I'm glad my wife doesn't wear makeup. She doesn't wear it because she's allergic to 90% of it as it gives her skin rashes. I personally don't like it. It covers up what people really look like. It also tastes bad if you kiss someone who is wearing makeup on their cheek. Lipstick tasts bad too. I've dated a few girls who used makeup and I didn't like it.

If you want healthier looking skin, the solution is to get more sleep, eat healthier diet (including drinking more water) and wash your face more often. That's what my wife does and her face and skin looks great without wearing a bit of makeup.

the real reason.. make-up was invented BY men, FOR men.. yes men wore make up first, then women stole it around the 16th century.. I think most of my fare gender wear it as bragging rights for the identity theft...

In saying that though I wear very little if any, don't really need it.

Covering for ugly individuals doesn't come into it then? (not saying you're ugly!)

Men still wear make up too, it's just not so common anymore. Or we call them "goth" or "emo".

What'm I saying I still wear a bit here and there, mostly to cover marks that are not appropriate for a client visit.

It looks nice sometimes, like special occasions but my Girlfriend feels the same way about make up, so she never wears it.

I think it really depends on the concept of 'too much'.

-some-, not all, girls use WAY too much. I like makeup on the lighter side.

That said, I hate nailpolish. I dunno why. Clear is ok, but colors make me go yeeck

I recently came to the key realisation on this. The reason guys only notice when there's too much on is because if it's done right you don't notice it at all. You might say if you don't notice it, why bother? The answer being that you do notice that the girl in question looks better, you just don't realise it's because of make-up.

I do agree that too much is awful though, and almost always worse than too little.

There was this whore-ish girl at our girl that wore so much makeup, but we didn't notice until she came to school one day without any and her face was just revolting...

Some girls forget that the idea is to enhance your natural beauty, not fill the space with cosmetics.

I don't know about you, but some girls I've seen look terrible without eyeliner.

What I'm saying is that it always depends on the face how much you should have. Going overboard and having too little have their fine lines, some girls just miss them.

Edit: But I'm not going to hate on the all natural, I'm just saying some eyeliner for some girls make a big difference.

Y'all are neglecting another important factor:

Lighting.

A lot of modern-day flirty interaction happens in conditions very different from natural daylight. Make-up that looks weird and garish in full light can actually make your face look more "natural" in an environment like a restaurant or a dance club.

Doesn't this become a problem when you get the person into a car or home? Could just be my view on what to do at a restaurant or dance club skewing my thought process, but shouldn't makeup (much like a guys choice of clothing etc.) be good at all times?

You've walked in on that episode of Seinfeld with the woman that only looks good in the diner.

Okay. So women are vain and weak-minded. I could have told you that. The two go hand in hand.
/sigh

No... Pretty much all concept of normality are held up through peer pressure. I assume you're a guy - so would you wear a dress? No? Why not? Because girls wear it, and you've been told so a million times.

Same goes for make up.
Alot of that pressure comes from magazines that look down on women without makeup. The readers of these magazines are women so the problem is an endless cycles of; "how can she walk out like that, why is everyone judging me?"

I don't wear a dress because they're "for girls," I simply would not be physically comfortable with it. I never wear shorts, either. I wear long pants of various kinds year round, along with whatever upper body attire is necessary based on weather conditions and formality or personal mood. Because of personal taste, I always wear dark colors in any setting where dress is left up to me.

There is nothing about the way I dress that has anything to do with sexuality. It never should for anybody. If some guy wants to wear a dress, what the fuck do I care? Gender roles are stupid anyway. It's drummed into your head from birth; boys play with toy soldiers and girls play with dolls. Blue is for boys, pink is for girls. Men should have short hair, women should have long hair. Many people align into a gender role because they honestly believe that these things make a difference, and it's just offensive to me.

Turn on the Lifetime Network (a channel with female-oriented programming and made-for-TV movies) and watch it for an hour or so. In that time frame, you will see several clothing store ads, cosmetics ads, and probably a few housekeeping products and cleaning agents as well. Talk about counter-productive. Is this channel a feminist's wet dream or worst nightmare?

I think the idea is that, if you do it right, you won't look bad in hard light. Just, well, strongly made-up.

I've been trying to get my head around this for quite some time. Girls/Women, why do you wear it? I don't know a single guy who actually cares, and apparently it's proven that guys only notice it when there is too much on. I for one, don't care what-so-ever. I just don't understand why it is worn. The most common answer I have is:

1) It makes people feel more comfortable with themselves.

This one is NOT TRUE. I mean, if it's only noticed when there is too much and it looks awful, how does that make you feel better?

Please explain to me! I don't understand! I'm crying for help! I need this problem solved. It's been in my head for a loooooooong time.
Well you can't "prove" that guys don't notice because that's just ridiculous. If you use your eyes then you can.

Also of course it can make people feel more comfortable with themselves, some women no doubt look happier if they have "flawless" skin when they look in the mirror.

Then there is stylised make-up: Gothic, Glam etc. which can completely change the look of somebodies face.

I also fail to see how this is a "problem". It's no different from styling your hair, or wearing clothes you like.
It's just something that puzzles me. Sure, if flawless skin is what you want, go for it, but I don't know ANY guys who actually like people smothering their face with stuff. It's not an attack, I just want a logical answer instead of getting the old

"It makes me feel better." thing...
not all girls are trying to attract guys, some are trying to attract girls. and im sure some just dont care if they attract any one at all.

i knew this one girl who would paint a whole painting on her face with makeup. it was butifull, every day before school.

Well some see it as an art.. which I can see... but really in the end it's pointless... Apart from a little eyeliner and mascara when I'm going out i don't use the crap.

What I hate is when women in their 40's who are married wear so much makeup they look like they're trying to be 15 years old again. The result is a fake, disgusting false front that looks horrible. Meanwhile they have a husband and it's not like they're trying to find a guy at that age so what's the point? Couple that with size extra small clothing from Abercrombie and Fitch and these women are a disaster. Can't you just be fine with your age? Stop trying to be something/someone you're not.

/rant on women who want to be 12 again
