O_O

Words fail to describe the horror of the idea of being trapped like that for 23 years.

Oh wow, this is exactly like the video for One by Metallica...

Also, 23! The amount of stuff that's happened in the last 23 years, he must've been bored out of his mind.

Wonder how much ammunition this is going to give the anti-euthanasia crowd wonderful ¬_¬
None?
I like "none."

Seriously, there is no way they can twist this to their benefit.
"He was conscious that whole time!"
Yes, and he was in his own personal fucking Hell.

Death is probably preferable.
While I personally, agree, don't be so sure this won't help them. They have a hard enough time pulling the plug when it's zero brain activity and legally braindead, imagine it now that there is a slight possibility that their loved one was misdiagnosed.

"And I Must Scream", anyone? It's right there on the title. I would have definitely gone insane if it was me. Then again, actually being able to wake up after all that time might nullify it all.

"I have no mouth and I must scream" is the full title but yeah, this was the first thing that came to mind when I read this article.

This seriously reminds me of Shale from Dragon Age.
Man I've been playing that game too much lately...

Anyway, that sucks, and he had no choice but to endure it.

Of course, I'm referencing the trope named after the story XD
First I was thinking "Fate Worse than Death," but instantly changed my mind after I opened the link.

Holy! I can't begin to imagine the fear he went through and for 23 years. That is absolutely astonishing.

So he wasn't in a coma, but he couldn't talk, move, blink, cry or in any possible way let people know he was conscious? I'd say there's barely a difference. Yet it does seem rather horrible to me to be able to consciously think while doing nothing else - it'd be like having a brain without a body.

Damn here I was hoping if I went into a coma I'd be transported back to a quaint vision of 70's Manchester.
Or New York for Americans.

At least it would give you time to think about things, lots and lots of time.
