Hello fellow Escapists!

I had a funny idea and thought I wanted to share it. This is a suggestion box thread on Science, and what we're going to do is make suggestions as to what we think Science should invent next.

Now remember, Science can be many things and does not necessarily include space and robots! It could be a cake that walks into your mouth, all on its own! The oppertunities are many!

So what's your suggestion(s), to Science?
[sub]Doesn't matter how far out there it is! Just throw them in here, and share them![/sub]

For Science!

As for me? I'd love some micro-cookies that could substitute a whole meal. About the size of a quarter (coin) should do it!

The Holodeck.

Right now. It is basically the kinect with force feedback, so we can do it... Somehow...

A Call of Duty game with a good story. We may need our best researchers...

I'd say robot trousers, and cars with Doc Oc tentacles instead of wheels.

Sorry, the only way to get a "space elevator" is to have the space station (or moon) in a geosyncronus orbit (always above the same spot on the earth). Since the moon is not in one of these orbits, a direct link is impossible.

Unless you meant quantum tunnelling...

A national spaceplane.

The current methods of deployment into space are quite expensive in terms of materials, looking at European, American, Russian and Japanese payload devices, and the Buran and NASA space shuttles don't have much longer until retirement. The Ares I launch vehicle is like many of the models of rockets before it, made into disposable compartments which fall away and burn up.
It would be better, in my opinion, to have a vehicle much like a transport aircraft, which could fly by conventional means to high altitudes before only needing a smaller rocket system to carry it the rest of the way to near and outer space.

A more energy-efficient form of clean electrolysis. For clean hydro-electric production.
Barring that, a controllable fusion reactor.

Mad Science: Role-Centric-hybrid genetics to usher in an era of fascist rule (see if you can guess the source).

We could invent a giant cannon shooting us there. If we had a ginormous cushion to recieve the bullet, in a crater or something! That would be awesome.

That could work...

The only problem is to get the plane up high enough the air would be super thin. Of course then the rocketship could take over. Although I don't know about the fuel needed to get up high enough versus blasting off from the ground...

Didn't we try that in the 20s and 30s? And how would you get back?

That would be pretty awesome though.

Intergalactic space travel

And with America stopping the financing of space travel the chance of intergalactic space travel is very slim anytime soon.

Many concepts for spaceplanes are Spaceplane/Rocket hybrids. Think the Concorde supersonic plane, plus spaceshuttle style boosters which fall away, mounted under the wings. They automatically fire at like 40,000 feet, then fall away when spent. Heck, they could even be reusable.
Imagine it: the space program, 100% recyclable.

Nah man, Jules Verne only toyed with the idea I reckon! Easy, we'll build another cannon on the moon to shoot us back! Simple.
