I did in Oblivion. I got really bored with the game, so I made a new character, an orc female, with fluorescent green skin, pink hair, a triangular face and a nose half again as long as the entire thing. I played through a decent portion of the game by just running in and beating everyone to death with her bare hands.

Nope. That's an immersion-nuker right there. I'm more in it for the immersion than for the lulz.
How does that break immersion? There are ugly NPCs in games all the time. Hell there are ugly people in real life all the time.

OT: No way! If given the choice i'll make a female characters, and i'll try to make her attrative to me. Which then makes me sad when there isn't a weight slider, because i like my women fat. I was happy with Dragons dogma's character creation because she looked exactly like my RL girlfriend ( who is fat). It was annoyed how my female shepard had to be thin, she was still pretty hot though.

^totally something you see every day.

Every time I see a hideous character made by flinging the sliders to extremes, I instantly think "Well, that's just botched up character creation." That's the definition of immersion-breaking.

What if your character's story is that they are so hideously deformed nobody likes them?

Good luck getting the game to seamlessly cooperate with that! "You've gone and helped me but I don't like you anyways" isn't a common RPG standard.

I don't tend to write my own stories into an RPG anyways. I play more reactively.

I find it deeply satisfying, and I personally think Demons Souls wins best character creator because it's not only A. Terrible but B. will provide you an endless plethora of the most NSFW faces in RPG history.

I always found it interesting that in the SWTOR MMOs character creation, the male weight slider went from skinny to morbidly obese, whereas the female weight slider goes from skinny to slightly plump.

That said I usually try to make aesthetically pleasing models for my characters, except for 1 playthrough as a butt-ugly Skyrim Orc, although roleplaying a visually repulsive outcast was actually heaps of fun in that game.

Attractiveness or lack of it isn't really a trait I focus on... though I got a kick out of Loadout having all three of its characters (including Helga) butt ugly.

Though disappointed at how childishly some have reacted to Helgas designs, and some of the clothing options for her.

I'm... not too sure, exactly... I usually make characters that either "look" like me or "look" like me, but with boobs...

So, I guess I don't do it on purpose sometimes? (Then again, it's not like I show them off to friends or anything...)
