Macs for gaming. Fixed?/ Tech advice.

As some of you know, I am a huge TF2 fan, but don't have a good enough computer to run it. So I play on the ps3, and lemme tell you, NOTHING will piss you off more than a flying invincible Heavy that kills entire teams with his fists, and shouting lines that aren't in the console versions. Although it is kind of hilarious how 4 sentry guns waste all their ammo on him and he keeps floating and yelling "IS NOT POSSIBLE!" over and over again.

Also, Modern warfare 2 has become a sad excuse for fun, and many of my friends have decided to pack up their things, and join the PC master race of gamers.

I have not. BUT, my birthday is coming up, and after numerous pleas with my parents, I can get a whole new computer in my room. Hooray!

I am the least computer literate gamer on the planet, most people who have helped me in previous tech help threads thank you. But now, thats irrelevant. Instead of a better graphics card, or extra RAM (No idea what that is, but I understand its some kind of magic?) Its a whole new... thing. Computer. I don't know.

This past school year, the computer labs at the school I just left replaced all the dinosaur era computers with iMacs.

These things were COOL. Garage band already built in, webcam with a wide array of features, and there are apparently great for editing video's, which I always wanted to do, and make a whole series of dumb stuff, and have my on Phillip De Franco type show.

Speaking of him, I noticed in a recent video of his, he had Starcraft II running on his mac. And it looked like it was running pretty well. Now, I don't know why, but apparently, Macs are hated because they aren't gaming computers. Has that been fixed now? They have steam on them now. And the only games on pc I could see myself really getting into are, Sam and max games, which are mac compatible, Valve games, and maybe World of Warcraft, which I don't know if you can play on a mac. Can I get some confirmation on that?


I'd love to know the difference. The fate of my gaming future depends on it.

And please don't turn this into an attack apple thread. WE GET IT. The iPad is a useless piece of technology, we KNOW.

WoW definitely works on Macs. The most hardcore WoW gamers I know only play on Macs.

Going for windows for gaming is simply the best option, you can get a PC with equal specs of a mac for 840$ less than that of a machintosh.

Hell, if you could get someone who is good with computers to help you find parts for a custom-built PC it would save you even more money.

True if you have an old Mac mouse or are on a laptop, but all Macs come with a semi-two button weirdness. So it isn't the lack of the right mouse button that's the issue, it's the lack of the middle mouse button and two separate button-plates that makes it the weird experience. But you didn't really want to hear any of that so you can go along bashing Mac's old style mouse for comedy.

Just look up tutorials online on how to build a computer, it's very well worth your time. I did it, and I REGRET NOTHING.

Macs for gaming is a joke. Don't do it. They don't have that much power, cant upgrade them without throwing it out for an entirely new one, they don't like a lot of software/games, cost WAY to much when you can get a hell of a lot more power for the same price... Umm... that's just a short list I could get from the top of my head at 4 in the morning, I'll come back if i find any more reasons you shouldn't go near mac if you want a gaming computer.

Wow, $840? Thats a sweet deal. Is that just Ball parking it or is that a legitimate number? i have a huge tech guru for a neighbor, he could probably help me. I gave him my old ps3 when it broke, and he used it and another ps3 to make a SUPER MEGA PS3 RAWR! No idea if their is a difference between a regular ps3 and this... Mistake of nature.

To be clear, I would be getting a whole new thing, screen and router and everything. I don't even know if Macs have routers, I haven't seen one. I'm that bad.

From the experience I have using a Mac in school, I know its area sensitive. You can customize the mouse to where and what kind of clicks are on the mouse. But as someone said, the lack of wheel will be a re adjustment. I'v used one all my life, but I would be willing to learn.

well steam just came out for mac recently, there is always bootcamp, but then you need to buy a legit version of windows to run for bootcamp, then there is the cost difference you will be paying more for a mac because it is a mac, hell you could probably get a damn alienware gaming rig for the cost of a new mac, or you could save a few 100 bucks and get a decent pre built pc or save a bit more and build your own.

either way gaming is looking better for macs, but to get a full gaming experience you need a pc and a gaming mouse that has 6 or more buttons 2 button mice are so 90s. lest mac has gotten that far to their credit i frequently wanted to take a hammer to the one button mac mice.

I don't know what boot camp is. (I'm guessing its a program and I don't actually have to GO to boot camp?) I also don't know what alienware is.

Buying a Mac for "PC" gaming is pointless; they're horrendously expensive, will require you to use boot camp since you'll have to use Windows for a vast number of games, and their hardware is set so you can't update when you want.

It's about the equivalent of keeping your PS3, paying about a grand (at least) on top of that for no real reason and then throwing out all of your games and just watching films on it.

Get a PC built for you. Go to a small PC shop, say "I want a gaming PC within this price range" and they'll do it for you.

If your main goal with the computer is gaming, then don't get a Mac. I say this as an owner of a Macbook and a PS3.

Man, that takes me back. The only reason that I haven't exceeded that total is because you have to have actual buying intent to get a look at the prices of IBM System/z computers.

I just clicked on the link. Can I get that in lamens (SP) terms? I literally have no understanding as to what you were revealing. Your computer is worth a million? But through its options? I have no idea what your thread means. Also people are waiting on your thread. No idea why.
