On my own forums I'm prone to posting reviews of all of the games that I play, and since this forum happens to have its own section for user reviews, maybe I would post some of them here. I try to keep these as objective as possible, but if they seem a bit biased, they probably are. I know what games I like, so you might as well take these reviews with a grain of salt. I'm not intense hatred or blind loving, but like I said, there may be a bit of bias. I have my own rating system that I use and if you don't understand feel free to PM me and I'll explain it to you.

I've been putting off this review for a while despite my desire to do it, I've just been busy. MadWorld was a super fun game for me and possibly one of the best Wii games I've played. How good was it, exaclty? Read the review to find out, ugly head.

The box art has been criticized by...well, critics...for not providing anything to hook consumers. While it leaves a bit to be desired, I fail to see how a guy leaping through the air with a chainsaw arm doesn't hook consumers.

Story: With MadWorld being such an action and gameplay centered game, you would never expect it to have an interesting storyline, if one at all, yet you get the complete opposite. The story is written by whoever did the Final Fantasy games' storylines, and it shows. You play a Jack, an ex-marine sent into a city that's been barricaded by terrorists so that they can force the prisoners inside of the city to compete in a Running Man-like game of kill or be killed. Jack has other motives for being there, though, and the story ends up being very interesting and plot-twisty, and it's all pulled together by unique and very interesting boss characters. Imagine the bosses from No More Heroes but multiplied by 1,000 awesomeness. The story can, however, get confusing at times and towards the end the focus really shifts away from Jack, which is saddening.
8/10

Yes, very interesting boss characters. :D

Graphics and Sound: If right now you know nothing about MadWorld's unique graphical style, then you are an idiot. The game is entirely in black and white, with the exception of the color red for blood, as well as yellow for sound effects and green for later enemies, and it all pulls together nicely. The graphics themselves aren't very sharp, but they're made up for with lots of style. The soundtrack is entirely original hip hop all of the way, and it works really well for the game, as do the commentators that ramble on in the background while telling anal sex jokes and making fun of their ex-wives. The sound effects are also well done and squishy. :)
4.5/5

The graphics have a Sin City feel to them as Jack traverses this hall of blood.

Gameplay: The gameplay in MadWorld truly stands out above most games on any other system. They're incredibly innovative, and you know that Platinum Games knew exactly what they were doing from the minute they set out on this project. The Wii controls are used often but no overdone, and when they are used they are used so just right. The motions feel very responsive and aren't overused. There's a HUGE variety of weapons in the game to choose from and very unique point scoring system based on minigames and creative combos. The minigames are creative and skillfully mix up the gameplay, as do the boss battles, but issues with the camera often get in the way.
19/20

The Black Baron introduces every BloodBath challenge that mixes up the gameplay.

Entertainment: I'll admit it, the game is short; only about 9 or 10 hours. However, these 9 or 10 hours will be very entertaining, trust me. The concept is very original, but the game is also made more interesting by the crazy characters, the insane style, the excessive violence and the swearing commentators. The game also features unlockables that you get from beating the game, and you can go back and play any level that you want at any time, or you can compete against your friend in BloodBath challenges. Everytime an area gets boring or you get tired of killing a certain type of enemy, the game gives you a brand new type of area with its own enemies, bosses and weapons. Every level also has a high score that you can attain and the compete to keep.
13.5/15

Ninjas. Yes, you will fight ninjas.

Multiplayer: As mentioned earlier, you can compete in 11 BloodBath challenges with a friend, but they do get old after just a bit. There's no online mode (not even leader boards. C'mon).
+1

Overall I'd say that if you have a Wii, then you have to buy MadWorld. It's really that simple. Do it.

First off nice review!

Now to the critisim! While I didnt really like the choise of using bright red letters to review a game, they very well organized and the ideas are very clear.

But the numeric system you use seems abit...strange and different from the typical system.

Whoops, I somehow posted this twice. If one of the topics could be deleted that would be great.
One will be locked if you PM a mod. Also I realized at the time of posting, all your posts relate to Mad World :p.
That's cause I just joined and I only joined because I really didn't understand Yahtzee's MadWorld review at all. :p

The different numbered amounts for each category are based on importance. For example, graphics and sound only are worth five points (10% of the final score) because a game doesn't need good graphics to accomplish being a good game, but it does need good controls and gameplay (which is why gameplay is worth 40% of the final score). Entertainment is second highest because i consider it to be how fun the game is and how long it lasts before you get bored of it. And story is self explantory.

Also, guys, sorry about the red lettering. On my forum the skin is dark gray and the red contrasts nicely, but here it doesn't work so well. But it would be tedious to remove it before posting if I was just copying and pasting from my forum. Still, I'll keep it in mind for next time and spend some more time doing that. ;)

Firstly, welcome to the Escapist. This review is substantially better than most first reviews, so you essentially get a "free-pass" in my book. Heck, most first timers don't even spell check. Just keep in mind that this review was, infact, above average in general.

I'd really, really encourage you to drop the sub-headings. I also think that you should drop the numerical score, but you seem to have put some effort into figuring out your own system, so whatever. When you have sub-headings, it really hurts the flow of any review, but when you use sub-headings and then use scores directly after each paragraph, it totally eliminates flow.

In addition, I thought the red text and large pictures made it a bit of a chore to read. The red kinda matches MadWorld, I guess, but I'd still say that black & white is best.

I'd also like to mention that the review is just a little bit short. You've limited yourself to only one paragraph per topic, which isn't enough for some sections.

Lastly, the humor works in some spots, but in others it just put me off. Example:

I don't get it. Is it funny to insult your readers? You're writing for an audience here. There are tons of casuals who play video games, and none of them have even heard of MadWorld, let alone seen gameplay of it. Do you not want them to read your review?

I truly do hope to see more of your stuff. Like I said, this is far better than many first reviews. Most of what I've said here is opinion (save that last bit about 'insulting your readers'), so you can ignore it if you choose. Whatever you decide, keep writing.

Firstly, welcome, and thanks for the review, I did enjoy it... however..

you didn't mention the game camera... which sucks ass at times.

you didn't mention the bike sections... they mostly suck ass.

You didn't mention that when you take out the bike sections, and the boss fights, there's not really that many fun levels left to play, like 3 or 4?

Apart from that, good review of a pretty good game. Definitely one of the more fun and interesting Wii games out there.

I agree with a lot of the good reviews for the most part... but I was honestly a bit disappointed in the long run with the game...

You have to remember that this is his review of it, so he may not have found some things as annoying as you did. I do agree that it's probably not a good thing to neglect mentioning some of the game's flaws, though. Reviews (objective ones, at least) are meant to explain what a game is, how it works, what's good and bad about it, and ultimately, if it's worth purchasing. He did state that he might've been slightly biased, as almost every reviewer is, which might explain why he didn't cover them.

And a good review, by the way. Maybe not insult your audience as much, but other than that, it's quite nice. In fact, I feel kinda ashamed of using this topic to advertise my MadWorld review [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.104389] for the purpose of getting criticism on how to improve my reviews (aside from not advertising them.)
