If you could add a new class to TF2, what would you create?
For example, I would want paladin-like class, with healing and defense skills.

You mean a medic? :p

TF2 already has all the basic archetypes and they're in a pretty delicate balance so not sure I'd like to see a new one.

I don't think adding a new class to TF2 would be very good for balance. That game is like a work of art, it's so perfectly set up.

Still, I'd like to think it would be fun to have a "Tribal" class, somebody who would throw spears, wield a hatchet, and use battle cries that boost his teammates and/or demoralize his enemies. He'd be kiiind of similar to the soldier I guess, but it could still be interesting.

1. They don't balance weapons NEARLY enough. Wasn't the beta supposed to fix that? And yet the Shogun weapons were just thrown out?

2. We have a tribal class. The sniper. Tribalman's shiv, anyone? Bow and arrow?

3. Adding a new class would un-balance it, obviously.

4. An assault rifle class would be interesting to see in TF2. The closest we have is the SMG and with its wide spread, it's definitely nowhere near a primary weapon.

or

Minecraft. Not like, the character or a mob. Just... Minecraft. Everything needs 125% more minecraft.

or

PONIES! WHY NOT? GO, FLUTTERSHY!!!

Auras are always fun. Steal the D2 Paladin structure? Offensive Aura (which comes in the form of a totem pole or something you can melee with), Defensive Aura (which is a more damaging blade than the blunt pole of the OA) and Damage skills (extremely ranged splash? Magic Missile?).

Anyway, different totem poles/spellblades/magic gloves(?) would give you different auras. Immolation aura would be fun...

I'm pretty sure the next addition will be a Portal Gun based class.

Soldier has Auras covered; damage boost aura, damage reduction aura, and health regen aura.

I'd like to change my previous opinion because I want to see those bastard scouts and pyros who appear out of nowhere behind me fall into a portal and
come out on the moon.

Okay, fair enough. I forgot about the sniper.

I'm actually glad TF2 doesn't have an assault rifle class. I feel like if they did have it everyone would choose it.

Can't say I'd be all that pleased with it. The versatility and accuracy over longer ranges alone would encourage player to pick it and spend the game sniping each other from a distance rather than getting into the other guy's face.

I'd say the TF2 classes already available are more than enough variability. We wouldn't want to cross into MMORPG territory, would we?

An armored Dog.

175HP, speed between medic/scout.

Main weapon: jump-biting, like the hunter from L4D, but making the victim fall.
Secondary/support: a alarm-bark that tag an ennemy for 10 sec, making him visible by the allied team, even trough walls.
Thrid weapon: metal claws.

Alternative for the main: bite the leg of an ennemy and don't let go as long as you're attaking, stunning him and inflicting continuous damage.
Alternative second: a surprise bark that make the ennemy lose half of his ammo - this attack must be done in the back of the victim.

Personally, I'm partial to that old fake Dog class. It just looked like it'd be fun.
EDIT: Ninja'd by the Croc. Wow.

Try as hard as I can I just can't think of anything that would mesh well. The game really does cover all the bases pretty well. Any time I think I wish this class had this I realize it would be to compensate for me being bad at the class, not that the class needs it.

Really, the game is pretty well balanced. A real feat considering all the available weapons.
