Lots of my friends used to play but only two of us still do now. I have an all white deck which has a sort of tribal thing going on with soldiers (Captain of the Watch from M10 is awesome), but has a fair few Clerics and Angels too *cough*Akroma*cough*Baneslayer Angel*cough*. We basically say that any thing goes when it comes to editions and expansions. I'm still using the 7th edition Longbow Archers because they still can hold their own.

I stopped playing because it was getting expensive to continue playing in tourneys. my friends still play and it seems like a lot of fun, but nothing has really caught my eye like Ravinca did. Ravinca was my favorite set by far. later sets didn't really appeal to me at all.

MTG is like riding a bike, you can pick it up after not playing for a long time.

I went to a Magic/Warhammer club thing, was pretty cool (really expensive though) I was never very good though, my decks were always too big.

EDIT: Ohhhh look at that 1000 posts, yay!

I first got MTG cards in 3rd/4th grade and I learned how to play in 6th grade. I never played seriously that often and had the bad fortune to only go to tournaments that involved getting random cards and making a deck. This sucked because said deck ALWAYS sucks and the winner only wins with luck.

My favorite bit was building decks, fun stuff.

When I first got cards, Mercadian Masques was the big thing, oooooold school~

I loved that back in 6th and 7th grade there was a Magic the Gathering club with like 30+ members at my middle school, it was quite awesome :)

My two favorite decks were my elf deck and my burn deck (which is just about unbeatable from my experience)

It IS fairly expensive, so maintaining a T2 deck that is powerful and functional is taxing... anyways I've said my part, go on~

Started just as Beta was running out and still have a couple of "sink holes" to my name. Played at a gaming shop mainly with one friend who loved games like the original Starcraft i.e. space accountancy and hence took to it like the proverbial duck. He beat the fun out of it a bit often taking the cards in the loo with him to study them more and so had a highly honed, albeit smelly, deck which nearly always soundly beat me.

Playing we arrived at venues with bigger and bigger containers for the library, until the time we were hauling small suitcases with us. My favourite set was legends and I gave up around the time that tournament rules ruled them out. I saw the writing on the wall then, which stated to keep playing you had to continually to spend money, serious money and I felt that was enough lining US fat cat's pockets.

My Favourite deck of all time was my Stasis deck which played along the lines of, get yourself mashed up badly until reaching critical mass, then shutting the opponent down like a cockroach infested burger bar and hoping your tricks didn't run out before his life points, Yikes!

/sigh those long fun days of no commitments.

:)

I play actively now although I don't go to tournaments or anything (mainly 'cos I'm a terrible player), I have a couple of good decks which my cousin helped me make but I can never get them to work, which might be because the kind of decks I play against, ie. my cousins, are the kind which deal 500+ damage on turn 3 or 4...

I hate dragons.
