The Halo series. They're fun to play and the universe is pretty deep and engaging thanks to its expanded universe.

Red Dead Redemption. Easily one of the best games I've ever played and one of my all time favorites.

The first modern warfare was my guilty pleasure mainstream game. I normally don't get into those kinds of FPS', preferring to stick to a more TF2 kind of game. But, on a whim, I borrowed CODMW from a friend and played through the campaign and was actually very pleasantly surprised by the story, especially the ending how everything more or less got swept under the rug. It produced one of those "my god... what if..." moments in me.

Sadly the second modern warfare didn't do it for me, and the black ops campaign just became another bland story about super badass "amurica"

If you haven't gotten around to playing it yet... just don't.

I know it is my opinion but the game is so painfully over simplified it surpasses dull and becomes bad.

I'm not one to complain about a game being too easy, but seriously. It was sooo damn easy.

Dragon Age: Origins.

It's got its flaws, but there's not a game I've played in the past year that has utterly consumed my life like DAO. Even when I'm hating the game, I'm loving the game.

The first Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War, with all its expansions. It was imbalanced as heck and not as professional as Starcraft, but I wasted many an hour / day / week with my hallmates in college doing free for alls or comp stomps. In between battles we would show off our custom armies. With the Firestorm Over Kronos mod, many of us still play it on weekends!

I just finished Bulletstorm, is f***ing ace. So much murder, so many ways to do so.

You know what, nevermind. I find the term "mainstream" game way too vague to properly answer this question. All I do know is that I love certain popular games that get a lot of hate in gaming enthusiast circles.
