I have to agree there, I mean, my ex-girlfriend was probably the nicest person I've ever known and that's why we stayed together for so long (we only split up because it ended up as a long distance relationship). I was interested first because of looks, then personality drew me in more than anything. That said, looking at your and Geek@Heart's messages, above, I just feel the need to yell at you both, don't keep putting yourselves down! Believe in yourselves, I know that sounds really cliched but it's true, both of you, believe that you're beautiful and you'll find that you actually are, with makeup or without :)
You're so sweet :3 I can take you home in a box?
Haha, I always piss about with my mates and call myself sexy in self-parody.
Take yesterday for example when my friend Laura and I danced in the rain and I asked passers by if they wanted to join the sexy dancing lesbians.
Anyway...

Why do girls wear perfume and make-up?

Because they're ugly and smell bad.
Throw rocks at them :D

@geek : Damn :D p.s masacara and lippie can hide anything if you buy alot of really big ones & hide behind them :D
You two are never going to get girlfriends with that attitude. Treat girls with respect for Gods sake.

There are many reasons why women wear makeup, here are some:

1. Confidence issues...

2. A rite of passage...

3. Flirting/attention...

4. Enjoyment...

So it's a mistake to assume that a girl with lots of makeup just wants to pick up guys or thinks she's ugly and is hiding behind it or whatever. Sure, that MAY be the reason for it, but there are also other reasons why people do it.
This. Plus from an evolutionary viewpoint (just pure A Level psychology here, so please excuse the sweeping generalisation) men tend to be attracted to curvier, younger looking women because these attributes are indicators that they would be suitable candidates to look after babies. Mascara captures the wide eyes of youth, whereas pink blusher and red lipstick create a flushed face which indicates that a woman is, um, 'ready'. Makeup used to be worn exclusively by ladies of the night for this very reason, as it was highly inappropriate for a lady of standards to allude to such things. But nowadays that tends not to be the main reason women wear makeup. Again, see post quoted above.

Personally I wear it only occasionally, I think I look prettier with a small amount of mascara and eyeliner on, regardless of what the guy next to me thinks.

(Hi by the way :D )

Sounds pretty fun :)(J/K)

About the box, if you can find one big enough then I don't see why not :D You'll just need to pay for P&P from Yorkshire, Parcelforce do a pretty good deal... (God, I sound like bloody Lee Evans...).

You sir are going to get such a rant from me if you don't stop this. Why on Earth should I believe in myself, I've always messed things up in the past, I'm stuck in a tiny useless narrow-minded town with no friends and the crumbiest job possible. I don't even have the necessary qualifications to get me out of here without studying with 16 year olds again, which sucked enough when I was that age myself.

As for beautiful, hun, that ain't me. No chance, no way. I'm more like a guy, ffs. (Proved today when I had to buy guys walking shoes because of my weird shaped feet ¬_¬). I have a scruffy crop of ginger hair, I have a double chin cos I'm seriously overweight and chubby bright red cheeks. How on Earth is that in any way beautiful?

Okay, you got the rant anyway. But I needed to make the point.

I've been trying to get my head around this for quite some time. Girls/Women, why do you wear it? I don't know a single guy who actually cares, and apparently it's proven that guys only notice it when there is too much on. I for one, don't care what-so-ever. I just don't understand why it is worn. The most common answer I have is:

1) It makes people feel more comfortable with themselves.

This one is NOT TRUE. I mean, if it's only noticed when there is too much and it looks awful, how does that make you feel better?

Please explain to me! I don't understand! I'm crying for help! I need this problem solved. It's been in my head for a loooooooong time.
I've wondered the exact same thing since I could process coherent thought. I mean, I think my girlfriend looks beautiful without makeup; with it (at the risk of sounding lame) she looks like she's lost that aura of 'natural beauty' that people have. I dunno, though. Makeup used to be a sign of upper-class values, so maybe that's why most people use it now? Elevate themselves?

QFT.

