Yeah, because having ever-so-slightly homo-erotic tension in the movie is just too wrong.

God damn I hate this attitude.

On the flipside, if they can make a strong female character that influences the ark of superman's character, I'll praise them for it. If they don't, I will prep my fangs.

Changing an established character's race isn't always for the worse in people's minds. See Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

I think they should change the Invisible Woman to a black actress too, though, for consistency's sake.
first off, Samuel L Jackson is Samuel L Jackson. He gets a pass by a lot of people no matter what he does.

Second, there was still backlash and outrage. This was partially mitigated by point 1, that Samuel L Jackson is Samuel L Jackson.

Third, this sill kind of fit comic continuity, as the Ultimate version of Fury was already a black guy who sorta looked like Samuel L Jackson.

But mostly points 1 and 2. Really, Samuel L Jackson is a cult actor who somehow spun out into a novelty act and is an exception in and of himself.

And yes, biological siblings probably should share an ethnicity.

It's not like Lana Lang is some terribly obscure character, she was in Smallville, among other things.

I'm not a fan of Superman, and I know about her and the love-triangle.
But maybe they're pissing all over canon for no other reason than that they were too lazy read up on Superman on Wikipedia for five minutes.
You'd be surprised how common it is in Hollywood these days for the writers to produce something that is so vastly different from the source material that it seems like they did nothing but read the Wiki entry on it.

Or need I remind you of The Last Airbender, which destroys canon material throughout its run time at an intellectually-offensive level?

That was the first movie that I almost walked out of the movie theater on. >_>
I'm not familiar with that movie, but wasn't the thing that made that movie suck that they tried to gram a whole season into a movie? Wouldn't it have worked better if they did cut out a lot, taking the basic idea and making a movie out of it?

Changes are always necessary to some extent in adaptation, but my issue with this change is that it's pointless.
Want more boobs? A love triangle? A platonic female friend for Superman? Use Lana.

Homoerotic tension? Really? No seriously, really?

Jimmy Olsen is so far out of Superman's league they're not even from the same solar system. Like twice, or some shit. :p

If anything, Superman is more of a father figure to Jimmy than anything else. A terrible, terrible father figure.

They couldn't get Seth Green? Payment for that Robot Chicken DC special?

"Ok Seth, you can do your special but in return, you have to play Jimmy Olsen in Man of Steel." I can actually picture him doing it.

OT: Don't really care if she's a lady now, as long as the film's good.
Oh my god, I am officially pissed they're casting a woman. Because it means they aren't casting Seth Green.

Can they dress him in drag?

Wow, this certainly would be interesting if we hadn't known about this a year ago!

Seriously, I thought this was as known as Ranger Mode being DLC in Last Light.

OK My two cents on this. My concern with this is not that they are changing Olson's gender but that it might be a sign that they are changing Olson's core character. The character has always been a Hyper enthusiastic slightly socially awkward Fanboy and I just have a hard time seeing Rebecca Buller playing a Hyper enthusiastic slightly socially awkward Fangirl. From what I can see they're turning Olson In to Louis Lane Lite and I just find that disappointing.

He is known for comedy movies so yes, he can dress in drag. It'll get all Some like it hot in the DC universe.

I gotta say...Usually I'm all for headlines that accurately describes whats going on in the article. I hate click-hunting headlines. This is also a VERY minor spoiler, but I wish there was some middle ground. I usually dont like to know anything about movies I'm excited about until I see them, and I'd much rather have the "huh, a lady Olsen" moment in the cinema than on a website.

But I cant just abandon all news of the world I enjoy all the way till Superman is in theaters either... :\

OT: Feeling kind of meh about this. This probably wont be what makes or breaks the movie anyway.

...What exactly does this have to do with the plot? Aside from his spinoff comic giving us Darkseid, what has he done that's important plot wise in ANY of Superman's outings?
Well, there was that time he married the gorilla.
