Alright sex ed's over kids.
Yes dad...shouldn't you be getting your pension by now? ;)
Sorry, I'm a nurse (or will be in 6 months when I graduate). I can't help myself sometimes :p

Wow, there is a lot of misinformation in this thread. Didn't you guys pay attention in sex ed?

I think they might have taken sex ed away in favor of the abstinence only policy.

My younger brother just finished his first year of high school. They did take it away, the daft bastards.
That's a great policy, that. Is that in the US? I think we still have it out here in Aus, but I'm not sure. We tend to follow blindly where the US leads though....
Yeah it's in the U.S. The policy has changed in a few states, but even in the good places Sex Ed. is still very biased against the act. It was way worse about 10 years ago, that time in which the Australian government seems to live in. Maybe that's just Micheal Atkinson, though.

Ah, I thought so, but I wasn't sure. *Sigh* it's so frustrating. If you really want kids to be safe then they need to be educated, whether it happens at home or at school it needs to happen somewhere. If they really feel the need to push abstinence they could follow the lesson up with something like, "but the only way to be 100% sure is to not do anything at all" or something, but at least give them basics.

This sounds awesome and I have heard of this before... yet this source material made me doubt the authenticity.
Why? The top stories in health today:
1. The girl who must eat every 15 minutes to stay alive
2. Does a lover really have first claim on breasts?
3. Reusable shopping bags 'are a threat to public health'

I cringed.

That said, if this 'male pill' goes on the market I'll gladly take it (assuming reasonable cost). Depending trust/relationship situation you can always ALSO use condoms ;)

This doesn't deal with the prevalence of casual sex, and in fact practically encourages it.
(Sex with no consequences? (except STDs) What are you going to say?)

Men don't need dead sperm, they need very alive sperm and to fully accept the consequences of their shitty mistakes.
I don't understand. If someone takes the pill, they are being responsible (at least for the 'having children' part of the equation)-why are you telling them to 'accept the consequences of their shitty mistakes' then?
Okay, I didn't really explain it that well.
A pill that takes away the consequences, so you can go sleeping around all you want, none of them will get pregnant.
So if over time the body builds up a resistance to the pill and the sperm don't die, all of a sudden all the casual sex comes back to haunt you.
Or if you forgot your tri-monthly pill.

We don't need anything else encouraging this sort of behaviour, we need people to wear condoms or deal with the consequences of not doing so.

(Just as an aside, I bet the feminists will find some way of objecting to this. I'm not sure how yet but I'm sure they can manage it)
It takes repeated use of any type of medication before the body adjusts and we are talking alot of repeated use and even then there are other methods i.e. the snip some people just dont like condoms.

There has to be some sort of disadvantage to it. You don't just 'deactivate' part of your body without any side-effects.
Really? The appendix can be removed as well as the Gallbladder. They do squat.
Squat? Really?

Your appendix is an important part of your body when you're a child, as it acts as a "testing ground" for your immune system.

And my mother had her gall bladder taken out, and now she can't eat high fat foods. It must do something, then.

Does it prevent STDs? No? Then condoms will suffice.
Sums up my thoughts nicely.

Condoms have never taken away anything from my experiences, so I personally don't have a problem covering my tool (then again, I'm gay, so maybe it's different when the guy's with a girl?).

Exactly. Don't be a fool, wrap your tool.
I don't think it's for when your going out having random sex with strangers... But for those of us who enjoy deeper and more trusting relationships, that don't want any unforeseen sprogs.

Odd, since doctors agree they're as useless as a armless, legless, toothless, voice boxless, eyeless zombie.
Not usless you have your definitions wrong "unecessary" the gall bladder stores bile used in digesting food and divulges it out as necessary, it helps the process along but the process works prefectly fine without it. Nice to have but no big loss.

Or you could just either use a condom like a fucking smart person (Unlike some people, a few Escapists too), get the snip though I dont think you'll want that at a young age, or dont don't have sex.

Seriously, is it really that hard for guys to keep it in their pants these days?

I put one in my wallet everytime I go out. Saved my neck twice, other time I didn't have one so I said "nope" to her.

There really is no excuse for accidental pregancies anymore, with the exception of dangerous volumes of alcohol.
The options that don't render your testicles useless are not 100% effective, meaning that whilst accidental pregnancies are(arguably)unlikely, they are also an inevitability.

My friend has a baby despite condoms, with a very short term girlfriend who now dislikes him very much. Needless to say his circumstances are undesirable, and he isn't getting much enjoyment out of his existence.

Get snipped, or be prepared to live with some uncertainty.
I find it quite amusing that I was told this by the sexual harrasment panda. And my bad, my post was a bit generalizing.
I'm nothing if not a fictional educational tool.

He's come to teach you what's right and wrong...Sexual Harassment...Panda...

OT: I failed to comment on the article. I would absolutely use it over condoms, should I find myself in a commited relationship whilst still not having changed my mind about babies.

Well done Israeli scientists, I'd like to buy you a drink.

Really, with all STDs around today, pregnancy would probably be my last concern, especially since there are morning after pills, abortions and other stuff like that.

Plus the "no side effects" part sounds way too good to be true, especially considering that they have only tested it on mice. Humans are far more complex then mice, there's much more room for things to go wrong somewhere.

Somefemale birth control pills cause the woman to pass excess hormones through the excretory system. Water treatment plants can't filter these hormones out. The excess hormones can cause sexual underdevelopment or breast growth in men. As long as this doesn't do ill to our water supplies like the female version does that I'm totally for it.

For a situation involving two committed individuals it's a godsend. For singles and swingers I'd say condoms would still be necessary to prevent risk of infection.

Final thoughts: Awesome work science! Hope the human tests go well too.

Wouldn't use it. I'm also against the female variant of it. Just put on that raincoat (don't know if it is only a Dutch metaphore) and go for it. These chemical things and what not that aren't really necessary in the body? I am not fond of them.
No, we have the Raincoat Metaphor in the states.

I think it's good. Yes, you will have assholes that will use it to trick women to not using a condom. Those pricks will always think of something. Hell, I could be on it I'll still use the condom because there is more to worry about then pregnancy. But, as long as there are no long term effects like birth defects I see no issue.

I actually approve a great deal since I believe there needs to be a global birth control initiative to stop the human race from going up a billion every decade. And this just might be a step to make it possible with out mass mutilation, force sexism, or grave infringement on human rights. But, people who don't agree with my on that subject might see this as an evil thing now... oh well. What's one persons savior is another one's anti-christ.

The moment I saw this, my first thought was "The Combine are in Israel." Am I alone in this?

It's interesting, I suppose, but between STDs and the whole "this could seriously F you up" thing... I shall stay away.
