This isn't exactly a review, but it's related to MadWorld, it's something I took lots of time to write and it's not something that I think really belongs anywhere else. Hopefully you'll enjoy it.
Every once in a while I'll do a video game review when I finish beating a game, which usually means that there are games to play. Right now there are no games to play because instead of releasing titles after Christmas when no one else is doing it (thus less competition) all of the developers release their big titles in November. So now we have a dry spell on our hands, and I'm sitting here
with my dick in my hands not masturbating, and I have nothing to do.
So here's the deal, I'm going to try something new, something that I'll do every once in a while when I feel like doing a review but don't know what exactly needs reviewing. It's a Character Faceoff, and the title is pretty self explanatory. I'll take two characters (or maybe more!) from similar games and compare them, deducing which of the two would win if a fight were to occur.
Without further ado, this time's faceoff:
VS
Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes) vs Jack Cayman (MadWorld)
For those of you who don't know what MadWorld or No More Heroes are, allow me to direct you to my [http://z4.invisionfree.com/Castle_Muffonious/index.php?showtopic=431] reviews [http://z4.invisionfree.com/Castle_Muffonious/index.php?showtopic=334]. Hopefully those will give you a good idea of what these games are all about. If you still don't get it, I can sum it up with a few words: BLOOD. STYLE. TITS. Both games are over the top, violent titles for the Wii, and both use the Wii controls quite well. Because of their similar concepts and the fact that both of them feature a great main character, I decided that these games' main characters would be the focus of this faceoff.
Travis is a young douchebag type of a kid, a bit of a poser, if you wanna say that. He's into nerdy things like bidding for laser swords on eBay and watching anime. He becomes a more likeable character as the game progresses, and he can hold his own in a fight, surprisingly enough. Though he has no background experience, he wins a beam katana on an internet auction and decides to kill someone, and ends up in a tangle with the world's 11th best assassin. He kills him and get thrown into this crazy situation where he decides to climb to the top number 1 spot and become the world's best assassin so he can have sex with this woman who works for the assassin's assosciation. That's more or less Travis Touchdown's story in a nutshell.

Jack Cayman, on the other hand, is a hardened ex-marine, ex-homocide detective, and later on in MadWorld you find out that he's and ex-something else that turns out to be more badass than both of those things combined. He's sent into the blockaded Varrigan City to infiltrate the DeathWatch game and find those responsible for it. He also has some business that he himself must take care of that is revealed to us a bit later in the game. He's so badass that from the second he's in DeathWatch he punches out some punk and instantly gets himself a sponsor.
Jack likes blood.
Right then, onto weapons and equipment, I suppose. As mentioned earlier, Travis Touchdown is equipped with a beam katana that he won on an internet auction. While it's not quite like a lightsaber (it doesn't cut through everything it touches immediately) it still starts out as a good weapon that can kill after several hits, and you can also get the scientist named Naomi to upgrade it for you. She also makes several different models of the beam katana, each of which is better than the last. One of these katanas has four lasers on it, which obviously would be considerably helpful...for some reason. It also runs on a battery that runs out after it's used too much, which requires Travis to recharge it, leaving him vulnerable for several seconds. However, eventually you get a beam katana that doesn't need to be recharged. The beam katana also has a treasure detector built into the hilt, but that really has no relevance in a fight. This isn't to say that Travis is useless without his weapon. His master, Thunder Ryu, an ex professional wrestler and member of the Yakuza, teaches him wrestling moves such as suplexes and hurricanranas, all of which he can utilize in combat against a stunned enemy to do massive damage. He can also do this to bosses! He also has a bike/scooter thing called the Schpeltiger. It's slightly klunky to control, and falls over if you hit so much as a pebble, but it can do wheelies and jump and has a turbo mode where you can drive much faster. Unfortunately, Travis has no fighting experience while atop the Schpeltiger.
Travis on the Schpeltiger.
Jack Cayman, on the other hand, is a straight up fighter who's not afraid to use his fists and brute force. He'll spend alot of time pummeling enemies to a killable state with his fists and stomach kicks, and he also possesses sheer strength that allows him to out strength a minotaur-like creature and shove sign posts through people's heads. His sponsor also provides him with weapons like baseball bats, katanas and spears if he gets enough points from killing his enemies, all of which he can use expertly to chop his enemies to bits and send them flying, or maybe make a human-kabob. Oh, did I mention he has a retractable chainsaw built into his arm? Yeah, he has one of those, too. The chainsaw he has will usually kill any regular human in one hit, as you would expect it to, but zombies and bigger bosses pose more of a problem for him. The chainsaw has to run on gasoline though, and there's only about 5 seconds worth of it in there, after which the chainsaw will not work. Luckily, the fuel replenishes itself over time, so Jack can defend himself with the aforementioned sign posts until then. Also, the hand that the chainsaw is built into is mechanical, and therefore the punches that he delivers with it are extra strong and capable of sending enemies flying. To counter Travis' Schpeltiger, Jack has his motorcycle, which he frequently rides in the game and fights enemies in little death buggies while driving. It also has a turbo feature which allows it to have short bursts of super speed. It would be interesting to see the results if Travis and Jack met on their bikes.
See? The strength to shove a sign post through a man's head!
But none of the weapons matter much if the character doesn't have the balls and skills to use them, right? So let's compare what each character has accomplished in their time. Travis Touchdown uses his beam katana to climb to the top of the ranked assassins ladder, and ends up killing the top 11 assassins in the world by himself. Well, one of them is killed by someone else, but still! He dispatches goons on a regular basis, some who even use guns. Jack has also dispatched legions of minions including zombies, werewolves, thugs, ninjas, aliens, and stormtrooper-like space guys. No matter how tough all of Travis' opponents were, all of them were still human, but not Jack's. Not exactly. He's beaten giants, a vampire, telekinetic beings and massive robots, plus much more. Travis' enemies use unique weapons, skilled fighting styles and sometimes magic, while Jack's use brute strength in some cases and special powers in others. Both of their enemies are very over the top, but in the games, Travis' enemies are far more difficult.
No More Heroes' bosses may not look like much, but each of them is probably tougher than the hardest MadWorld boss. For reals.
So what does this all come down to? Both characters are violent, both have killed hundreds, both have great weapons but with their own flaws. Travis is slightly younger, but Jack is more experienced. Jack is stronger, but one could argue that strength isn't a factor when beam katanas and chainsaws are being flung about. Both have conquered insurmountable odds and have defeated numerous insane bosses. So again, what does this all come down to? The winner is...
Jack Cayman!
Why did I pick Jack? It's quite simple, really; he's beaten tons of inhuman enemies, he has more experience, a more deadly weapon, and he's very flexible with what he considers a weapon, exactly. If Jack's chainsaw ran out of gas suddenly and Travis lost his beam katana, Jack would have the know-how and the strength to slam a tire around him, shove a sign post through his head and throw him onto a rose bush. Either that or Travis might have to recharge his beam katana and Jack would just run up and chainsaw him in half.
Either way, both games are fantastic, they are both stylish and violence, and they both utilize the Wii controls very well. You can't even do a Google image search for one game without finding stuff related to the other game as well. They work so great together, and this was all just perfect for a faceoff. Hope you enjoyed it, and if you want, you can give me suggestions for my next faceoff, whenever I do one.
