I read an article about that a few hours ago, apparently the hackers targeted him. I don't see why they do something like that. It's illogical.

Hacking gives these people a purpose in life. If we take that away, we're no better than them.

Please, think of the children.

OP: how is this guy's method of passing the time till we're all dead any less meaningful than yours?

I refer to the "get a life" comment, of course. I thought better of leaving you to figure out why I'm asking.

Sure its his choice in life but theres passing time ... and then theres being a dick doing it .. to either pull this off he must have some skills or get extremly lucky in guessing a password, so if he does have the skills why not put them to better use or if hes just simply guessing a password for hours ... really?

Here we are again. Same problem - your opinion on what a good use of time is is not the be-all and end-all on the subject.

Perhaps this guy feels there IS no "better" use of his skills. Perhaps he prefers messing around to "better" pursuits. Or perhaps there is no "better" and you're the dick for acting like anyone who doesn't think like you is doing it wrong?

So let me get this straight - are you supporting what the hacker is doing? Are you saying it's okay for him to do that shit? Why are you defending him in the first place?

Hacking someone's account is not okay. It's never okay. There is no logical way around it.

Mmkay, well I was referring to hacking someone's Bebo or Facebook or PSN or Live account or even their bank accounts, Steam, Battle.net, things of that nature. It is simply wrong to hack someone else's account. Nobody deserves to have their account hacked. Period. The hacker in the video needs to get a life. And you need help.

That being said, I can't tell if you're being serious or not. Okay, so I said logical when I in fact meant moral. Alright then. Lend me your divine thesaurus so I won't make the same mistake again, oh great pseudo-intellectual one. Allow me the chance to improve mine own writing skills so that I might never again write anything unless it's strictly literal all of the time. I bow down to you, oh almighty, arrogant living thesaurus, oh amazingly pedantic king of the English language.

Enjoy your (illogical) rage.

Illogical? How is it ILLOGICAL? You bad, bad man! Go shoot yourself for using the word "illogical" in the apparently wrong context! You silly, silly man!

This is sheer stupidity in a can, duct taped to a package of bollocks!

First and foremost, there are a million logical reasons to hack accounts.
White hats do it all the time, for money.
Black hats do it all the time, for fame.
Gray hats do it all the time, to increase our understanding of security and generate new and novel ways to break established bounds.

All of these reasons are, strictly speaking, completely logically valid.
For the sake of argument, even the simplest reason to do it ("because we can") is still logically valid. You might want to crack open a book on logic, read up on first order logic, and then shoot yourself when you realize there is a difference between morality and logic.

Second, how is it not "ok"? Hacking things improved everyone.
It improves the person that did it, by allowing their skills to improve.
It improves the person hacked, by forcing them to confront a fundamental truth ("your shit is mine" and "people are assholes") and tighten their belts.
It improves security by allowing holes to be filled and new techniques rendered.
It improves society, by showing us what to do and what not to do.

From a moral stand point, any detriment to the individual is absorbed by the overwhelming benefit to society as a whole, and therefore it can be logically assessed that people pushing boundaries and find ways to break rules is essentially the most "good" thing someone can do.

I, for one, stand behind this hacker 120%! His courageous actions have done more to further society than your pathetic misunderstanding of logical reasoning. Therefore, I think it is perfectly ok for him to do it.

I may not believe in his reasoning or in what he does, but I will fight to the death for his right to do so!
ok this actually makes sense to me... i mean out of that little hack maybee there could be new security measures added to xbox 360 accounts. However i still think that its wrong to hack, your explanition does make sense. i also kind of imagained some uplifiting patriotic music playing and a flag floating behind you as i read the end of this, but wow good times.

Whether or not hacking is acceptable is not the issue. What I'm saying is the person I quoted needs to realize his way of life is not the only meaningful one. He says "get a life" and then "put [the skills] to better use". His - the person I quoted - opinion is not the ultimate truth on what we should all do with our lives. What he considers worthwhile could very well be considered a waste of time by someone else. In fact, considering he's a member of this site, I imagine he plays video games, and I'm sure no one considers those a waste of time that could be "better" spent elsewhere.

OK according to this i dont have a personal opinion i have fascist take over planned to make everyone think like i do, and seriously if i just thought i was perfectly right why would i ask

"your thoughts?"

Also proved earlier that i was taking peoples opinions into account Ururu117 made sense and i responded to it. Yes doing it may have its benifits but i still think its wrong what they did and it still dosent change my PERSONAL opinion on the matter. Also as you proved yourself

"I imagine he plays video games, and I'm sure no one considers those a waste of time that could be "better" spent elsewhere."

yes they have a PERSONAL opinion of that they also say thier views ... then they move on.

Am I the only one who thought of I Dream of Jeannie?

Also, stop defending people who choose to spend their time invading people's personal information and accounts.

If your chosen form of amusement is based upon the misfortune of others then you need to get a life.
We don't defend bullies in school or power tripping management staff in businesses, and its for a damn good reason. Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. I'm not a religious individual by any stretch of the imagination but this has got to be the one moral which I truly believe the whole world needs to follow.

For a second there I Major Nelson confused with my good buddy Admiral Nelson.

It makes more sense now that I've watched the video.

Meh. Why should we care? So some stupid, bored teenager hacked some other person account. Whee. I fail to see how this is worthy of our attention? I'm sure we have all heard/read about more impressive hacks in our time. This guy is hardly deserving of my respect, especially when he pulled off a simple, 2-bit hack.

Now the guy that hacked the Pentagon way back, HE deserves my respect. Not this stupid white prick.
