Why are there no games for the Mac? Blizzard is pretty much the only company that puts out games for the Mac and I am not really sure why.

Why are there no games for PC? Oh wait...

Try Steam, I'm pretty sure they converted a crap ton of games to the Mac platform and had a huge ass sale for them a few weeks back :p

No idea, to be honest. Best thing I can figure is that they know more people have Windows, so they don't bother porting to a platform that won't get them as much money. Really though, it's stupid, and I'm glad Steam broke that trend. I'm tired of people saying Mac sucks because other people don't make stuff for it. I'd be hard-pressed to find any reasons for Windows' existence if Mac played all the games. Of course the ability to dual-boot already cancels that argument, but whatever...

OpenGL. like I said.

OpenGL is the sole reason many games are not on mac.

Also macs don't suck because other people don't make stuff for it. Mac sucks because refuse to take risks, they're also last to the new technology line.

Don't forget obscenely overpriced. I spit my soda when I was reading in a paper a while ago $3,000+ for a Mac that was below my $1200 PC. Even if you wanted to tack on the extra grand I spent on my wacom monitor/tablet it's not in the same ball park in price. There's no justification for the price hike, none. Their notebooks are functional and durable but I still don't see myself spending 2 grand on a laptop.

This is all preference I'm sure, many Mac users I've run into love to try lecture me about PCs not being for art which just shows their ignorance. And many PC users I've seen spit on Macs while never touching them, again their own ignorance.

Also I'm pretty sure Steve Jobs is anti-game from the articles I've read, despite him having a hand in Break-Out.

Well, it's a bit of both in the risk department: they still don't have blu-ray, but they were also the first company to ditch disk drives. And for music players, smartphones and tablets, they weren't so much the first ones in those fields, but they were arguably the first ones to get it right, more or less.

But altough I'm quite fond of macs, even I wouldn't recommend them for gamers

Someone already said: Mac games use Open GL not Direct X which is a Microsoft owned piece of software and which most games are designed around. There is a solution though, as again someone has already mentioned: Bootcamp.

Yeah because having that much solid aluminium and 90-whatever% recyclable materials is worth nothing...

Anyway I've been playing a lot of uplink on my mac lately, but asking that question around the escapist forums yields a lot of prejudice and non-advice.

Still, "Steam" is pretty useful here :)

Generally the only games you'll find on the mac are strategies. Presumably this is because they are less likely to be available on the consoles that us mac-users go to for games. That said, it doesn't really excuse the way that Total War has only just come out. Have a look at Feral if you're in need of a few more shooty endeavours, I seem to recall that they sorted out Bioshock a while back.

I wasn't aware that those materials enhanced the power of a unit, I'll have to start taping quarters to my tower.

Allow me to be blunt; It's because Mac's are expensive paperweights. They cost a shitload, the interface is embarrassingly awful, they're not remotely powerful compared to regular PC's and they're a ***** to program for. Does that answer your question?

I'll call in the car analogy: having a comfortable car that looks good en doesn't burn fuel like a battleship on fire doesn't make you go any faster, but that's really not the only thing that counts.

PC's are like tuned up rally cars: great for gaming, Macs are like Mercedeses: great for everything else, but rubbish for gaming. It's a choice.

Oh, and the top-of-the-line Mac Pro is like the new Mercedes SLR: great at everything, but cheaper than buying Sweden.

Try getting steam, they've made Portal, CSS and Half Life 2 (and it's Episodes) for the mac.

Those are just the popular ones, there are hundreds of Mac-friendly games on the mac for steam.

The Humble indie bundle, several Battlefield games and most Valve games are available for mac. It annoyed me while I was using one, but then I switched back to Windows 7.

Also, download Quinn. It's a free Tetris clone which will steal your soul.
