a apple I would have had an apple.
the difference is not that big since a mac can have two mousebuttons.

Wishful thinking. This is still a versus thread, and that means trouble.
Yeah, basic reason why VS threads are frowned upon, but a good VS thread can be good.

I make the random joke from a comic I used to read that all mac users go to hell, and that's why I use a PC. To be honest I don't use a Mac because it doens't fit my needs. a PC is more for word editing and business, but can be used for gaming. A Mac is used for gaming, graphic and sound editing, and other features.

I've studied in accounting and Business, and the only game I run on ym PC is WoW, so I simply have a Dell laptop

I'm a mac user currently and I foresee this being the case for the foreseeable future. I just had too many reliability issues with my old PCs, something I've not had a problem with in the 3+ years since I switched.

Also, I predict that this thread will not end well. They never do.

I have used all three operating systems and I have to say I like PC most, based on a mixture of a large software library and I simply find it easier to get things done, I'm planning on replacing the macbook I'm using to type right now, for an Alienware m11x.

Eh... Macs are overpriced because of quality? No, they're just overpriced, end of story.
Macs are overpriced because they sell a lifestyle, just like any iProduct.

I'll pick a PC for affordability, customisation, and not treating me like an idiot when I try and do things my way.

They are both used for different things so I dont think that there is any kind of competition. You arent gonna think which one to use, if you wanna edit movies or something like that you obviously gonna use Mac, if you wanna play games or something like that you obviously gonna use PC (or console but this is not thread about those).

Nice buzz word there buddy, 'lifestyle'. It's a monolithic design, we get it, that's not a lifestyle. An ipod is not a lifestyle, it's a gadget. An iPhone isn't a lifestyle either, it's a gadget. A Mac is not a lifestyle, it's a gadget.

nice to see you're going with PC, where the word 'personal' means something instead of war on unique computer designs.
Buzzword or not, that's what they're doing. Selling you a trend that happens to involve a product. That's why they keep up the "hipster" image, and so on.

"War's" a bit much.

He actually does have a point. Apple does attempt to sell a lifestyle, and this is evidenced by the "I'm a PC, and I'm a Mac" commercials. PC users are depicted as being uptight, boring businessmen while Mac users are depicted as being trendy, cutting edge consumers.

That isn't a bad thing, really, and it's worked very well for them.

As for the OP, I'm a PC user through and through. I've used Mac's before and while they're pretty solid systems, the absurdly high asking price, the limitations on customization and the lack of gaming is basically what's keeping me away.

That and the entire animation industry uses PC, so I'll stick with that ;)

This won't end well.

But anyway, From what (little) i know, Windows is more for gameing, Macs/linux is for computer work/art.

My main problem with macs (and all Iproducts) Is that most the time you're paying for the pretty brand name, Not the actual use of the device.

You're partially right; it depends entirely on the type of work you want to do. Mac is great for applications like photoshop and any video editing software, but it's not nearly as capable when it comes to 3D modelling and animation (which requires insanely high-powered hardware and customization).

Windows does have the market when it comes to gaming, but they're also used for work. Their high level of customization is helpful to many businesses, as is the ability to upgrade/replace single parts rather than the entire system.

Speaking of prebuilt systems priced way beyond what their hardware is worth.
I agree fully when it comes to Alienware in general, but the m11x is actually pretty damn reasonable given what's in it.
