Cue idiot trolls insulting France for no reason. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.198320-Man-plots-the-murder-of-in-game-rival-for-6-months-O-o#6451204]
That is messed up. Was he playing on a perma-death server..? Does that even exist? I mean, usually you wait for the round to end, respawn, and try to get revenge. If you can't, your not as good. Don't go out and knife the guy IRL for revenge! Crazy.
Well....ah....First i would like to establish that was a bad thing to do, completely addicted he is. Second of all, that was some badass hunting skills he has. as well as a sense of Irony.
A Counter-Strike player in France has spent six months plotting a revenge attack against a man who beat him in an in-game knife fight. His eventual revenge was not in-game.
20 year-old Julien Barreaux, from Cambrai, had his Counter-Strike character "knifed" in a game late last year against another man, known only as "Mikhael". Enraged at this blight against his talents, Barreaux spent six months tracking him down in the real world.
When he eventually found the victim, Barreaux knocked on the guy's front door, then "plunged a kitchen knife into his chest" when Mikhael opened it to greet him. He missed his heart by an inch.
A local police officer told the courts "Barreaux was arrested within the hour and told us he had wanted to see his rival wiped out for killing off his character."
The judge, who locked him up for two years on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm, says of Barreaux, "You are a menace to society. I am frankly terrified of the disproportionate reaction you could have if someone looked at you the wrong way in the street."
It's amazing what people are capable of but this is just ridiculous.
So what do my fellow escapists think about this nutcase and about how long the sentence is.
If your a man: What? Be a man and take them on.
If your a women: I'll protect you.
LOL
That guy has a mental history, don't read to much into it. The problem is when we leave them be because we think they are sane enough to take their medication. This make me think to my step-brother who have a similar mental problem. He counteract the effect of the sedative drug to smooth him up a bit with Red bull. He is in his mid-thirty, so he knows better. Surely, if they don't force to take pill, anything can turn into a matter of death to them. They should force them, or intern them.

Bodily harm, attempted murder and assault don't get as long in the slammer as murder or fraud.
My guess is that he would have gotten 10-15 years.. but they gave him two because they may think he mentally insane. He may only bein jail for two years, but he'll probably have to go to a mental hospital for another 5-7 years.
I'm sorry, but Europe has a werid legal system (probably trying to make-up fo centuries of tortue and arbitrary justice lol)

I must explain my mindset before my reply. I'm an American. In the US we have a law (I believe it is also upheld in other parts of the world but I'm not certain) in which a hacker or other person who has perpetrated computer or electronic-related crimes can have their ability to own a computer or have online access restricted or even revoked.
Bearing that in mind, I think that this, Julien should have the same judgment leveled against him. Also, two years for premeditated assault with intent to kill is a travesty. I'm curious why it was only a two year sentence.
He is only getting locked up for two years? Kinda seems like he should get twenty years for what he did. Apparently he did not think about the consequences of his actions because now he is locked up.
It is gamers like him that give the rest of us gamers a bad name. Thankfully, Jack Thompson is disbarred of or I could see him trying to preach something about this.