Sometimes it can be overdone, but very rarely, women usually know how much they should use and what is too much.

There is nothing wrong with trying to make yourself look better. Do you guys brush your hair in the morning? Same thing. You're doing it to make yourself look better. If nobody cared about their appearance all women would look like dogs and all men would look like neanderthols, and yes, I have no idea how to spell that word. >_>

If you think women look better without it, fair enough, but you are in the minority.

Not to say that women can't look beautiful without makeup, makeup just makes them look better.

Just think Barack. Or Shamu at Sea World. Believe...

I know I'm getting on your nerves with this, but self esteem is a wonderful thing :) Also, Shamu kicks ass...

Yeah, the Shamu thing was when I was in Florida last year, the show was called Believe, in case you didn't get the reference.

I wear make up because I look bad without it. That's pretty much it. Don't get me wrong, I don't wear make up round the house and I don't wear it if I'm just going to the supermarket with my mum or something, but I do wear it pretty much everyday. Here are some pics of the transformation:

Don't judge my hair. It rained on me earlier D=

And this is a typical, average girl make over, unlike those blatantly professional make overs shown earlier

If you don't notice the makeup, your doing it right. People are manipulatable, and because of that, Makeup works. People are shallow, but don't want to be. Don't deny it, don't abandon reason embraceing it, just accept it. So if a girl chooses to use a little makeup now and again, go for it. No different then trying to pick out a nice shirt, or anything else that focuses on how people see you. Also, makeup is a whole lot easier then working out at the gym to get that athletic look: Sure, it has health benefits, but plenty of guys do it just to impress girls. Just remember to not go overboard, and remember that in the human mating game, while makeup might make you more attractive to strangers, being comfortable with yourself, and not focuses on makeup, is far, far sexier to an actual loving partner.

I know self esteem is a wonderful thing, it's just that I don't have any, and for a very good reason. And no amount of motivatinal speeches is going to hypnotise me into believing something that honestly ain't true.

The same reason men flash cash. it all goes back to women trying to appear fertile and men trying to look like great providers in the social mating game humans play. It's fun to watch, though.

Easiest thing to explain in the world. In Western culture, the value of a woman is based on her youth and good looks. A man's is based on his physical prowess and financial status.

While this goes in part back to basic biology -- men want the most fertile women, and women want the strongest men so that together they have the best chance of creating viable offspring -- much of it is ingrained into culture, as well. Men being judged by their wallets, for example, is a remnant of days when the idea of a woman earning her own wage was simply ridiculous.

Even more simply put, though, if you don't wear makeup you are, more often than not, considered to be unfeminine.

Plenty of women are attractive without makeup of course, but I've yet to see a woman who isn't at least somewhat prettier with properly applied makeup on. Does that mean they should feel like they have to wear it? Of course not. It just comes down to their own personality. I wear makeup perhaps once or twice a year, while my friend Melissa literally won't allow a man to see her without makeup -- even if it's first thing in the morning.

I like it and wear it because...I like it. The same reason I wear anything more than just what I need to wear. Also just because you dont notice it outright, make-up is not actually intended to be noticed on its own. Its supposed to enhance appearance.

Hopefully this doesn't cross over into the realm of internet weirdo, but you are genuinely quite attractive in both pictures. I can see the advantage of makeup, but you don't look bad without it.

I personally don't know how they don't notice they have liberally applied it to themselves. They either look completely dry or shiny and plastic.

Don't worry about it, you don't come across weird XD I took the obvious risk when I posted pictures.

But yeah, I think for most girls it's not that they look bad without make up, it's just that they realise that they can look better with it. Often it can seem like a competition between females I think, and make up is just one way to up your game.

You know, some guys do care, and makeup is useful if you're gonna be on TV, go watch the Kennedy-Nixon debates, then just listen to them,. If you heard them on radio, then Nixon won, but if you saw the difference that makeup (and television experience) made then you'd think that Kennedy won

I use this one because I look silly and not all make-up clad girls have to pout.
