I hope the day never comes when people can plug someone else's text into a program like this, find out their gender, and then discriminate against them based on that.

However, the concept of such a program is amusing.

Link doesn't work for me for some reason :\

Shame, seems a lot of fun and would like to know the scientific rationale if there is one, behind this program.

I'm sorry, but I don't see how it can actually be of use. The first time it's wrong, it's essentially wasted. And yes, that's even accounting for sexual orientation.

Meh, I personally can normally tell if handwriting was written by a male or female anyways. Obviously there are exceptions, but there tend to be several clear distinctions.

Not only is this mostly inaccurate.

It's also not even remotely new.

I thought scientists said that finding out what someone was like and their gender from a persons writing was a load of boloney

This sounds like a cousin to that "science" that claims to be able to determine your gender, how honest you are, if you are depressed, etc. by your handwriting (I can't recall it's name).

Also, the link isn't working.

I tried the first one posted by Stasisesque, and fed in the beginning of "California Love". It said I was male, but it was way to small a margin between male or female. (it said the female score was 51 and that the male score was 55).

I wrote, "Hey what's up?" and only got 59.1% male, and I'm 100% male....further testing is needed
The probability of the person typing being male is 59.1%. The probability of the person being female is 40.9% :p
Ah I see, so it's Probability that's talking.....Damn you Statistics!!!

Analyse writing to see the gender! Correct 50% of the time!*

*Only applies to binary gender situations.

I tried it with various bits of my own writing from forums posts, old LJ posts short stories etc... most of the time I came up as 90%+ "neutral". What the hell use is that?

I tried why an article, which they identified as male, and with a fiction story it identified me as female. With both the one mentioned in the first post and Stasisesque's first link.

i wrote "my dick is 30 meters long" into the first link.
after 2 minutes of analyzing (really?) it told me it's 60% sure i'm male.

so yeah, they don't work.

I typed in a bunch of formal sounding stuff but it was taking too long to analyze so I said "screw it" and closed it. Judging by what has been posted, it looks like the analyzer doesn't work.
