If I find myself thinking that Splinter Cell: Conviction is too easy (which happens often) I'll set certain parameters for myself. Stuff like avoid detection even on a Hunter map using only hand to hand kills.

I've been doing it for years. I even came up with a "Final Inflitration" mode for Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Basically, you play on Infiltration (no alarms or you fail), you can't use any gadgets, you can't use any weapons and you must play on the hardest difficulty. It's REALLY hard and I love it.

So, Escapists, have YOU ever done something like this on a game without a difficulty setting?
Played all of oblivion with out weapons.(like 80% of teh time) I also plan to do this in skyrim.
my magic was over powered but i could only use like 1 spell at a time since my mana was crap.
In fighting games I like to try not to spam. Usually makes for better looking fights too.
In FPS's I don't mean to do this but I'll end up using the weakest weapon for some reason. Usually a pistol.
In most RPG's I play a jack of all trades build usually. Lets me experience more of what the game has to offer, but usually makes it harder for me as opposed to those who specialze and can 2 hit everything.*cough*Demon's Souls*cough*

Rainbow Six Vegas (and 2). Always on Realistic. Light armour (not the bulky Hurt Locker-looking shit that sustains 5 or 6 shots) and when I get bored, whip out the pistol. Good fun.

I'll often do stuff that makes the game harder, but it's rarely just to make it harder. It's because I'm an intolerable roleplayer.

So if I'm boarding as Kaori in SSX, I won't push people. She wouldn't do that! In Deus Ex, I refused to shoot police. (They're just doing their job! I'm the criminal!) Although MJ6 agents were fair game. In Dragon Age and other RPGs, I'll often refuse to wear shabby armour because it's 'gross'. Although it would depend on the character.

Stuff like that. It makes it harder, but it's not to make it harder.

Although in Minecraft I ALWAYS play PermaDeath. And I've done some PermaDeath runs on Far Cry 2. Does that count?

sure, i've done it plenty of times. challenge playthroughs are very good ways to boost the replay value of a game you like, or make it more enjoyable.

Yeah, I never got any armour upgrades in AssCreedBro except the one that you are forced to get at the beginning.

Also, pretty much any metroid game. Try doing a low percent run. Try doing a 21% run on metroid prime. You will die. ALOT.
