I've been trying to get my head around this for quite some time. Girls/Women, why do you wear it? I don't know a single guy who actually cares, and apparently it's proven that guys only notice it when there is too much on. I for one, don't care what-so-ever. I just don't understand why it is worn. The most common answer I have is:

1) It makes people feel more comfortable with themselves.

This one is NOT TRUE. I mean, if it's only noticed when there is too much and it looks awful, how does that make you feel better?

Please explain to me! I don't understand! I'm crying for help! I need this problem solved. It's been in my head for a loooooooong time.

Does it? Really?

I don't really see how putting on a false-face makes you better. That's putting it bluntly. A bit of eye-liner/mascara I can handle, but what puzzles me is when people use foundation and such. My friends called Make-up 'Face-lies', for obvious reasons. I just don't understand the concept.

Doesn't make-up actually destroy the skin in the long-term? And yeah, I hate it too and find it absolutely pointless.

It turns bow into wow.

With the look of most women, without make up the human race would go extinct without makeup.

Well you can't "prove" that guys don't notice because that's just ridiculous. If you use your eyes then you can.

Also of course it can make people feel more comfortable with themselves, some women no doubt look happier if they have "flawless" skin when they look in the mirror.

Then there is stylised make-up: Gothic, Glam etc. which can completely change the look of somebodies face.

I also fail to see how this is a "problem". It's no different from styling your hair, or wearing clothes you like.

The worst thing I find about makeup is that my sister goes crazy at me when I dont notice she put on her new mascara or whatever.

"IT'S NOT THE SAME AS BEFORE! THIS ONE IS BUBBLEGUM PINK AND THE OTHER ONE WAS CANDY PINK! GOD!"

Also, apparently, whenever she buys purple makeup, it's a dark shade of pink, and I have no opinion on the matter even though I've seen colours for all of my life.

It's just something that puzzles me. Sure, if flawless skin is what you want, go for it, but I don't know ANY guys who actually like people smothering their face with stuff. It's not an attack, I just want a logical answer instead of getting the old

"It makes me feel better." thing...

Because women are masochistic in their instinctual desire to attract a mate. They can't explain it because it is subconscious and it just feels right. Regardless it is the same reason they wear low cut tops, high heels despite damaging their feet, earings despite offering no benefits and plastic surgery.

Then when a man does pay attention they are stunned and offended because they are just doing what feels natural and shouldn't be objectified for it.

Instincts command the human brain no matter what our personality thinks.

THIS is the kind of answer I was after! Instead of people going ballistic at me, you've given me a decent explanation. I thank you.

I'm not a fan of make-up, but, there is a great difference between a girl with make-up and a girl without make-up. One of my friends clearly pointed this out to me in a demonstration with light make-up and I was surprised. She did look a tad more sensual with that light make-up as it was but... *shrug* If they want to do it... let them... I mean, it's their skin... It doesn't really matter if it makes any sense to us at all, really. It's not the only thing left that we don't understand. If make-up was the key to understanding women, there would be scientists on this case at this very moment.
