combining the best features of all the released FF games. For me a simple concoction would be a mixture of FFXII's combat system, side quests (hunts FTW), and open worldness, FFXIII's graphics, and how each character acquires and uses Espers/Eidolons/summons, FFIX's story and characters, and FFXII's music (strangely its the first one I played years back but its the only one I can remember the music to).

Go.

Actually, your idea is pretty spot-on...
I always wanted another full-out Ivalice game like XII.
Or a sequel to IX, supported by the fact that an executive would approve of it:

Replacing every character with an avatar made of interchangeable fruits. Somehow, it would work.

I'd be satisfied if they just went back to turn-based combat, dropped voice acting and put someone other than Tetsuya Nomura on character designs. Everything else is golden.

FFXII's setiing, FFX's gameplay, FFVI's characters, FFVII's music, and FFXIII's visual prowess. Like many people, I didn't like FFXII that much, but I thought the setting was awesome.

Final Fantasy VI scenarios
Final Fantasy V/Tactics combat, OR a XIII battle system that allows for more control
Final Fantasy Tactics story and AI
Final Fantasy XIII graphics, art direction(sans clothing), and character depth
Final Fantasy VII customizability

Directed by Yasumi Matsuno, music created by Nobuo Uematsu and Yasunori Mitsuda

A combination of VII's materia and XIII's crystarium would be pretty awesome for customization. The job system is cool and tactical and all, but it's nice to have only awesome characters in your party that can all do awesome shit.

Everything else would be from IV, VI, VII, and IX. Maybe even X.

FFX's combat
FFVI's characters/story
FFVIII's junction (minus draw)
FFVII or FFVI's magic acquisition
Maybe FFIX's item based skill system

For me, making the perfect Final Fantasy would involve a Blend-tec Total Blender and a nice old man with a hilarious smile who tells me not to breathe things. I just don't like that series, and it would require so many changes to turn it into something I like that it wouldn't really be Final Fantasy anymore and should just be given a new name and be treated as new IP.

But if I have to say one thing that would at least improve it a little, either go back to sprites or learn how to make women who look like women and men who look like men. That FF13 thing that has big boobs but a man face haunts my dreams.

Rereleasing FF3 on the NES. That was the perfect FF game...
AGAIN?! [http://www.gamespot.com/ds/rpg/finalfantasyiii/index.html]

OT: Remake FFVI on a current-gen console without traditional cutscenes (as in, make the whole thing play out in the main game engine, whether or not it's an interactive part)... and yeah, I guess the magic/stat system could use a little complication and balancing.

I would have to go with FFX's leveling system
FFVII's Massiveness
FFXII Quest System (Gotta agree with the hunts as well)
and FFXIII Graphics

I would also like to get a game of just blitzball when it was good before they changed it with FFX-2. Maybe have different Final Fantasy characters playable similar to what they have done in Dissidia or whatever its called.

I believe I have concocted the perfect Final Fantasy formula.

And here it is:

GAMEPLAY AND MECHANICS
- FF9's "every character is unique" system.
- FF10's Sphere Grid *or* FF12's License Board, but with a unique grid/board per character and perhaps a "public" grid/pool for some customization.
- FF10's "time bar" mechanic.

STORYTELLING
- FF6's ensemble cast and character depth.
- FF10's ability to make every character not named "Yuna" likeable.
- FF Tactics's tale of redemption and duty, which trounces FF4's any day of the week.
- FF12's style of narration and amazing localization.

VISUALS AND MUSIC
- FF6's appropriate and hauntingly beautiful character themes.
- FF12's bass-heavy and pulse-pounding boss themes.

STUFF TO LEAVE OUT
- FF7. Everything about FF7. Except possibly chainguns.
- FF13. Everything about FF13. No exceptions.
- FF11. Ditto.
- FF12. Everything except the aforementioned parts.
- FF8. Everything except the very underrated romance between Squall and a chick that doesn't deserve Squall.

Make NEW characters not just throw a dart at a board with details.
Throw dart, Female.
Throw dart at job... Soldier.
Throw dart again for weapon, Gun blade.
Throw dart again personality. Loner.

And we shall call her "Lightning."
