I think it's very possible and that it would be a great idea.

The way special effects work these days...

Just remove the card game basis and keep the characters and mythology and then set it in our world... or "plane" I guess would be a better word. Yeah that would be the plot. Nicol Bolas (one of the main antagonists) would find his way into our plane, see all the advancement (because besides all the living machinery the other planes don't really have anything on Earth's technology) and think "yeah I'd love to rule here." He sets out to do so, we fight him, he uses his powers to summon whatever monsters he wants to fight us, then the good guys (good planeswalkers) show up. While they fight, one of the main characters from Earth gets caught in a normally-fatal accident because of the fighting and instead of dying his/her spark (what makes him/her a planeswalker) activates. That's basically a rough outline of what it could be.

What do you guys think? Would you see it?

Probably not, I'd rather watch a cardgame. Then again I suffer from a little sister syndrome where I wasn't allowed to play in the tournaments my big brother hosted so I would just watch. Then again it also depends on what demographic you want to sell it to. If it's little kids you can get away with a cardgame with no rules and a plot full of holes (look at yugioh) if you want something older you have to steal the name and do something completely different that just touches with the key points enough to have the title make sense (like what you said, and transformers).

Each set in the card game has it's own mythos though. They'd have to pick a set's mythology to base it around, like the Rise of Eldrazi.

I think they would try to hard to get a western copy of Yu-Gi-Oh and 14-year-olds screaming at each other....well see the dog picture.

Don't get me wrong: I LOVE the card game, that's why I don't wanna see it as a film. I just don't think it would work.

There is soooooo much to the story of M:TG that unless you knew everything and everyone in the entire series, you'd be completely lost. Or they'd adjust things to make a movie story possible and throw the people that do know it all into frothing fits. It just wouldn't be worth it for anybody.

Wouldn't be a good movie.
There are certain things I love, but I will admit they wouldn't make a good movie.
