I picked it up this afternoon for the PS3 and I really like it, I havent bought a Madden since 2003 tho. I really like the running game, the blocking you can get for runs sometimes is awesome!

Anyone else pick this up today?

Lets go Bucs!

But i wish luck to Drew Brees because the Madden Curse will strike him.

Curse? Bah! Bah, I tell you!

Also no I never buy anything from EA that doesn't have a BioWare stamp on it.

Ive said it before, Ill say it again. Someone needs to do something about the NFL license monopoly that EA has with madden. Its a good game, dont get me wrong, played it this afternoon, but honestly, without any sort of competition, EA gets away with releasing a game with basically nothing more than an updated roster with no new innovation, and charging 60$ a pop for it on a yearly basis.

Brilliant for EA... horrible for development and the betterment of football video games.

I won't pick it up unless it's 30$ or less. I just don't see paying any more than that for a madden game.

Let's hope he just has a bad season and not an injury.

They pay like 1.3 billion dollars every year for exclusive rights. You can't make an american football game, you'd be breaking the law.

I agree.. I was on the Madden ban for years, but playing NFL 2k5 on my old Xbox is getting boring. So I decided when I got my PS3 last October to wait for the new Madden.. and I am loving it.

I cant wait for the day where Madden isnt the only NFL game in town again and we dont have EA nickle and diming us for DLC/coins and crap like that

Ahh.. team sport games are the ultimate in player vs player action. I miss the old college days where we had Madden and NHL seasons running all semester long. Online is ok when you arent vs a tard who leaves if you start beating him, but playing vs friends or in a league is awesome fun

Well you can make a football game, you just cant include any team likenesses from the primary source of football in the US, nor can you use the names of the players tied to those teams. So any football game has to be tied to some other form of football, such as arena or collegiant. which inherently puts any sort of competition at a major disadvantage. (arena football being less popular, and collegiant football having high profile stars changing so frequently as they move to pro level)

What Im saying is, that it seems like even with paying over a billion for that right, that would have to fall under the jurisdiction of antitrust and anti competitive laws in the US.

Competition breeds innovation, anti competition breeds stagnation.

As much as I like sports, the NFL is just one league I don't care enough about.

If I ever get an NFL game, it's about two years outdated, because I don't want to pay much money for them.

dont get why they keep making new madden games they should just come out with one big one and constantly updating the roster and ocasionaly revampng the graphics but i guess the money wouldnt come in as much. madden 06-09 were the best tho

But it is a business deal between EA and the NFL so it isn't like it is EA just forcing people out of the market, they are paying a substantial amount to acquire that exclusivity. I don't really get why though at this point would they lose more if they stopped buying the rights, I wonder.

Well you might be right, but consider in 2004, before EA obtained the license, their two closest competitors were NFL2k, and Gameday... both of which abandoned making further installments after EA bought that right.

You are right however, EA has such a dominance over NFL football, that they really dont need the NFL franchise rights anymore. However I speculate part of the reason they keep on it is simply to eliminate any possibility of another competitor rearing its head and draining sales away from them. Which honestly in my book is the epitome of anti competitive.

I mean it took a law to break up the phone companies in the 80s. They tried to do the same thing with microsoft (and yes conspiracy theorists say that MS propped up apple for no other reason than to break antitrust litigation legitimacy) Just like the game, Monopoly is only really fun for the person whos got all the money.

Needless to say.. Ill buy madden 2011... in about 2-3 years when I can get it used for 1.99

See where you are running into a problem with your argument is Phones and operating systems are not imperative but are pretty important to live your life at this point in time but Madden 2011 is not something you need to do your job or function as a member of society. Games are luxuries and very optional considering the initial (system of choice) investment. Only a gamer will take an issue with this product but with a utility a monopoly harms the national economy.
