Several voice clips of major characters have been found within the data files suggesting that a large part of the final mission was cut from the game.

Looking at the leaked script, it seems like they were also planning (in early stages at least) to have an UI (user interface) where we would be assigning our War Assets during the battle, Suicide Mission-style:

CUTSCENE:
A second Reaper fleet arrives in orbit of Earth. Harvesters start launching from the Reapers, and descend towards earth in a massive swarm.

Conversation:

Shepard / Hackett / Anderson decide to move quickly to organize a defense to hold off the Reapers in orbit from reaching the Citadel and to keep the Harvesters away from the London facility.

GUI:

Hammer resolution: summary of performance of the Hammer striketeam and casualty report.

Shield planning: assign strike teams for orbital and planetary operations to defend against the Reaper counterattack.
More supporting evidence for a scrapped larger ending is found in an early response from one of the major writers of the game series.

The endgame doesn't have that. I wanted to see banshees attacking you, and then have asari gunships zoom in and blow them away. I wanted to see a wave of rachni ravagers come around a corner only to be met by a wall of krogan roaring a battle cry. Here's the horror the Reapers inflicted upon each race, and here's the army that you, Commander Shepard, made out of every race in the galaxy to fight them.
I have NO IDEA why these different cutscenes aren't in there. As far as I know, they were never cut. Maybe they were cut for budget reasons at the last minute. I don't know. But holy crap, yeah, I can see how incredibly disappointing it'd be to hear of all the different ending possibilities and have it break down to "which color is stuff glowing?" Or maybe they ARE in, but they're too subtle to really see obvious differences, and again, that's...yeah.

Well 2 things. First of all, this isn't really new info. Maybe the specifics are new, but not the fact that there are lots of left overs hiding in the files.

Second and more important point: You know how many games have some kind of content that doesn't make it in the final product or has its design changed at some point or another? All of them.

And not just games, either; this happens with all media. After all, that's what deleted scenes and alternate endings on DVDs are.

Considering Bioware's "woodwork" is about as effective as placing a 2X4 over a river and asking cars to drive over it............ I am not surprised stuff fell through.

This is so true it's sad. I find it really hard to believe that half of Bioware's leaks are accidents.

That's the kind of thing I wanted. Hell, I figured we would assign the fleets suicide mission style. They did such a good job with that in ME 2. Why they wouldn't expand on it for the next game is beyond me.

I was not aware of this, and I'm now very mad. I just dont get it, they literally had it perfect on what kind of ending I would've been happy with (Choosing to deploy your assests etc) and they just chucked it out the window for seemingly no reason?

Your last two quotes disappoint me to no end what that poor writer was describing was EXACTLY what I was hoping for in the final battle. Such a god damned shame.

I feel almost as bad for him that his work was squandered like that... without his knowledge, even.

Although those bits of dialogue would have added a fair amount to the final mission the ending is still nonsensical and just outright stupid.

Just more proof that the game was rushed.

Like KoTOR2, a game of this scope SHOULD NOT have been given only 2 years to be made (1 year for KoTOR2).
